As people might have seen, we've been besieged by bots in the last couple of weeks.
For the time being, we moderators are going to attempt to stem the flood by temporarily suspending posting privileges of new boardmembers suspected of being bots.
If you're a real new boardmember not interested in spamming the board, don't worry. We can reinstate posting privileges for you.

We've noticed that the bots seem to be spending a lot of time looking at member profiles. To be safe, you may want to consider removing your email address from your public profile for the time being.

Quite a few seem to have done. It's definitely spam (the link apparently takes you to a viagra for sale site, there may also be adware stuff too) so DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK.

I did. Thought it was odd - the message was just a link saying "Please help". I hovered over it to see what the link was, but didn't click on it.
Went on his/her profile & it said they'd registered yesterday, hadn't posted & was from Afghanistan!
A few other members had visited too - hope they didn't click on the link either...
Checked the new posts in My Assistant (which was already open from the PM alert) & found this thread.

Since I'm not on as often as I used to be, I wasn't aware of the spamming issue (and the issue in this 'bot' thread)
I just deleted the message promptly not taking into account the name of the user though...
On the up side I haven't gotten any since
