Didn't Milan play the CL final in the 94/95 season? How's that a debacle? blink.gif

Yep, it was kind of a farewell final that left us with no Champions League and was a prelude to the 1996 nightmare when we finished 11th.

Can't help but smile when people here talk about the 'Dark Ages' of the late 90'ies... because those Serie A titles in 1996 and 1999 were so terribly disastrous weren't they?

Ok..cool.

Find me a Seedorf, Pirlo, Rino, Pippo replacement.

And don't say Merkel, Fossati, Strasser, Paloschi.
IMO:
Seedorf = we need replacement
Pirlo = same but even more
Rino = Strasser can (Flamini or his replacement as starter)
Pippo = Paloschi can
acid911
Well, Locke, I remember seeing glimpses of that time in the Paolo Maldini DVD. smile.gif And boy the fans surely seemed to think it were dark times, they were jeering the players, legends and icons alike, throwing things on the pitch, it was a riot if you ask me. Sure we won things here and there, but it were tough times.

And the start of the new decade wasn't exactly better. When Carlo took the reigns, it was the age of desperation!

Why do you think Paloschi is even near of a Pippo replacement? Or Strasser? How can you tell? Just because they're young, or what? Because, honestly, I like Palo very much, but did he made anything remotely special at Parma?

To me, dark ages of Milan present the Serie B period and all the alligations we faced.

1996, when we finished 11th, the season before and after - I'd say are a debacle.

1997-1999 were transitional years, but in choas. We won the scudetto, but it was a miracle.

Do we agree Locke?

No, he had injuries (and growth spurts), but Paloschi showed he is something for his age. Nowadays Inzaghi is just a sub, and someone like Paloschi makes sense to be a sub: nice prospect but not too young and has some little experience already. I also believe Strasser shows some prospect and he also isn't too young (Merkel and Verdi are still very young). What's wrong with having them as backups? Or you simply never ever want youth to give a chance?

How can you tell? Please, you can NEVER! It's just making your own judgements for what might work out wether it's having Paloschi as backup or keeping Inzaghi for another season. There are never garantuees for every decision working out. (Also, to be clear: I am not eying to 'dump' all 4 players named.*)

(*For example: at the moment I don't feel like 'dumping' Gattuso since I have more faith in him than Flamini and our other DMs. So I rather see Flamini leave - I know he is 'young' and Gattuso and Ambrosini are not, but at least we will get some nice money which we can use (someday) for a different DM if needed.)

Actually, he has shown little and still is too young. Hell, he's 20 or 21. Nowdays, Pippo is one of the best subs and jokers in the world, we used to cry how Inter had Cruz as a supersub; well now, since we have Pato and Ibra plus Pippo we have almost a better roster. So, what's the problem in keeping Inzaghi as a sub? Why should he be replaced by a kid whose abilities are still in development?

Exactly my point - we cannot tell, but Allegri, Tassotti, and dozens of other guys who are involved with the club can tell. Don't you think Allegri would have replaced Pippo with Paloschi if he thought it would benefit us? Or give Strasser more time? Or is he a retard, like Ancelotti and Leonardo before that?
Locke Lamora
I can't seem to get the multi-quote thing right, so here's to acid and Filippo Simone:

acid: It just seems wrong to write off years where you won two Serie A titles as "disaster" years where you "picked up the odd trophy".

FS: Sure, the 96-97 season was a disaster, but it was also a bit of an one-off. Had you experienced several seasons like that then sure, you could have called that a disaster. As for a miracle Scudetto, well, the 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003 Scudetti races all went down to the last day, I don't think Milan's was particularly lucky or undeserved.

Where did I say it's a problem to keep Inzaghi as a sub? All I did was giving my opinion which prospects are IMO good and ready enough to have a backup role in our team. And your second part is even more ridiculous, I should not even reply to this comment, but obviously there is some very high level of loyalty, so the older players who have been here since forever and are so called 'proven' but mostly 'champions' are getting automaticly picked over any kind of prospect it seems. Having that said, I never said they are retards(wtf?) or something like that.

Inzaghi is 37, he should be shown the door. Milan is not a retirement home. As of now, Paloschi is a much better player. He's just having injury problems at Parma.

As Chu-Lip said, it's mainly down to growth spurts, which isn't anything to worry about. Imo the fact that Parma wanted to keep him for another season speaks for itself.

As for the discussion in general, I think all of our veterans deserves respect, that means not throwing them out to the curb like yesterday's leftovers.

Imo Seedorf, Rino, Ambro and Pippo are all great players to have, but only as top quality backups. If someone is injured or Allegri needs to make a tactical change, what more could we ask for then having such players on the bench. Seedorf is a genius, plain and simple. But he's not eternal. Imo him playing every 3 days is the coaches mistake and no one else's. Playing Seedorf and Rino every 3 days in that midfield to me is just plain ridiculous, especially when you have Flamini and Boateng on the bench.

Imo if it came down to keeping them or not renewing I would renew only on the condition that they aren't regular starters for the team, starting a couple of games is not a problem if there are injuries or a tactical reason for it, but they shouldn't playing more then 2 full games per month plus the sub appearances.

Agreed. I still want Paloschi over Inzaghi though.

What, you would keep both Palo and Pippo as subs? Or? I don't get it, we have Pato, Ibra, Robby, Pippo,...Palo would be 4th or 5th. That would hinder his development, wouldn't it?

That was a flashback, Ancelotti used to be called that way often here. I didn't mean you explicitly said that. Sorry if I offended you with that word.

since we all are not at the club so we all should shut up about everything. God, that would be boring. And stop putting words in my mouth. I just want to see prospects giving a better chance to succeed at Milan that I'm used to. Obviously you think all youth sucks and we should keep all of our 'proven' players until they are 44.

You accuse me of putting false words in your mouth, while doing exactly the same in an even worser context. What's there more to say?

Gee, I didn't say we all should not talk about it, but why thinking so high about a player you saw play...how many time? Once, twice? I don't mention Strasser often, since I didn't see him play much, but if Allegri, Ancelotti and Leonardo didn't put him in it sure means to me something - I then assume he isn't ready, so no, I don't consider him a replacement for anyone.

I think having Paloschi training with Inzaghi would benefit him a great deal, but I agree, next season Paloschi needs to be brought back and be our backup forward to Ibra

You see, this is what bothers me. In a simple post you've shown disrespect to a player I like, and now I almost feel bad saying it.
Zed.D
I don't think replacing Inzaghi with Paloschi AT THIS VERY MOMENT would be a good move. the kid shouldn't have been sent to another team in the first place but now that he is, he should stay there for a couple of more seasons (until his growth hormones level are back to normal!). plus, Inzaghi isn't doing badly after all...
CHU-LIP
I liked the idea having both Inzaghi and Paloschi in the club for the latter his development, but obviously the club rather sends him out to somewhere else.

Dude, stop being such a drama queen. You think I'm not grateful to Inzaghi for all the glories he's given us Milan fans? Frankly, he's the one being disrespectful to the club that gave him an international name by renewing his contract for the sole purpose of personal benefit (we all know he stayed in order to beat Mueller's record). He's holding us back.

At first I thought Inzaghi was holding us back: he disappointed me last season, so I preferred to give Paloschi a chance, but Paloschi again/still is injured/growing, and Inzaghi does well so far for us this season. Next season I hope to see Paloschi back. I have trust in him, but I wouldn't call him a better player than Pippo at the moment. Next season maybe it's different though. Or is Pippo retiring after this season?

Gattuso, Ambrosini and Flamini are all better than Strasser, but from what I have seen I believe he is good enough to be a second backup for DM position. (This season, so not Ancelotti/Leonardo time.) But with the high amount of DMs he gets it tough getting playing time. No it's worse, sometimes we play no DM. I hoped we gave youth a bit more chance than we used to do. sad.gif

Odu gets most playimg time, while he actually never impressed me. Except for 1 long pass.

Yes, like most of the strikers. But if we're speculating so much recently about what he thinks, I'd bet he and Pato are the only strikers in our present roster that think about Milan as well as themselves.
