Whatever he does, I hope one day not in a very distant future, he will return to Milan and bring with him a new era. A glorious reign full of trophies and new memories for many years.

He is certainly capable of it.

Grande Billy.

Just curious, if Pisa did well last season, why are they looking for a new coach? The last one took a bigger job?

they currently have a coach but the club has changed owners and he has said he wants Billy as coach so technically there isn't a vacancy yet

Pisa has officially changed owners as of today. There's speculation on tuttomercatoweb that the coaching job is Billy's but no confirmation on Pisa's (or Milan's) website just yet.

No Coaching For House-Husband Costacurta
Former Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta has revealed he turned down the opportunity to coach Serie B side Pisa in order to stay at home with his son while his wife works...

Nicknamed Billy, Costacurta was Carlo Ancelotti's assistant coach at Milan last season, having ended a glittering 20-year playing career with the club at the end of the previous campaign.

Having recently gained the credentials to be a full-time coach, he was offered the job with Tuscan outfit Pisa, only to turn it down for an unexpected reason.

His wife, Martina Colombari, is touring with a theatrical production for six months starting this autumn and the former stopper plans to stay at home with their four-year-old son.

“I am sorry, because Pisa would be the ideal city and club to begin my adventure as a coach. I was really looking for a side like Pisa to start out with,” he said.

“My wife and my son come first right now, above anything else. I will not coach any side this season, as I will instead study so that I can improve further.

“I don’t want our son Achille to grow up with a nanny. I want to be there for him."

New Pisa patron Luca Pomponi took charge of the club on Friday and immediately made a beeline for Costacurta.

Luca Pomponi, who took charge of the club on Friday, immediately made his interest in Costacurta known, who has expressed his admiration for the chief, who will aim to go one better than the promotion play-offs elimination that faced the club last season.

“I liked Pomponi straight away, as he was enthusiastic and had clear ideas," continued Costacurta. "I don’t know if this will be enough to succeed at Pisa, but he wanted to build on the progress made by the last owners who went so close to Serie A.”

I Would Never Have Signed Sheva - Costacurta

Former Milan and Italy defender Alessandro Costacurta believes Milan should not have signed Andriy Shevchenko from Chelsea as he thinks it will stop Alexandre Pato and Marco Borriello from fulfilling their full potential at San Siro.

Sheva returned back to the scene where he enjoyed most of his successful playing career this week after a turbulent passage from Chelsea.

Fans and players were delighted upon hearing the news but it has not gone down with Costacurta, who made 458 appearances for the Rossoneri between 1987 and 2007.

“Sheva? I wouldn’t have signed him for Milan,” Costacurta told Sky Sport Italia.

“There are two important strikers there like Pato and Borriello and he (Sheva) could create some turbulence.

“No, if it was down to me I would not have resigned him at all.”

Many will agree with the former stopper. The Ukrainian hit-man seems past his best days, and having won everything with Milan in, he may find it difficult to motivate himself.

The deal with Chelsea came down to a tug of war but it was the Italian side who triumphed when push came to shuv as Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani began waving their fists.

You are right
kurtsimonw
I respect what he has to say.. but Shevchenko is more valuable than Borriello to us. Is he as good as he used to be? Maybe not. But Shevchenko has proven in this league, and for Milan has has what it takes. Borriello has had one good season in Italy, been a disaster while wearing the Milan shirt and has an attitude problem to boot.
Tennie
I'm worried about the same thing Billy suggests might be a problem: disruptions in the dressing room.
misha
Good thing that Billy isn't our coach then. Sheva or no Sheva, Milan needed another good striker. Pippo is 35 and injury prone, Boriello is 26 already and never did anything good at big club, and Paloschi is too young and . That leaves us only with Pato who at this point can't carry us all season. Now, with Sheva, we have more options and can play more than just one formation.

I don't trust Borriello at all, and one decent season at small club doesn't really matter when you come to Milan.

What dressing room problems? Sheva has good relationship with most of the team and if Borriello won't be happy about more competition, it's his problem.
Tennie
Misha, my concern is that when someone as in the know as Billy makes a comment like this, they may know what they're talking about regarding dressing room disruption. It's my biggest fear about Shevchenko's return: that it will disrupt the dressing room. Not in the manner of somoene being afraid of competition - they need to suck that up and deal - but in terms of perceived favoritism, because that can get really unpleasant.

As much as I love Billy, gotta hand it over to misha here. Sheva is too mature a player to cause problems. smile.gif He's in the same league as Paolo, Nesta, and other grownups of the squad. Yes, maybe someone like Bori and Pato may feel they're not getting enough play time, but their time will come. I just hope nothing happens in the dressing room.

Oh, get over it acid, nothing will. I'm sure. unsure.gif

Carlo doesn't like Sheva that much. dry.gif At least that's the impression of me, my friends, and several other people on other boars. He even want far enough to call him a traitor-kind-of-thingy, which for a coach of his stature was a bit cheap.

Sheva left because he left. And he gave us 30m pounds to play with. And he never signed a contract that bound him here for life, or sold his soul to Milan (like Paolo). biggrin.gif The manner in which he left was very cheeky, and it hurt everyone, I can understand that. But Carlo favoring Sheva would be the last thing he does.

Unless Mr. B steps in. Then it can get really ugly (or unpleasant, as Tennie put it). Oh, my! sad.gif

All Billy said that after Sheva's signing players like Pato or Borriello might feell unsettled. That's all. Perceived favoritism? I can't see why. Nobody promised him first team spot and there is no reason why Carlo would favor him. Plus, Sheav has a good personality, he's snot a player who demands thing or causing problems in the dressing room.

Seriously though, I think Tennie has got it spot on when she mentioned favouritism. Carlo might not like sheva but if orders from above are to play sheva then that is what Carlo will have to do. I have also heard that sheva will be given the no.7 shirt as well, IMO that is plain disgusting to Pato after what he did for us last season. In all fairness I also heard that sheva didn't want the shirt and would have been happy with no.76, 77 or nearly any number as long as it had a 7 in it, but it seems the management want to favouritise(is this a word?) him which could upset the dressing room.
Jack Sparrow
If they are giving Sheva the number 7, then I think it fair, that Pato be given his favoured number 11. Borriello can wear, I don't know....85 or somthing...

Nice random number, there, captain. dry.gif I was born in 1985, so technically I should be first in line to get it. Borriello can take 86, thank you.

Billy did commentary for Fiorentina-Juve. He actually did a good job, I thought (what I could hear of it over the din in the pub I was at). They also gave a nice 'highlights' intro to his appearance as commentator, which I thought was a good touch.

Billy is 100% right! No other club would have signed a player like Sheva but Milan, he already said some years ago that Carlo lost the dressing room and we all saw ans still see the result, now that he said what he said I expect an exodus in January in the striking dep. especially if Carlo stick with his one striker formation dry.gif

That would be oh, so very cheap of him! angry.gif Leaving because he can't handle competition. Plus, Carlo's time is coming near by the month - either he'll be sacked if he doesn't win, or if he does win, leave in the next couple of years to greener pastures - so we may yet regularly play with a 2 striker formation.

Well, Borri and Pato could leave (maybe on loan) that why I said exodus (50%). When you play with one striker you don't need 4 of them in the roster, but I'm probably wrong and no one will leave because Pippo is going to get injured or underperform!

QUOTE
After a lot of rumours surrounding the future of Alessandro Costacurta, who has recently obtained his license to coach, today Serie B side Mantova announced they have signed the 42-year-old former Milan defender as their new boss.

Costacurta, who did not hesitate much to take this job, talked about the reasons behind this decision.

"Mantova are a club which has always fascinated me, the president is young and ambitious," he said during the press conference. "I thank him very much for this chance, because it isn't easy to entrust a Serie B team to a debutant coach. I am full of enthusiasm and optimistic, this Mantova team can fight for something important, that's why I'm convinced of this choice.

"Speaking of tactics, I can say that in general I like a four-man defence and a 4-2-3-1 system would work for me. The important thing is that the team plays with intensity and aggressiveness, and recovers a winning mentality. Among the players I know Locatelli, who I've played with at Milan, and Notari, who is a product of Milan's youth system."

Costacurta was a Milan player for 21 years, between 1986 and 2007, during which he won everything in the game, including 5 Champions Leagues, 7 Serie A titles, and 2 Intercontinental Cups. He also played for Italy at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, as well as Euro 96.

Mantova are currently in 13th place in Serie B with 13 points, 6 less than leaders Sassuolo.

Costacurta Has Rosso-Nerazzurri Dreams

Mantova tactician Alessandro Costacurta has revealed that he would relish the opportunity to train his former side in the future... but also arch-rivals Inter.

Milan's Alessandro 'Billy' Costacurta retired from football in 2007 and joined Carlo Ancelotti’s back-room staff the following season.

But after earning his coaching badges at the Coverciano course, he has successfully started his own managerial career, landing a job at Serie B side Mantova last month.

The Lombardy-based outfit are currently in 8th place in the Second Division, just one place adrift of the play-off spots.

“My contribution has been mainly on a psychological level, not just tactical,” the 42-year-old noted on Affari Italiani.

“My arrival has given a jolt to the entire team, as confirmed by the three wins on the trot and the positive atmosphere in the locker room.”

The Orago native turned down a proposal from Pisa this summer for family reasons, but feels that a managerial career was always in his DNA.

“Truth be told, I felt like a trainer even when I was on the field of play,” he smiled, “after all, my role allowed me to observe the action from an ideal position and I noticed that my team-mates would listen to my advice, especially over the past few years.

“I would love to coach a top Italian side, hopefully Milan, but why not Inter ( puke.gif )? I am not against them, but I fear they wouldn’t take me…”

COSTACURTA:"Il Milan?
