Interesting. La Gazzetta has this probabile line-up for tomorrow:
Abbiati
Bonera - Nesta - Sokratis - Antonini
Boateng - Pirlo - Flamini
Robinho
Pato - Ibrahimovic
Please god, let it be so!

Am I the only one who has watched Robinho play?
He is not a trequartista. That lineup will result in Flam/Boa/Robinho simply passing the ball forward and hoping Pato/Ibra come up with something.
We might even win, but I don't really see it as a functional formation. I'd much rather have Dinho instead, or Seedorf even.

Oct 25 2010, 03:58 AM
It'll just turn into a 4-3-3 anyway. Robinho will naturally move out to the left because that's where he usually plays, then Pato will end up pushing out right because that's where he'll find space as we have nobody else there.

Well I guess that formation will finally show us if KPB is any good creatively or if he's just a footballing powerhouse - a poor man's Michael Essien.
I think there will be more defensive balance. But the lack of a genuine No.10 is hurting us. Talk to Benfica and get Rui back on loan.
Like
Gianfranco I think we should really shift to the 3-5-2...but Allegri's press conference has depressed me even further.
Milan to lose 2-0. Really... a 3 man midfield against a 5/6 midfield??!! WTF??!!
So Max's tests are: RM, Napoli, Juve, RM, Inter...he's got to show a marked improvement. So far he's flunked the first exam.
God please...I really rated this guy...but he's got to stop this obsession with the 3 man mid field.

Agreed, which is what I kept talking about when I said that Dinho needs to play. The chance has now presented itself with Dinho being injured. Let's see if I'm proved right...
Imo, until we get a genuine AM Dinho needs to play, Robinho is not a trequartista, and like you said, he'll push over to the left, thus Pato gets pushed to the right as a result.
We can draw a million sketches about how we'd line up with a Pato, Ibra, Robinho trident, but I know that we'll end up playing a 4-3-3 on the pitch.

It's perfect. We have to get rid of this idea that a team can't play without a proper
trequartisa. Inter only have Sneijder as a creative mid yet they've won everything. We have Pirlo for that matter. Besides, it's not like Ibra, Robinho or even Boateng don't have quality in their feet. The important thing is that we have a fast and strong line-up enough to endure games against teams like Napoli. In today's modern football, that is more necessary than quality, which we still have anyway.
Jack Sparrow
Oct 25 2010, 09:43 AM
I actually think Sneijder is a brilliant treqqie. He was the best Seedorf replacement. If Pirlo is moved out of central mid-field, I don't see how the ball is gonna reach the front three, except without one of them dropping deep.
You either get defensive balance or offensive balance..never both with our 3 man mid-field options. We can talk till the sun goes down about how our wing forwards must track back and cut space etc. etc. but that's not really going to happen much.
We'll see though if KPB is as good as we'd like him to be. He must be at least 80% as good as Essien if this needs to work.

For the millionth time:

Are you saying this line-up doesn't have quality? Then what about Pirlo, Boateng, Robinho and Ibra? Sure, they're no proper
trequartista's, so what? That doesn't change much from my point of view. The fact remains that it has speed, physical strength, quality and experience, all ingredients necessary to win an important game.
Jack Sparrow

Just like everyone else, i am really anxious to see this boateng-pirlo-flamini midfield, it has a lot of potential and I hope it works in practice.
I am just so sick of Seedorf and have been for a good 3 years now and just watching him gives me a headache and I just don't enjoy watching my team when he is on the field. He is the soccer equivalent of a dole bludger.... he gets paid to do nothing and its not fair for the younger players who are trying to develop their careers.
As always I am very optimistic that we will play well and I hope I don't get proven wrong once again.

The game in which we scored 2 goals within the first 5 minutes but somehow managed to drop 2 points in the end...
I repeat: MUST. WIN.
But...
I don't think we'll win. we're down after the Madrid defeat and, it's Napoli at San Paolo. tough task. I can already see Cavani and Lavezzi running rings around our amazing backline (with the exception of Nesta, of course. but he can't do much when he plays next to 2-3 geeks...)

I wouldn't call either Yepes or Sokratis geeks. Give them a chance, like everyone else gives Flamini and Boateng the same.

Sokratis? who said anything about Sokratis?

it seems he will never get a chance as long as Max is here.
Yepes? he's old and hasn't played in a competitive match in a long time. it doesn't matter if he was awesome with Chievo. at this age, he needs to play consistently or he will lose form.

I agree with Zed. Sokratis is much more reliable than Yepes, who's also rather slow and could be eaten alive by Napoli's strikers.

You guys shouldn't talk about Seedorf like that... Yes, he's no longer able to play 90 minutes with the same intensity as before, but he's hardly worth all the bad mouthing he's getting here. He's one of the club's foremost icons in this last decade, a vital piece of this team, and deserves our respect.
acid911
Oct 25 2010, 05:11 PM
Oh boy.

Here we go!
See, there is no doubting Seedorf's talents, and more so, what he has done for the club over the years. That was never the question. It's his distinct lack of trying (sure his body is partly to blame for this), and just rolling with things. Laziness and apathy for the loss of better words.

He sees other guys chilling in for the free ride, and he does the same, because he knows he can get away with it. When was the last time you saw him do anything special? Years and seasons for me.
Paolo Maldini, for me, was the best player of well eternity and all times (past and future). But he never came across as he did not care about a match. If he did, then I'd be the first person pissed.

People take time out, skip classes, pay money, stay late at night to see a good performance from the team and its players. The last thing they want is a vanilla pie to their face, seeing indifferent players. Winning every time is not necessary. Playing and always trying to win is. FACT.

Totally agree, especially the part about 90 minutes, he should play the last 20 mins and there he can be dangerous and in that way we can have the most out of seedorf, an excellent game , but for 20 mins, not anymore 90!
When comes to todays game i will give Sokratis a chance to play 90 mins alongside nesta that can guide him through the game and i am sure he will prove his quality. For the mid side and attack i am happy that today KPB will start, i would like to see him alongside flamini and pirlo (like everyone here i guess) but i am happy that way too, genaro will play flaminis role and this is it, not us goo i guess but ok, nothing is perfect

! And finnaly i think binho will get us the victory today, he will shine!

Sorry for the double post but I just had to say this:
We as fans don't deserve the disrespect he puts up most matches! Part of the blame should fall on the coach's shoulders, he should know better than to burn out veteran players. Just put them in after the 60 minute mark.
Other than that you have valid points! Yours was a general comment, after all.

And I agree with it, it's just that respect is a two way street. And it's not just for Seedorf, remember me saying that everyone should earn their pudding. When you factor in the ages of all our 30+ players, and take everything into context, you know some are just slacking off. Their efforts are not proportionate to their talents, they don't even do their experience justice. And that's a slap on the face of everyone. And I mean everyone!

So in your opinion a guy who knows he can't perform at a required level, and still insists on starting, and makes faces when he is subbed, shows up in a few matches every season (and that too if he is in the mood), slows down our game and attack is right, and those who question his place and want him to improve (or at least try to) are wrong?
I am not asking him to be sold, or even benched nor am I in the camp that attach the F word to player names, you know the drill at other football forums and blogs.

No one deserves that, at least no football player alive. And neither is it my decision to make let's leave it to the coach and management. But at the end of the day I know that Seedorf is a professional player, doing a job and getting paid for it. I can only hope that he does too.
