God, I can't believe we lost. Would have preferred being ***** by a seagull.

I knew we didn't have any real chance in CL, we were going to get eliminated ultimately, but not in this round, just not this English team with those commentators.
mishie
the back 4 was mostly a back 5 with Thiago constently dropping in between nesta and yepes, rino and the frenchmen had the imagination of someone with mental problems...ie retarded, the player that once was seedorf was exactly that a former player, zlatan and robinho looked dis-interested and only pato looked like doing anything. BUT in we have any excuse (which we don't really) our 2 best players out injured and cup tied so all in all we're buggered!
lets concentrate on the league

Secondly, it's not over. We're only 1-0 down and there's no reason for us to go out and attack too much at Shite Hart Lane. Remain respoinsible at the back, don't overly commit today like we did for their goal and a goal is going to come. There is no way we go 2 games against Spurs without scoring, so just play the 2nd leg like any other game.

First off, I hate England, now I'll continue...

Like the optimism, but I can't see it this time Zlatan has some sort of curse when it comes to English clubs he might as well stay in Milan. Robinho couldn't even out strength Assou-Ekkoto (spelling). The only one who could do something is Pato. Though, our midfield I don't know if they will be able to handle them.

As well as being White Hart Lane which is a big factor. Plus, they will have Bale & a fully-fit Modric.

It will be harder than Bayern Munich in 07.

First off. Anyone complaining about the 'bias' of the broadcast, then saying our 'goal' should have stood.. fucking hypocritres.

An early goal and they'll start to panic. It's not over, FAR from it. Forza Milan.

Our gaol could have gone either way, we've seen them given before... Anyways, not going to talk much about it, imo goal or not, we still have just as much to do. they have the away goal, had we scored, we'd still have gone into the second leg essentially a goal down, we deserved it for the mentality we put out there.

Having said that, I agree with what you're saying about staying calm and playing our game when we're away, and I would have had confidence had this been just a couple of years ago under Carlo. If that guy didn't do anything right, he knew how to play these ties like a charm. Allegri imo is the real problem, just like Leo was last season in the CL. His decisions tonight were terrible, and even more terrible was the mindset in which the team came out tonight.

Playing Thiago in midfield, makinf Rino and Flamini act like some sort of psuedo box-to-xo/playmakers was even more idiotic. Benching Pato?? Enough said!

Personally I have no faith in us doing the business away. Allegri just does not have what it takes for the CL, we'll go into that game with the entire wrong gameplan, we used to play those away ties like a charm back in the day, this time, I can see us trying to camp in Spurs' half like we did today and getting constantly caught out. We just do not play a smart game under Allegri.

And with the amount of injury problems we have in the midfield and will still have when the 2nd leg comes around I really can't see us doing anything more this year.

The only time I ever miss Carlo is when it comes to the CL and Allegri has proved again why that is.
Jack Bauer
We should not hesitate to do much needed changes in the summer, like to say goodbye to Rino and Seedorf.

it's a learning process for the coach, but yes i do agree we lost the game through essentally playing with no creation in the middle of the park....the frenchmen isn't and never was good enough and tonight proved that he should go back to the EPL where they like rugby tackles on a football pitch.

With so many troubles this season and our very weak fullbacks and in center of the ground without any star i admire Allegri work so much specially our second half , i think with a good market on the summer he will dominate europe !!

how can you think about next season when you've just seen that?

QUOTE (Jack Bauer @ Feb 15 2011, 11:48 PM) *
Just disgraceful for a club like Milan to lose like this at home to a team like Spurs.

I don't care so much about losing... I did not think we would go through and I don't think we will now... but that attitude was disgusting, I never wanted to see this in Milan.

Liked Pato tonight, everyone else was pathetic. To think players like Sheva, Rui Costa, Maldini etc used to play for us and we turn into a dirty mob laugh.gif

Yes, Pato was good. I don't understand why Seedorf started and he did not and I'm not saying that in hindsight; it's obvious you're not going to stop a young and energetic team with Seedorf. What has Pato done so wrong this season that everyone is criticizing him? All because our savior Ibra does not like him?

Agreed.

We were better in the 2nd half but still struggled to create. Pato and Robinho kept going wide and Zlatan was up front.. who in midfield was going to create anything? Flamini and Rino aren't going to make a defense breaking pass (I'm sure some will point out his pass against Parma though!) and Thiago was playing very deep. We needed Pirlo today, especially once Seedorf went off.

First,he congratulated Tottenham on their good performance.

Cesare went to rant on Gattuso.

He said, that Milan staff should take action, and he had never seen this kind of thing happened in Milan. He also said that Gattuso corrupted Milan's reputation.Blabala

I don't remember for now

Also, loloo.Ibra said that his goal was offside. Then the commentator said "I think it was a foul",then Ibra said "No no,I think it was an offside" tongue.gif

Ibra also said that he isn't satisfied of his performance, and said that it's his mentality, not to be satisfied/happy with performance...

Allegri said that even if he'd play the same match over again,he'd put the same players on the field.

gatusso had so much space on the ball that if he had the skills of even a primavera player he could have at least set up a couple chances. we really miss pirlo. even having boateng instead of flamini or gattuso could have made the difference. zero creativity in the midfield doomed us

The parma pass was a fluke, even Rino himself scratched his head after that one.

Imo the management have made it clear what they're after this season, which is the league, we're depending on Cassano a lot in the league, so does Ibra who looks lost without him. Van Bommel as well has come in and taken a lot of the workload from the midfield, and both players are cup tied. Suddenly we have to play such a big match without them, and at to that t we didn't have either Pirlo or Boateng.

Imo missing Pirlo as you said was our undoing, relying on Flamini and Rino is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to Allegri, he just likes to stick in as many distructive players as he can at one go, see what the strikers can do with the constant long balls.

Next game Allegri seriously needs to get his act together, stop this little experiment with Thiago in the midfield, play Pato and not let petty differences influence his decision and really get his team to play and not come out with an already won mind set. Imo the players defeated themselves today not Spurs, who had an admittedly good start for 30 minutes or so but the rest was all Milan.

The fatal mistake was in how we tried to get the goal, it was ametourish at best.

Many said we're still Milan and we pulled off some sensations before, or mention Bayern last season - but they forget - we don't have the coach to take us far, and we don't have the squad for it. Sorry but cannot really believe that, we've seen great coaches in the past admitting that they made a mistake. Sure Allegri won't say that he should have left Seedorf on the bench because he was awful, we'll see what he does next weekend, and most importantly in the 2nd leg.

The most disgusting display I have ever seen from my Milan !

Cesare Maldini: "..I have been with Milan for 40 years, never once has something like this happened .. Never once has such an unethical behavior happened by anyone representing Milan."

Gattuso's conduct and representation of my club is unacceptable.. I demand immediate termination of his contract. And those who claim Flamini is better; his yellow card should have been a red card!

Never once, not under any of Allegri's predecessors tolerated such conduct. He is not capable of managing this team! He is weak in the head, I do not care what position we are in the league, nor do I expect to proceed to the later stages of the Champions .. Allegri is to be held accountable for allowing Gattuso to continue dragging Milan's image to the ground. You loose some, you win some .. this is football. Spurs played better, they played with a cool mind-set, they took a 0-1 from the San Siro, but the tie is not over ... There is still a second leg and despite the disadvantage of our position in this tie .. Who knows, there is still another 90 minutes to go. I don't care if the ref favored one side over the other as well, I expect Milan to loose in the Champions, I expect Milan to slip from 1st place ... But never could I expect such disgrace.

Should I go on?

Excuses aside, Tottenham are a very good team. Not because of today's result, but the 4-4-1-1 tactics was the catalyst to their sharp display. Milan looked like Cagliari in the belly of one of the Premiere League's finest. This is the time you sit back and reminisce on those days when even if Milan does not win the league, still Milan is represented by gentlemen. Not thugs! Once upon a time .. Carlo Ancelotti sad.gif

All true. But not just under Ancelotti... this never happened before him either. I don't expect Milan to terminate Gattuso's contract nor do I expect Allegri to get fired. But I want something to be done about Gattuso in particular. He must not wear the armband again at the very least. It would be a great move from the management. I take pride in my team being classy. This feels as bad as Istanbul... and I never though I'd say that. sleep.gif

I have read enough. I could not give two hoots about "the champions league" this season, all i want this season is serie A title! The way the transfers have gone this year, the way it looks as tho we are trying to build for the future it seems the management are thinking same way.... CL is great for money but it does not hold the prestige of the OLD European Cup. Both CL and Europa league are just about making money, and focusing on tournaments like this is detrimental to football as a whole.

How can you call it champions league when there are more 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams in their respective leagues involved in the comp?

BRB gotta puke at the banality of it all.

Aw thats better.... TV, Media, Press tell us what is important in football, and i am done bowing to bearded twats in boiler suits telling me how i should live my life. Serie A comes first.....if we can also win Coppa Italia i will be ecstatic, CL is third on my list and i will tell you why!

In my lifetime as a fan and follower of The Rossoneri, i want to wear a shirt with two stars on it!!! I also want my young son to wear that shirt with two stars on it, and i want him to grow up watching football that is skillfull, tactical and exciting.

Forza Milan!

You know, I thought I was the only one.

Agree 100%.

I instantly thought of you when I read it because you've said that many times before.

but I really don't get it... to me it's just a name... it does not have a league format either... so what? these are the best teams in Europe that take part in the CL in my view. would it be any different if it was called the "champions and 2-4th placed teams cup"?

and I've said it before but I'd take a CL victory over not just one but two league wins. Though I'd prefer the scudetto this season - not that we ever had a chance on the CL.

Allegri: 'Defeat was undeserved'

Massimiliano Allegri insists Milan’s 1-0 home defeat to Tottenham was “undeserved and qualification is still wide open.”
The Rossoneri have a mountain to climb in order to reach the Champions League quarter-finals after Peter Crouch scored the only goal at San Siro.

“We are paying the price for the mistake we made on the counter-attack,” said the Coach on Sky Sport Italia.

“We were looking for the goal against Tottenham, who defended very well and it was difficult to find space.

“In the second half we played further up the pitch and created chances. We were too timid before the break and didn’t attack Tottenham properly.

“We’ll need a different approach in London, which we did see in parts in the second half tonight. It’s difficult for anyone to play when Spurs come to San Siro and close down all the spaces. You’ve got to give credit to Tottenham for their defending.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed to deliver on the European stage again, but Allegri defended his striker.

“Up until now Ibra has always done great things. This isn’t the match to judge whether he’s had a good or bad season in Europe.”

Tension escalated at the final whistle with Gennaro Gattuso in a head-to-head with Tottenham assistant manager Joe Jordan.

“I didn’t understand what happened there. It was just a scuffle, nothing serious.”

The Coach also confirmed goalkeeper Christian Abbiati “is in hospital” for tests on concussion after he was stretchered off in the opening minutes.

I don't know if the viewpoint from the stadium is different, but I thought in the second half we dominated Tottenham. What we lacked though, was creativity, and I blame Allegri for that. His decisions were completely erratic. Yepes performs well against Serie A teams, but against fast-paced teams he's useless. His tackle on Lennon in Tottenham's goal was unnecessary and plain embarrassing. Moreover, Thiago, Flamini and Gattuso in midfield created jacksh*t, and Seedorf's pitiful performance didn't help either. Pato's entrance in the second half changed things a bit, but we barely created 2-3 real opportunities, all from corner kicks. This game reminded me of Inter-Milan of last season (when Sneijder got sent off). We literally dominated in the second half, but didn't create anything and ended up losing.

GODDAMNIT!!!

With so many troubles this season and our very weak fullbacks and in center of the ground without any star i admire Allegri work so much specially our second half , i think with a good market on the summer he will dominate europe !!

Thank you!!! Antonini and Abate held up alot better then anyone could have expected. They were flying and intercepting left and right. Antonini was never going to lunge at Lennon at risk getting smoked. He actually forced alot of crappy crosses from Lennon. There is no shame in playing the 1/2y technique if you don't allow a good cross through. Abate had a great grasp of positioning when launching the counters. Problem is nobody saw him going forward. I can honestly say with another year under their belts they can be very important to this team.

+1

gatusso had so much space on the ball that if he had the skills of even a primavera player he could have at least set up a couple chances. we really miss pirlo. even having boateng instead of flamini or gattuso could have made the difference. zero creativity in the midfield doomed us

Max did the best thing he could without a creator in midfield. All this squad has to offer in that department is Pirlo. Allegri deserves praise for taking one of the best CBs in the world and placing him into midfield to add a second great passer to the midfield. Thiago's passing IMO ranks ahead of all but Pirlo's out of our non-forwards. We all knew this team team had only 1 type of mid at the beginning of the year. Slow, out of touch, unoriginal, Reckless players (again with the exception of pirlo). Galliani only got him cup tied solutions. With 45963405 injuries in midfield already + cup tied players, WHAT OTHER OPTIONS DID HE HAVE?!

agaisnt a countering team like Spurs, we needed Seedorf-like players to hold possesion, force them into making mistakes and place that killer ball . How is it Allegri's fault if a well rested Seedorf plays like a USELESS DUD!!! Allegri knew what he knew, and knew what he didn't. He left it up to veterans who had been there and acheived everything, as many before him had. The fact that management felt sentimental and kept the older "pulp" of the team is not Max' fault. The only flexibility he had was Seedorf or Merkel, which many would agree, the right choice was made as Robinho's doesn't have the patience or through-ball skills to really excel in that role.

That's why the little pr!ck is making me dislike him as every week passes. Learn from your mistakes man!! You were clearly in the wrong today, admit it!!!

And now we're just seeing why we have very little chance of going through this tie, because of this guy right here

I really think it has more to do with our injuries than coaching. Do any of you really think the result would be the same with a Boa-Pirlo-Flamini midfield from the start?

Agreed, Max has the utmost confidence in Boa. Which was actually met with critisicm on MF when he played him as a Trequie, a role which he's scored and made some noice at.

QUOTE (mishie @ Feb 15 2011, 05:40 PM) *
foe me the attack isn't the problem its the loss of Pirlo...even Boateng gives us pace and energy..something we soooooo lacked tonight. there was a passage of play in the last 5 minutes of the 1st half were we moved the ball about with speed and precision and spurs looked lost...if we can do that for a sustained period of time then we may get something out of the game at their place.
but how do you replace Pirlo when he's out....impossible i say unsure.gif

Emauelson + Boatang will add much needed speed next year's CL round

You blame Alegri for not making the only mids he had (Rino, Flamini, seedorf) have great, creating performances?

Yepes was MotM IMO. Not to blame for missing Lennon.

I remember voicing my concerns about Allegri and was run out of town innocent.gif

I think it's a tragedy that Milan has players like Ibra, Cassano and Van Bommel on their roster....but tonight, Gattuso, one of our suppoed senatore put them all to shame...The very identity of Milan is under threat and a LARGE share of the blame MUST fall in the lap of ALLEGRI.

Aside from the TEAM assuming the very personality of Ibra himself, we have sunk to new depths by no longer being compatible with different types of talent. I don't care who disagrees but Allegri NEVER understood Ronaldinho....all of the NONSENSE that he wasn't working well in training etc etc was simply the wallpaper he applied to the cracks in his coaching. I fear the same fate may await Pato as well mad.gif

tl;dr

I think you might have been watching Valencia-Schalke and got somehow confused with the colors and names. No way in hell Abate and Antonini are Milan quality, especially Antonini. He was inexistent in the first half, and Lennon got past him three times in a row. Offensively, he's mediocre, and defensively he gets dribbled way too easily. Abate did somewhat better, but again, not Milan quality.

Yepes didn't have a bad game, but he practically laid a red carpet to Lennon in their goal. Had it been Thiago, Lennon would have never made that assist to Crouch.

Allegri made the wrong decisions because he's too inflexible in his approach. He's incapable of making changes to our playing system when certain key players are missing. Why opt for a 3-man midfield when you have available only two midfielders? Why play Gattuso and Flamini as box-to-box, when they're clearly incapable of such playing style? Why bench Pato? Given our absences, and given the players at disposal, Allegri should showed some balls and played a 4-2-1-3. Gattuso and Flamini in front of the defense doing what they do best, winning balls. Seedorf as deep-lying trequartista, with Robinho and Pato on the wings. I can't tell you whether we would have won or not, but at least we would have played a much better football than we did tonight.
Darunia
Thiago is one of the few people who would have made that tackle on Lennon. Why is Ibra not getting flack for making that awful pass to start the counterattack? It wasn't Yepes fault, plus he was already on a yellow. Nesta wouldn't have done any better in that situation... 1 on 1 with Lennon, one of the paciest players in the world, is not something you should leave your CB in ..

Isn't that reason enough?! sleep.gif First he plucked off Ronaldinho (his stupid salary was another reason, I agree), and now he is after Pato. Ibra plays along with Robinho because he is a nobody (I'll never rate this bird-head even 10% of the guys like R80 and Pato, never once has he shown himself in big games consistently).

Fact is that Ibrahimović likes to be the biggest fish in the pond. mad.gif And the tag-along Allegri is with him.
Jack Sparrow
I honestly don't get the Ibra doesn't like Pato gag. It's just something the crazy media came up with to have something to talk about negative, since at one point we were marching away to glory in the Serie A race. And we eat it up like sardines??!!

It's no secret that our best performing trident is Ibra-Cassano-Robinho. ANd that's not coz of some stupid reason like Allegri/Ibra doesn't like Pato. It's common sense.

One technical big man forward, one brilliant visionary of an SS and one effervescent CAM. If you want you can replace Ibra with Pato and I assume it would also be good. But that begs the age-old question why bench the man in form?

Secondly, Ibra is not showing up in big games?? And yet we call him the saviour? He dragged us through the group stages with his goals. He even 'scored' yesterday. It's I think a simple case of him being damned by his reputation...when the simple truth is like Beckham, like Ronaldo and dare I say like Cassano he has integrated himself well into the unit. Is he a dyed-in-wool rossoneri? No. But he's working his @ss off for the team, just like Robinho. I remember the image of a dehydrated Ibra, puking out there on the pitch after a match. He's left everything out there. ANd we can only say,"Oh that boy is trouble!!"

Finally on Pato....he came back from injury, I doubt his fitness and perhaps playing him from minute 1 and having him run around is not the best option I feel. As for playing with Ibra, he's already scored quite a few off Ibra's assists I think. And last evening when he came on, the grit, the resolve he showed is an aspect of him I've never seen before. He wanted to get involved with a passion and I think that's a great thing to see.

Sometimes benching a player can improve him. And I prefer to believe it when Allegri says it's tactical rather than personal. Pato himself has said he's happy here.

Finally Allegri's 'mistreatment' of R80. The new formation did not suit him. We got scrweed by Madrid primarily because we could not be compact with R80 in there. And his lack of propensity to track back and scrum it out meant the team as a whole were suffering. Ultimately, he lacked the motivation to change himself or to train when he couldn't play in the first XI, so he left.

And it's not like the team has been worse off for it.
