First he has a son who has an inter poster in his bathroom. Now he wants to coach inter. Some body pinch me, please. It's got to be a dream. A very weird one.

Got to be!

Sadly, Billy's first adventure in coaching didn't last long. He's been sacked as coach of Mantova. The club are in midtable and have lost 5 of the last 10 games, won 1 and drawn 4.

Now he should return to MilAN i think.

Returning to Milan? Or perhaps studying some more. He would do good to be assistant to some other coach. Maybe Prandelli or Lippi for the NT.

Lippi actually has one of the other graduates from Billy's coaching course as an assisstant: Ciro Ferrara.

I think Billy is success driven, considering the coaches that he played under ... Its just his first stint at a club, probably take on another Serie B job .. Im curious to see how things will turn out for him

What Jack said.
You little imp. At least put an EDIT tag in front.
Mantova have had a win the week after Costacurta's departure and 3 defeats after that, 3 of the games were with mid table teams and one with top-placed Bari.
Was Billy sacked, cause I heard he walked away? Or did both parts decide on this?

I'm not sure, dst. From what I recall of the articles, it was a mutual consent thing.

Question: I was watching a Milan-Roma classic from season 03/04 and saw that Costacurta had the number "19". I always supposed Billy had his "5" for all seasons. But somehow my memory turned out wrong. But is there any logical explanation?

So who had the #5 that season?

Ok, just made a quick check. Apperantly it was given to Redondo during that season and the one before it
Strange
Fillipo Simone
Oct 29 2011, 09:18 PM
Yep, Redondo. It really is strange...I mean, even big names like Beckham, Dinho or Kaka accept that if their number is taken, they should move on. And it is also a strange gesture to take someone a shirt number, especially someone like Billy.

Not nearly as strange, if Costacurta himself gave it to him.

I mean if I were playing with a number 9 shirt in Milan, and we signed Ronaldo, I'd gladly have given him my shirt for the time he was here, if I thought he was a bigger player than me. It won't do anything for Ronaldo, it'll just make me look good. Of course, if it's a regular player then that's okay.
I mean, for example, Pato could have offered Sheva the number 7 shirt for the year or so he was here. And people would have remembered his gesture for ages. Of course, he didn't, and no harm done.

But it's these small things that make a man. Anyone can be a hero on the biggest stages, what you are on the smaller ones is the one that make you.
So yeah, the point of my philosophical lecture was that maybe Billy gave it to him as an act of friendliness.

Yes, well I was thinking the same thing.

I too must admit I did not know too much about the guy apart from the name Redondo, had to look him up to recall the name. For a guy who played 16 matches in his 4 seasons in Milan, well let's just say the shirt thing is quite odd. We may yet solve this mystery, who knows?!

Hmh, well, don't get me wrong, Redondo was a brilliant player. He was a creative DM much like Pirlo - and the only reason he played so little is because of his nasty injuries which ended his career. But remember the goal he scored for Real vs. Valencia in the CL final - that was class. He was a big loss for us.

Oct 29 2011, 10:04 PM
Ha, okay. I kinda knew the name, but am afraid haven't seen too much of the guy.

And besides, you know me and players from Argentina. Even the averages one from there are usually pricks. Remember Gabriel Heinze? And how he slapped the cameraman in the last world cup. I wanted to knuckle-punch his head off right from my TV.
I mean, the guy is recording and bringing your stupid face to the world, and he accidently touched you while you are celebrating a goal, and you go and hit the man? There are few things I consider more pathetic that I've seen.
