Italy match is pretty much over.

At least Maldini had the grace to retire from international football when he was just leaving his peak years. Cannavaro is appalling, and if he somehow makes to it the world cup or matches Maldini's record in his current state, it will be a sad day for football

w/e a whole game a man down, not a bad result, just Cannavaro was horrendous.

And goal Keane. Can't say it hasn't been coming. Chiellini aside, the defending has been shocking for Italy. Cannavaro is WAY past his sell by date.

And he's still playing dry.gif it's sad that he will break Maldini's appearance record
Tennie
Full credit to the rest of the team for playing 90 mins. Chiellini was great. So was Iaquinta, who I don't generally like all that much. They were just exhausted by the end.

Cannavaro...was good in the World Cup. Thank you, let's move on. This was embarrassingly poor from him.
Tennie
Also....from the Comnebol qualifying - Bolivia 4 - 1 Argentina.

And people wonder why Carrizo isn't starting for Lazio. smile.gif
whoarethepatriots
Canna was fairly good before the Euro's too, time it seems has caught up with him. I know Lippi will call him up regardless (would have done the same with his fave boy Vieri if he was fit in 2006) so we must hope Canna gets injured in summer

Argentina getting smashed ohmy.gif
Tennie
And down to 10 too, whoarethepatriots. smile.gif Di Maria sent off.
whoarethepatriots
Argentina it seems have a similar propensity to that of Brazil when getting thrashed, which is to loose all discipline. Speaking of Brazil are they playing? and is Kaka in the squad
kurtsimonw
Damn Italy, all they had to do was beat Ireland!

John Terry is the man, an assist, a solid performance throughout, then a winner 4 minutes from tome. cool.gif
Tennie
Brazil play in 4 hours, and I think Kaka is supposed to be in the squad.
kurtsimonw
Bolivia 6-1 Argentina..
Tennie
That's their worst defeat in something like 60 years, kurt. smile.gif

If he keeps this up, Maradona will be a legend in England.
kurtsimonw
European Qualifying tables at the moment.

*England, Spain and Holland have maximum points.
*Portugal, Norway and the Czech Republic are the under-acheivers so far.
*Bosnia, Northern Ireland and Hungary have put themself in an unexpectedly good position at this stage.

Kaka – 8: Showed just why Brazil missed his influenced so much in Ecuador. Not only did he bring an energetic creative spark in midfield, but his ability to open up spaces allowed his team-mates to excel. Won the penalty for the opening goal and had a hand in the third goal when he acted as a decoy for Felipe Melo.

FINALLY!!!!! THE FUTURE CAPTAIN IS BACK!!! ITS TIME TO GET SECOND PLACE, **** YEAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also I think that can be said about him and Milan too. He doesn't play, we don't do sh!t. Forza ricardo. I believe in second place if he is able to play the rest of the season smile.gif
whoarethepatriots
I was thinking about the Italy match the other day, and it strikes me how illogical it was to bring off Pirlo. He was by far the best player on the pitch, so why Lippi took him off is baffling. I also am unsure how Pepe managed to stay on the pitch for the amount of time he did, but to be fair when Ancelotti leaves Favalli and Emerson on for whole games, it dosent strike me as strange at all
Tennie
So, Mexico has sacked Sven Goran Eriksson as the coach of their NT.
MizNelson
I didn't even know he was the Mexico coach. That was an odd pairing if I ever saw one.

I doubt he will be. After all with carlo staying rolleyes.gif I don't think we'll be stupid enough to pull a stunt like that. We are trying to become a better team, not dig our graves deeper.
kurtsimonw
It seems Arsenal keeper Almunia may be applying for citizenship so he can become England keeper..

First of all, he's not English, therefore should not be England keeper. Players playing for the wrong countries make international football completely pointless really. Not only that, but what makes him think he's good enough? He'll probably get the starting role because he plays for a good team, but christ is he a poor keeper. Robert Green must be thinking he killed the King in a past life or something, what does he have to do to get a game.
Jack Sparrow
It's the norm isn't it? You have Deco playing for Portugal for instance.

I wouldn't exactly say the 'norm', I disagree with it, but yes he does. If it was ancestry then I usually give it a miss as they may have been bought up to feel part of that country. But just by living somewhere a while.. give me a break!

I have no problem with a player wanting to play for another country I'd blame the respective association for selecting him instead ... but I just don't get it. I mean... I can understand someone being desperate to play on international level... for HIS OWN country! What joy does one get by representing any other nation? Maybe my mind needs a new firmware but it cannot comprehend this at all.

I agree with Kurt on what he said except for the quality of Almunia as a player. He's by no means one of the best out there but he is still better than all the English keepers that have represented the NT in the past few years.

Green > Almunia.

Talking of Almunia, he should have saved that ROnaldo shot just now..

England have submitted their bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. If we don't get either, that's an absoloute disgrace. England should get 1, Australia the other, if the US or Spain get them again - which some people believe is very like - then it's a joke, we should have had it a long time ago.

Ah so you might even win something! tongue.gif

What about the 2014 one, has it been decided?

The 2012 Olympics then the 2018 World Cup? can you see that happening? I mean when was the last time a country hosted the Olympics and the World Cup back to back? unsure.gif

There's Olympics in 2016 too. tongue.gif

I don't think that's relevant though, they're completely different things run by completely different organisations. I would still personally go with England and Australia for the events, or maybe Canada.

Gomes? I don't get it. He has a number of very good years for PSV, never gets to play for Brazil. But after a nightmare season at Spurs, he gets called up? blink.gif

Goalkeepers and strikers are worrying.. only Rooney and Crouch start regularly for their clubs! Hopefully we play with just the 1 up front.
kurtsimonw
Michael Carrick has picked up a foot injury and will be replaced by James Milner. I hope he gets to see some action, I believe he holds the record with 40+ England Under-21 caps, about time he made a first team appearance.

Cassano in the NT!? No thanks, Lippi is doing OK with this one.

Gareth Barry's move to Manchester City was almost soured by a thumping challenge from Gary Cahill during England training yesterday in Almaty.

City’s new £130,000-a-week signing refused to shake hands with his former Aston
Villa colleague after Cahill caught him late and left Barry limping away in disgust.

The two players clashed in April when Barry fouled Cahill, now with Bolton, during a League game.

Disgusted: Gareth Barry refused to shake hands with Gary Cahill after his tackle

While Fabio Capello encourages his players to show commitment in training, late tackles that cause injuries are obviously frowned upon.

Capello may not be impressed by Cahill’s over-zealous desire to make his mark in his first week with the England squad.

The defender was called in as a replacement for the injured Rio Ferdinand who has been training hard at Manchester United in the hope of returning for next week’s game against Andorra at Wembley.

Gary Neville had to sit out training, forcing Capello to deploy Shaun Wright-Phillips at right back for one team — Glen Johnson took up his usual role in the opposing side.

Gary Cahill doing what 90% of Villa fans wanted to do.. maybe Barry could learn something from Cahill - how to leave Villa in a classy way. dry.gif

Very much looking forward to the qualifiers this week. 2 wins and we're well on our way. Hopefully both Croatia and the Ukraine drop some points, then we'd be in a great position!

Ambro is good at what he does (defensive challenges) but the last thing he offers to any team is innovation.
--
I wasn't Pazzini's greatest fan but he deserved to play in the CC much more than, let's say, the overrated Simone Pepe.
Fillipo Simone
Innovation and Ambrosini were not connected. If Lippi wants innovations he should call up several new faces, especially for such tournaments. If not, he should consider the best possible selection, which undoubtedly includes Ambrosini.

Agreed.

I know many here rate Lippi highly but I think he's too old fashioned and this team selection will not work..
kurtsimonw
I still don't understand why England are playing this game.. will we be playing the likes of Japan and Korea at Euro2012 then?

Gareth Barry, 1-0..
