I don't want us to win the CL again this season. Mostly because I believe there would be no important signings if we did. We'd be the first team to win the CL (in it's current form) two times in a row. But that doesn't mean much to me cause we have been not competing for the scudetto in either of these two seasons. I'd rather see us fight for both titles next season (even if we lose) than win the CL in Moscow and then have another miserable season, which I believe is what would happen!
*

Not even for Maldini's sake? To se him ending his career with the CL trophy one more time would be marvelous...
I'm very positive that our transfer policy does not depend on wether we win or lose the CL title. It's more about Carlo/our coach. But I get your point...

I'm quite sure Carlo asked for a couple more signings in the summer! Edit: last summer...

I'd get the ex-Inter, Frey. The best GK in Italy, will be 28 in 2008...

Release Dida, Kalac and Fiori and put a Primavera one as Frey's sub. This for 2008/09. I'm tired of grandpa's.

it's amazing frey hasnt been called up for france, domenech obviously has it in for serie a which is pretty pathetic.

for me i would like to see frey, he's matrued into a great Gker and i we could get a good 4 years out of him.

but personally i want a Gker that we could keep for 9-10 years, a long term thing so my first choice would be akinfeev.

For what it's worth, as far as  a possible new keeper goes, while I do think Boruc is good, there's something that niggles about his personality and I'm not quite sure he's Milan-quality either in terms of his abilities or in terms of his personality.

I'd prefer one of the German boys, Frey, Akinfeev, Ochoa, or maybe even Curci.
*

You're right about his personality, he wouldn't really fit in, he'll speak his mind and has got himself into trouble a few times like that.

Frey was called up against Ukraine but let in a really soft header from Sheva that was in no danger of troubling the net. He made a one handed collect, but somehow palmed it into his own net. Terrible mistake, and Domench just lost confidence in him.

Then again this is the same Domenech who ignore Trezegol due to a petty feud

I don't think we'll be able to get anyone atm. I can't see any of the real world class goalkeepers leave their respective teams atm. Not even Frey, who I'm sure Fiorentina won't sell, especially in January, and let's face it, if we want to actually do something useful this season we need Dida to be removed as soon as possible.

But we do still have Abbiati, who imo is a good keeper and much more stable then Dida atm.

I think we should call him back from Atletico as a temporary replacement until we get someone else that can fill the position better

Abbiati Wants To Extend Atlético Stay

Christian Abbiati has revealed that he would like to extend his stay at Atlético de Madrid for a second season after adapting to life in Spain quicker than he expected.

The 30-year-old is on loan for the current campaign from AC Milan and is revelling in his new surroundings after an injury to Leo Franco saw him given a regular run in the side.

While he is due to return to Italy in the summer, Abbiati has admitted that if the chance to stay at Vicente Calderón for longer came up, then he would take it.

"I would like to stay for another year in the Spanish league. I would also love to win a trophy," he explained.

"My adaptation has gone better than I expected. I am happy at this club because they have helped me so much.

"I like playing in Spain and I think I will learn a lot during the time that I have left here."

One element that has surprised Abbiati is how together all the players in the Atlético squad have become and confidence is sky high.

"The squad is very united and I have been made very welcome by the team. We feel that we are capable of beating any team in any stadium," he added.

Abbiati joined AC Milan in 1998 and played 111 times for the club before having loan spells at Juventus and Torino in the past couple of years.

Won't happen. Dida won't move before June and he might still be with us next season too. We're surely getting a new defender and if we go for oveR20rated too then it will be more than enough.

Not the only one, I think he is a good keeper that can make the spectacular save but is also prone to make the odd blunder here and there.

He's more of a Dida 03/04 level then anything else.

Just think that he is the only realistic option we have.

Dida can sit on the bench for the rest of the season. If Abbiati was still here he would have been benched a long time ago. Carlo just keeps on talking about having faith in him because he knows there is no realistic alternative to him currently available so he has no choice but to try and encourage him by staying behind him.

FWIW, I saw Ochoa a couple of times during the Copa America, where he was playing for the Mexican NT. He really impressed me there. My first choice would be Rene Adler. He's the perfect goalie for the 21st century IMO. He's playing very very consistent, no goofs, has great reflexes, is good when it comes to open the game.
I don't expect us to sign him though. Amelia nad Frey are much more likely. Frey is great too, I'm not so sure about Amelias class.

Milan Line Up Flamengo Goalkeeper Bruno

AC Milan are tinkering with the idea of replacing the under-fire Nelson Dida with Flamengo goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes, according to Tuttosport.

Dida has had a simply disastrous season, costing his side dearly with a huge catalogue of errors.

The most recent of these mistakes came in the Milan derby when Esteban Cambiasso scored the winner for Inter when his harmless shot somehow found its way past the Brazilian.

Milan are certain to replace Dida at the end of the season and this has seen them linked to a host of top goalkeepers, including Sebastien Frey, Artur Boruc, Alexander Doni and Gomes.

However a lesser known name has now entered the equation in the form of Flamengo’s Bruno Fernandes.

The 23-year-old is on-loan at the Rio de Janeiro-based club from Atletico Mineiro and has impressed the Milan hierarchy with a series of fine performances this year.

Rossoneri chiefs Ariedo Braida and Leonardo have both made first-hand checks on the player recently and could soon firm this up with an official transfer bid.

There are already a large number of Brazilian goalkeepers in Serie A, with the likes of Julio Cesar at Inter, Doni at Roma, and Rubinho at Genoa.

Landreau To Replace Dida?

Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Mikael Landreau could replace Nelson Dida at Milan this month, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Despite their public notes of support, the Rossoneri have finally decided that Dida’s time at the club is up, following a host of catastrophic errors.

It was originally believed that, due to the lack of viable alternatives in the January transfer market, Dida would remain as Milan’s No.1 until the end of the season.

He would then be replaced by either Fiorentina’s Sebastien Frey, Celtic’s Artur Boruc or possibly PSV Eindhoven’s Gomes.

However PSG have now offered France international goalkeeper Mikael Landreau to Milan.

The 28-year-old was once regarded as one of the most promising young shot-stoppers in Europe when he burst onto the scene as a teenager with Nantes in the mid-1990s.

However his career has never really taken off as expected, despite a move to PSG in the summer of 2006.

He has won 11 caps for the national side and travelled to the World Cup in Germany.

Unfortunately he is perhaps most remembered with Les Bleus for a horrendous Dida-like error in Paris last September, which allowed James McFadden to score in Scotland’s famous 1-0 victory.

Landreau is a penalty-saving expert and is also eligible to play in the knockout stages of the Champions League should Milan decide to sign him.

I remember a few of us here did mention his name one/two years ago..

He is overrated !! Just that the Italians are looking for a potential successor for Gigi Buffon, and that lime light had been placed on Amelia.

Whether he proves to live up to that standard (Gigi's successor) is yet to be seen.

Thing is, he is too young to be considered for a team like Milan. To be a first team regular you have to be extraordinary in what you do, and Amelia is no extraordinary Gkeeper !!

p.s. You want a Gkeeper in place of Dida, then Buffon would be the ideal pick !

Yeah, he is (but considering all the past Barca keepers - Hesp, Arnau, Bonano, Rüstü, etc. Vicky is the best; with the exemption of Robert Enke)...but altough the Catalans hate Valdes, he's still one of their standard players, and I see no use of replacement for him. Maybe Reina some day,..
Tennie
The reason Barca are going out for a keeper in January is because their #2 has had a bad injury and will be out til next season. So if Amelia wants to go to Barca to sit on the bench, it's up to him.

There're better keepers out there.

NB -- Some of the training reports and/or news reports out of Dubai have indicated that the Primavera keeper (Offredi) has been in very good form indeed.

Exactly.

But I personally can't see us getting Buffon. That window of opportunity was open during the whole Calciopoli thing and we lost it. And I can't see us ever getting a chance like that again at getting him.

Maybe we could tempt Cech away from Chelsea, they aren't in a good place atm, and if we push really hard for him I can see us probably getting him. It's a big if though. But there are only a small handfull of really top class goalkeepers out there and Cech is probably the only one we could have a hope of ever getting
Jack Sparrow
Cech...no, he's inviolate.

We're dealing with Abramovich anyway. And we can't offer Cech anything, that Chelsea can't. Except the Serie A title. rolleyes.gif

I think it's about time, we went about developing our own Casillas. I don't mean he has to come from the youth ranks (though 10ie looks set to call dibs upon Offredi), but we need someone young soon, I don't care what nationality. As long as he can last 10 years.

Until then get someone steady. If Dida gets his confidence back (which I suspect he will, if only he'd have a strong defence, which I suspect he will if only we had a confident attack), we should probably stick to it.
LaPalma
We obviously can't sign any of the top 3 GKs in the world. Cech, Casillas and Gigi won't be sold by their respective clubs. IMO they're by a big margin the best in the world.
We should sign a promising youngster with the potential to make it to the top IMO...someone like Neuer, Akinfeev or Adler. If there's someone within our youth that has potential...even better.
Tennie
If we do go for a foreign keeper, my vote is still for Adler. He's quite young (which may mean Milan aren't looking at him) but he's absolutely amazing.

And I've only seen Offredi play once but he actually did look good and hey...it's nice to see a primavera player coming up to the first team. He apparently did well in training on the trip to Dubai too (with no offense to BMW, in the articles I read, apparently Offredi did better than any of the first team keepers).
Rossoneri7
@LaPalma .. I think we'd be in Lala Land if we dazed upon the idea that Milan will sign someone young for the Gkeeper slot (unless he's exceptional) wink.gif

He would have to be world class or at least show the potential to, at least.

Talkin about Adler or Amelia .. mm as Tennie would say, fanatacalcio to an extent. It's fantasy really.
Tennie
R7, try to catch a Leverkusen game when the Bundesliga resumes. I really do think that Adler shows world class potential. But yeah, there may be an element to fantacalcio about our collective desire for a very young keeper.

Milan has never been that strong on the goalkeeper front. And I can't see us producing one now when our primavera isn't producing any type of players like it had in the past

But from the top 3 keepers in the world who are Cech, Gigi and Casillas, Cech is the only one I can see us getting by a long shot if we push hard enough. He's the only one who is not playign for a truely big club and Chelsea with all their money have still been eluded by one trophy time and time again, a trophy that seems on the other hand to love Milan. The CL. I think thats temptation enough, add to that the $$$$ signs and I think we could get him

Of course Chelsea don't need the money. It's just up to whether Abra would let him go or not. If Sheva still loves Milan (in English now of course) the he could help with that... he could give head to his master then we'd be pretty close! Otherwise...

Adler is really a special GK though (the chances that Milan might sign him are almost zero though...)
Fillipo Simone
With all respect, but Chech get's a bit too much injuried for the last 2 seasons. And I don't see such a thing happen. But we can offer Chech something Chelsea did not - it's a CL title for GS...

Buffon on the other side,..well..it's not all over yet. He's still "young", and although he decided to stay with Juve in Serie B, he might soon realize that he's probably the best keeper of the decade and the only major trophy he hasn't won yet is the CL. That's were Milan steps right in. And if, if we can bring back some of the old Juve players (I'm not just talking about Zambro, IMO Cannavaro and Thuram could be ours as well), he'll feel right at home.

Anyway, there are some young keepers - Adler - like Tennie said, who have emense potential. Also Neuer and some others as well. But I can't see us signing a young keeper as well, especially not a foreign. Maybe, a South American one (please no!!),...So, there is not much hope to see us sign Akinfeev, Neuer, Rensing, etc.

But Italy has some keepers I do rate high, or at least have a good opinion, like:
Frey from Fiorentina, Amelia and De Lucia from Livorno, Curci from Roma, Castellazzi from Sampdoria and Sereni from Torino. Does keepers I rate, but only Frey and Curci have class to make it as Milan No.1

From the other Euro-leagues I would consider: Robert Enke (Hannover) and Roman Weidenfeller (BVB) from Germany and Mikaël Landreau (PSG) from France

Milan Eye Up Three Replacements For Dida - Report

Zeljko Kalac will stay at Milan next season, but Nelson Dida’s future is in doubt after Diego Alves, Diego Lopez and Hugo Lloris were all linked with a summer move to the club.

The Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Kalac’s outstanding recent performances have all but booked his place in the Rossoneri’s squad for 2008/09.

The giant Australian has now replaced Dida as the club’s number one and was again in brilliant form in Sunday’s 1-0 win at Fiorentina, making a wonder save in injury time to deny Alessandro Gamberini’s close-range header.

Dida’s future at the club is less secure after a nightmare campaign in which he has been guilty of a catalogue of blunders.

Milan are said to be closely monitoring Almeria goalkeeper Diego Alves. The Brazilian has been in simply stunning form of late, keeping four clean sheets on the trot during his side’s consecutive wins against Espanyol, Deportivo, Valencia and Real Madrid.

The Rossoneri are also eyeing up Villarreal’s Diego Lopez. The 26-year-old only signed for the Yellow-Submarines from Real Madrid last summer, but he is admired by the Milan technical staff.

The last name linked as a possible replacement for Dida is Nice’s Hugo Lloris. The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to Milan in the Italian press quite consistently over the past week or so.

Keepers from Almeria, Villareal and Nice? Somehow not the Milan way. I doubt this would happen.

Anyone watch French football? Lloris looks promising.

Milan Want Lazio-Bound Carrizo - Report
AC Milan would like to sign River Plate’s Lazio-bound goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

The 23-year-old was due to sign for Lazio from the Argentine giants last summer, however the move stalled after issues arose concerning the player’s Italian citizenship.

Carrizo claimed to have an Italian great grandfather, which would have allowed him to be registered as a non-EU player.

This was rejected, but attempts were again made for Carrizo to officially complete his move in January, and the player even announced that he would be a Lazio player by the end of the transfer window.

All the paperwork could not be sorted out, meaning that Carrizo will have to wait until this summer before eventually settling down in the Eternal City.

However, according to the Corriere, Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani has contacted Lazio about the possibility of the Rossoneri taking Carrizo instead. Milan are looking for a new number one, as Nelson Dida is set to leave, while doubts still remain over the reliability of Zeljko Kalac.

It remains highly unlikely that Lazio President Claudio Lotito would contemplate selling Carrizo to Milan given the transfer saga involving the player since last summer.
