Maldini 7.5 - At the age of 40, it is impossible to believe that Maldini can put in a performance like he did tonight. For those who think Milan are carrying Maldini, watch how he marked Ibrahimovic tonight.

Quote of the funking year! cool.gif Forza the Age of Maldini!

QUOTE (amancik @ Sep 29 2008, 02:40 AM) *
Jankulovski 6.5 - Was oustanding against Lazio last week, and did not let the side down at all tonight. Quaresma barely had a kick all game, even if that was more down to the Inter man than Jankulovski.

Janku has been our most consistent player all season - both in attack and defense. king.gif

QUOTE (amancik @ Sep 29 2008, 02:40 AM) *
Ibrahimovic 6 - Once again Ibrahimovic falls short in a big game. He was by no means poor tonight but he was clearly second best against Maldini. Missed a good chance on 70 minutes, and a heavy first touch also let him down in the first half.

He's not that big of a flop in big games, as some people like to think. rolleyes.gif It's just that he can't impose himself on the proceedings as well a Kaka or Ronaldo, or even Ronaldinho!

QUOTE (amancik @ Sep 29 2008, 02:40 AM) *
Quaresma 4 - The biggest disappointment on the pitch. Lost the ball almost every time he touched it, and it is strange how he managed to last the 90 minutes without being substituted. The question marks over his personality are now getting bigger.

Personality, huh? Sometimes I think inter, Mourinho, Ibra, Quaresma and almost every second person in the blue camp is heading for one big bang! When that comes is anyone's guess, but it can't be that far out, judging by the way things are going. sleep.gif Too much ego!

Abbiati 6.5 - Did not have any real tough saves to make, apart from one from Stankovic, but his decision making was excellent all night, and he also did well on crosses.

Funny how Abbiati has been getting 6.5s consecutively! unsure.gif I smell a rat. No 6s, no 7s, huh?

MILAN - The gift has arrived: for his birthday Silvio Berlusconi has one more victory in the derby. 29 September is a special day for Milan because the president can celebrate his birthday with three points more, like all Milan fans. Here are all the declarations of Silvio Berlusconi to Milan Channel's microphones.

'I saw a great Milan tonight, who played with great technique and heart. I did not see a single player not give his best. I saw an extraordinary Clarence Seedorf run after every ball in midfield, like everyone else who played with a lot of determination and dignity. I saw a truly great team, which has some of the greatest talents in the world. I don't think there's any club like us, with Kaká, Pato, Ronaldinho and so on. I also want to cite Abbiati, he has a great physique, good sense of position, and especially incredible courage. He always manages to make the right decision and tonight he made no mistakes. He's a great keeper.'

'We know Sheva, he had practically always scored in the derbies. He comes from two years of break, he has to recover, we know he will be himself again.'

'Ronaldinho played a great match. His name had been obscured a bit by what happened at Barcelona. Now he is himself again. He's scored a great goal and did great things, which are worth the price of the ticket. He was decisive. I would also like to see him play further forward, not only on the left wing where he did well.'

'Tonight Milan did what they had to do. They came on the pitch to win and control the play. But four victories aren't that many, we have to continue like this!"

It's usual Rinho's behaviour. I can remember him in Yokohama - row with Dida.

I dont think it was about the row Rino didnt need to over tackle but thats his nature and it worked i dont think i saw Quaresma in the game at all. Rino did look a bit injured i'd wouldve like a Flamini swap but good old Carlo suprised me.

Gattuso 7 - The old Gattuso was back tonight. So fired up that his eyeballs were popping out like a drug addict. His touchline row with Ancelotti proved how much he wanted to win this game.

Haha! That's a definition of 'Dozer'. droolsmiley.gif Either our friend Bluesummer works for Goal.com, or someone from there reads Milanfan.com! Take your pick.

Neither Quaresma nor Mancini had a good night. Ambrosini and Gattuso did a great job backtracking and helping to mark them out of existence. Viera and Cambiasso had no answer for Seedorf at all.

Mourinho: We deserved draw
Sunday 28 September, 2008

Jose Mourinho thinks a draw would've been the right result and that Milan's “pragmatism” was the only difference.

“Milan scored a goal and we didn't, that is the story of this match. They had a few shots on goal and despite playing a man down, we had some great chances,” he said after the 1-0 derby defeat.

“I saw two teams tonight and neither one deserved a win more than the other. I will not talk about the goal or the red card, as I don't want to get suspended.”

Nicolas Burdisso saw red in the second half, when Ronaldinho's header had already opened the scoring, but Adriano almost snatched an equaliser in stoppages after he came off the bench along with Julio Cruz.

“When I don't like the result, I am not afraid to run risks. I did the same when we were 0-0 against Lecce, but here when we went down to 10 men I couldn't replace Esteban Cambiasso with Mario Balotelli.

“We needed the midfield held together and the way things were going Patrick Vieira would've got a second booking too.”

Lazio are incredibly leading the Serie A table now with Inter on 10 points, Milan and Juventus nine, Roma and Fiorentina seven.

“When I look at the table, with all due respect, I don't look at Lazio, Napoli or Catania. I see that we are ahead of Roma, Juventus and Milan,” continued Mourinho.

“A team that plays against Milan, who are basically all midfielders, need to balance things out. We only had two midfielders - Cambiasso and Vieira - so Cruz is in better physical shape and I put him there to put pressure on Clarence Seedorf.

“A side with 10 men that ends the game like this on the attack and forcing Milan to introduce a defender for a forward says it all. Milan were more pragmatic, this is football.”

The Inter boss criticised the Italian media's obsession with controversy over the quality of football this week, but explained his position after his first Milan derby.

“At this moment Italian football is my football, just as when I worked in England I was proud to say it was a fantastic League.

“Today's derby started out in a splendid way for me, as you cannot see the fans behave so wonderfully in every country. I didn't know they could be so respectful and generous.

“The players were respectful on the field, although Burdisso was ridiculously sent off, as I don't think he deserved to get either yellow card.

“Marco Materazzi was sent off from the bench and it seemed a familiar tale to me. He started from such slight beginnings to become World champion.

“It seemed a real derby to be and a very entertaining game. I feel 1-1 was the right result, but this was down to pragmatism. It's better to lose a game than to be afraid of playing football. We played.”

Of course it wouldn't be Mourinho without a snide comment against his opponents and he launched a broadside at the Rossoneri.

“Milan have a lot of experience and they know how to control the tempo, commit a tactical foul or pretend to have an injury to slow down the pace.

“I praise the Rossoneri and also my own team. We lost a game, but the side did very well and we are facing some difficult fixtures coming up in the next few weeks. The important thing is that we are still in front of Juve, Milan and Roma.”

Kaka laughs off Jose comments
Sunday 28 September, 2008

Kaka shoots down all Jose Mourinho’s claims, saying Milan “dominated” the derby and explains why Ronaldinho is getting back to his best.

Inter Coach Mourinho had stated that “neither side deserved the win” and the only difference between the teams tonight was the goal.

“It’s true we scored the goal, but other than that I think Milan dominated the match and always tried to play attacking football,” he said after the 1-0 victory.

“Mourinho makes me laugh, like when he said Dejan Stankovic’s foul was really me pretending to be injured as a tactical choice. It’s funny.

“We are all professionals and off the field everyone is friends. We defend our colours on the pitch, but ultimately we all know each other.”

It was a much-needed result after Milan’s disastrous start of two straight Serie A defeats and they are now just three points adrift of leaders Lazio.

“That negative moment has passed, as now we have notched together a series of four victories and are playing very well.”

The Rossoneri winner was netted by Ronaldinho, who forged an impressive all-Brazilian trident with Alexandre Pato and Kaka.

“It’s wonderful to see Ronaldinho so happy and determined to become a decisive player again. He is working so hard and is on his way back.

“We may make different lifestyle choices, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be friends and play together. I am very glad he’s here, as he has brought many things the team was missing.”

Good classy response by Kaka. biggrin.gif The Mou-man doesn't know inter as much as he thinks he does. They're born loser.

Flamini for Pato, typical Carlo.

Not sure if it'll work, we're just inviting them to attack!

I was a bit disappointed - but in this instance it wasn't that bad after all we were playing against Mourinho's tactics consisting of 4 all out attackers atm, and in the end Shevchenko got a few minutes as well later on, and prior to that Kaka and Ronaldinho were on so it wasn't too bad.

Superb win.

Abbiati, Carlo, Kaladze, Maldini, all did their jobs very well today. They deserve a whole bunch of credit. We had a fair few decisions go our way, but it isn't our fault refs are hopeless nowadays. biggrin.gif Nice goal from R80, unstoppable header, Kaka' looked much improved from his recent performances. Rino.. still not impressed, Flamini and Ambro need to start next game.

blink.gif ohmy.gif
First half - prior to Ronaldinho coming out on top to score, I found he could have contended for MOTM (1st half)
He fizzled out a bit in the 2nd half.
But surely looked full of energy in the 1st - I was truely excited to see the way in how hungry he was for the ball again as he used to play soo frequently.

maldini just looked great

people can say what they want about him slowing down with age...but man, he's just amazing. great job securing the middle

First half I remember one particular in which Ibra got away from him (in which Maldini could have done better)
Had Ibra done better as well and composed himself - they could have went one up, before us, but glady it didn't happen.
Other than that I'll admit he looked really well in this game, he really pushed himself, his best performance in a while! Props to him for that (I was really nervous without Nesta, but he picked up the slack)
Forza Paolo!

This was a very exciting heart beating match..Zambrotta saved our asses a couple times..I must confess Adriano is good..If he will come to milan that'll be good like he said on goal.com...Pato caused inter a lot of trouble even if he didn't score..Very talented...Ronaldinho...wow...He still has it..He scored for us in the derby which was the only goal...Our defense did good..I saw that Kaladze was constantly clearing the ball and he didn't even wait for the opponent to get to him..Nice..Kaka was perhaps the man of the match...Finally we see the Kaka-ronaldinho combo..Ronnie crosses to kaka, kaka crosses back to Ronnie, Ronnie scores....Now we're really in contention for the Serie A..I'm so happy right now...It could have been more if sheva was sharper at the direction of where the ball was going but i'm very satisfied with this game..It's hightime we were up there in the table..Forza milan for scudetto...Abbiati showed me that he's reliable...Def #1 milan goalie

Agreed. cool.gif In any normal match, that could very well have been a direct red. Teams deliberately target Kaka, and it sometimes remind me of Van Basten, how after winning the Golden Ball he was on the hit list of opposing teams. Same with Kaka, unfortunately.

What Matrix has done in the past doesn't matter, two wrongs don't make a right. If somebody injures me, I will go out of my way to get them back. It doesn't make it right, in fac it's a terrible thing to do!

Some lol attribution:

laugh.gif @ all the Inter players that have mocked Ronaldinho over the past few months. Even if he disappears, they still paid for their words!
laugh.gif @ Carletto for his changes and the physical condition of the team. Inter were awful until the 60th minute when our physical problems began to show while his changes allowed them to come forward!
laugh.gif @ Mourinho for his comments about Milan players faking injury. Open your mouth, taste defeat and then shut it Josephine!
And a long laugh.gif laugh.gif @ those who said Maldini is finished. He's still great and he'll stay for as long as he wishes to, learn to like it! wink.gif

It was a good game from Milan until the hour mark... I think maybe a draw would be a fairer result but in these games a single goal usually makes the difference and this time it was Milan that scored it.
Apart from the offside that was not given I think the officiating was excellent, I say that because some suggest (not only here) that the refs handed us the game which is absolutely ridiculous! rolleyes.gif
Seedorf was truly amazing. I think this was his best game in recent years. Gattuso was great too. No matter how bad this guy was last season (and he was bad!) he has offered a lot to Milan and he should at least be shown some respect (this goes to Kurt)! Against Inter (and since the beginning of the season) he has justified why he is still a Milan player...
Kaka and Ronaldinho also were very good. I could not believe how happy the buck-toothed fatass was after scoring!
Ancelotti should really do something about the team's physical condition... it's a joke! mad.gif
From Inter, Zanetti was very good and Zlatan, as always, their best player! The Swede is a beast. Adriano almost nailed it, he helped change the flow of the game - not more than Ancelotti of course.

To conclude...
Yeah ***** we won! cool.gif devil.gif
PatitoFeo
Yeah I agree Gattuso had a good game - at first I thought he looked a bit out of control, but his fouls did break up any rhythm Inter had and he covered a lot of ground.
Mook
Although Kaka' was offside, the two inter players just sat off him and allowed him to pick his pass to Dinho. That goal could have been easily prevented but there was no pressure from I think Chivu and Quaresma. So the last thing Mourinho should be worried about is the offside decision costing them.

As far as the penalty shouts went, if the Adriano one was given so should have been the one on Kaka'. FACT.

If he can put such performance in all games, by all means. he can play until his 50 tongue.gif thing is, he was at fault on the first two goals we conceded against Bologna and Genoa, both resulted in defeat, -6 points. now that's a lot for a player like Maldini. you can call me whatever you want, but I for one can't disregard those mistakes because he had a spectacular game against Inter.

I will agree that he had a disastrous game against Genoa (even without the penalty) but he was not at fault for Bologna's goal. You always defend Pato no matter what but defense is my area... he did just what he had to do, he tried to trap Di Vaio to an offside and if it wasn't for you-know-who and his kaladzities we would not be talking about it now... Kakha was not only keeping him onside but he failed to tackle the ball away from him too, I really can't see how Maldini can be blamed for this.
