I've been observing Otamendi the whole time, the guy is teh win! We should sign him at all cost, and by doing so, we could also refrain ourselves from signing a fullback since he can play on the side very well too.

FIGC blast "offensive" Lega Nord
Tuesday 22 June, 2010
The FIGC reacted angrily after Lega Nord politician Umberto Bossi suggested Italy would “buy” their qualification against Slovakia.
The Azzurri must win Thursday’s game in order to be sure of reaching the second round of the World Cup.
When asked for a prediction on the score, Bossi gave an unexpected reply.
“It doesn’t matter, as they’re going to buy the result anyway. You’ll see that next season in Serie A there will be two or three Slovakian players in the Italian clubs.”
The Lega Nord party are already at the centre of controversy after their radio station ran commentaries of the World Cup games actively cheering on Italy’s opposition.
They believe that the country should be divided into North and South, so the united Azzurri do not ‘represent’ them.
“It was a disconcerting and offensive statement,” read a statement released by the FIGC and President Giancarlo Abete.
“This time and in this particular moment, Senator Bossi has gone over the line.”
Oh my god. who the FOCK are these people?!!?! Bossi is a complete MOTHER****ER, so is everyone around him.
Excuse the language but I got really angry!!

You missed his radio station cheering against Italy when Paraguay scored, or one of his buddies complaining about the bonuses the players got for NT duty (which prompted the 'we'll donate it to the charity for the italian unity celebration' thing).

Meh, Terry was spot on as far as I'm concerned.
If Joe does play tomorrow and we win, might as well have Terry coaching the team. The FA making him apologise is s load if BS. Especially seeing as they're probably the ones that deserve the most blame in recent years.
But the FA didn't make him apologise, he apologised after the rest of the squad made it clear that they backed Don Fabio.
I find it totally ironic that they were outstanding in the qualifiers using Don Fabio's tactics and formations yet as soon as they get to Africa those same tactics and formations are wrong! Don Fabio was correct when he said the players are scared.
Oh, and what if we win tomorrow and Joe Cole doesn't play?

Jun 22 2010, 10:48 PM
Meh, I see it differently, Capello's ego is way too big.
We do well in qualifying and it's all him apparently, yet when we do poorly using the same tactics it's magically the players fault and he deflects the blame away from himself.
You either take the praise AND the blame or neither. This whole "win = Capello good, lose = players bad" thing is ********.

QUOTE (MizNelson @ Jun 22 2010, 01:01 PM)

The US' bellyaching about the phantom foul against Slovakia has been bad enough (which itself has conveniently covered up the fact that they shouldn't have gone down 2-0 like that in the first place). But the real drama queens never fail to stay in the shadows for very long, and we have France and England to thank for that.
not to start something new. i think every player on the team will tell you they should have never gone down. however, a team deserves to win if they fight their way back into it. i think that's what makes people so upset.
can't wait for tomorrow's game though. should be a good one.

I wouldn't expect s good performance from us, trouble within the camp isn't ever a good thing, we'll go the way of France I think.
The most annoying thing about the US is how they seemingly ignore any call that goes there way. Dempsey elbowed a Slovenian player in the face after about 40 seconds and got away with it. 2 wrongs don't make a right, but 1 big call went against either team, you could argue that the one against Slovenia was bigger given that they would gave had 90 minutes to play against 10 men.

England must and should win, but I'm not so sure they will. Like Kurt said, they also have some trouble, not as much as France, but still... I'm not following it too closely so I couldn't judge the situation really and predict how they will preform.
His defensive skills weren't tested too much, true, but it's nice to see he can go forward well and do some good things. I mean, nice IF we would sign him. But he played a good game.

i agree we were lucky to not get the red cad, but the ref still made a call. might not have handed out a red card...but he did make a call (if i remember the play correctly).
no US player was doing anything wrong when the penalty was called at the end of the game (which will be debated forever because the ref won't say what he actually called). i think that's where the big difference is.
i will say this...after watching the whole game it didn't surprise me when he made the call that disallowed the goal. he did a very poor job from start to finish (against both teams). you could obviously tell he was way over his head. he did poorly for both teams.

I did notice it but didn't think it was that big a deal. certainly too light to be a "punch". the ref expert here said it would've been a yellow maximum (cause it wasn't intended to hurt/injure the player) had the ref seen it, so I don't think villa will be suspended.

Italy-Slovakia will at least have a good ref -- Howard Webb will be in charge of the game.
England-Slovenia will be refereed by Wolfgang Stark of Germany.
US-Algeria will be refereed by Franck De Bleeckere of Belgium.
Germany-Ghana will be refereed by Carlos Simon of Brazil.
Australia-Serbia will be refereed by Jorge Larrionda of Uruguay.
