we'll we certainly deserved the win everyone played well especially in the 2nd except for dida.
my only real concerns is what were gonna do if inzaghi dint score? lets say

theres 20 min and we need to make an attacking sub?? we have nothing...we need ronaldo to be fit for most of the season

and my other concern is dida playing for milan, made a mess of every situation.

Euro: Super Milan champions of Europe

Milan have won the European Super Cup 3-1 over Sevilla on an emotional night in Monaco, including Marek Jankulovski’s stunning strike.

Both clubs have been here before, but this was a game like no other. Tragedy hung over the 2007 European Super Cup after the death of 22-year-old Sevilla player Antonio Puerta this week from multiple cardiac arrests.

UEFA and Sevilla insisted the tie go ahead “as a tribute to Puerta” and all the team shirts had ‘Puerta’ written on them under the squad numbers. The minute’s absolute silence and black armbands also marked the deceased player.

Sevilla were hoping to win this trophy for the second consecutive year, while Champions League holders Milan aimed for a record fifth triumph. Ronaldo and Paolo Maldini were injured, but Nelson Dida recovered to start and Emerson had his first spot on the bench. Christian Poulsen surprisingly played central defence for the Spaniards.

In the first three minutes a woeful Massimo Oddo clearance was struck wide by Renato, but Milan went even closer moments later.

Pippo Inzaghi sprung the offside trap on Clarence Seedorf’s through ball and cut back past Poulsen, but Kaka pounced and thumped the upright from six yards. The Brazilian – top scorer in last year’s Champions League and this week voted Player of the Tournament – should perhaps have left it to Inzaghi.

Rino Gattuso was first into the book for a late tackle on Jesus Navas, while Oddo’s first touch let him down on an inspired Andrea Pirlo pass over the defence.

It was Sevilla who took the lead against the run of play. Marek Jankulovski gave away a needless corner and from that kick Dida was stuck in no man’s land, allowing Renato to prod it over the line from point-blank range. The entire Sevilla side came together in a circle and pointed at the sky, honouring their fallen teammate.

The Rossoneri defence was struggling with several misplaced passes and Duda just failed to get on the end of a Freddie Kanoute’ assist. There was absolute chaos on 23 minutes when a couple of defensive errors left Kanoute’ clear on goal and cut back for Renato, but Alessandro Nesta performed a decisive goalline clearance to keep the score at 1-0.

Kaka sparked a move that Poulsen intercepted before Gattuso could set up Inzaghi. Incredibly, a corner kick was touched on by Nesta and Seedorf’s diving free header was over from six yards.

Jankulovski wasted a golden opportunity from Massimo Ambrosini’s left-flank low cross, but Kanoute’ was given far too much space to turn and smash a right-foot shot wide.

Poulsen’s sliding tackle saved a certain goal on the stroke of half-time, as Pirlo’s slide-rule pass had sent Ambrosini clear, but the Dane plucked the ball off his foot as he pulled the trigger. Palop rushed out to block another fine Pirlo assist for Inzaghi.

Super Pippo hit the back of the net in first half stoppages from a Seedorf through ball, but it was disallowed for a tight offside decision. In a beautiful gesture during the break, a Milan banner hailing Puerta was passed along to the Sevilla end of the Stade Louis II in Monaco.

Seedorf went for glory rather than passing to Inzaghi and Ambrosini’s long-range effort was deflected out. From the resulting corner, Pirlo’s backheel sent Gattuso down the right and his cross found Inzaghi’s precise free header at the back post.

Sevilla had been under pressure since the restart, but Kanoute’s cross was just too powerful for Duda. Gattuso needed to be patched up after an accidental elbow from Keita left him with a deep cut over his eye. He insisted on carrying on even with a huge bandage covering the top of his face and it later emerged he required four or five stitches.

Milan were in control now and took the lead on the hour mark with a stunning goal from Jankulovski. The left-back clipped a brilliant low volley from Pirlo’s inspired long cross-field ball, at a precise angle into the far bottom corner. It was the Czech’s first ever European club goal.

Sevilla threw on forward Kerzhakov, but only a brilliant Poulsen tackle stopped Kaka running end to end. Gattuso was finally convinced to leave the field due to his head injury and gave Emerson his debut.

Enzo Maresca replaced Duda and took a central role for the final push, but Keita nodded a corner kick over from six yards. Substitute Luis Fabiano also failed to make the most of a promising opportunity.

However, another divine Pirlo crossfield pass found Kaka and Dragutinovic mistimed his tackle to snap at the Brazilian’s ankle. Kaka took the penalty himself and it was saved by Palop, but the ball ricocheted off his face and back on to the Milan man’s head. The goal was scored under the Sevilla end and Kaka celebrated by pointing to the ‘Puerta’ name on the back of his shirt.

Seedorf went off as a substitute and also held up the shirt with only Puerta’s name showing to the entire crowd. Milan had suggested postponing this European Super Cup, but agreed to go ahead only if Sevilla wanted it.

It was nearly 3-2 in stoppages as Kerzhakov nodded the ball across the face of goal where Maresca hit the post from point-blank range.

Dida didn't have the best of games that is true but this is only the 2nd competitive game of the season and we know about Dida and his lapse's but what can you say when we have again have loaned Abbati who i believe given a run of games is a very good if not great keeper.

We played very well, especially without a strong influence from kaka'.

Game was played with good spirit, great tribute to puerta.

Who was man of the match? Pirlo?

If anyone can get some photos up would be great.

FORZA MILAN!

Grande Milan!!!!!!!!!!!!! devil.gif

Very good performance especially in the second half. True class, that was the first time I've seen Sevilla blocked so efficiently by any team!! Ancelotti made some very important redistributions in of places and more importantly charges! My opinion about him has changed completely in less than a year! I didn't expect it to be honest!

Very very good performance by every single one of our players tonight! I don't want to exclude Dida and please spare his some time, it was just a game!

Really great team display, in the first half we were a bit out there and misplacing a couple of passes but during the break Carlo analyzied what needed to be done and we came out and played a tremendous second half. Also the gestures our players made towards the Sevilla support was beutiful to see, absolute class. king.gif king.gif

Ratings:

Dida: 5.5 - When the ball is on the ground he is great, and he's an amazing shot stopper, but when that ball is floted in the air and Dida is having one of his bad days then my heart stops until that ball is removed from our box. And today was one of his bad days I'm afraid, Sevilla have a lot of tall players and they were using their height advantage to the max, and Dida made a couple of errors, other then that Nesta made sure that he didn't have anything to do fr practically the entire second half

Oddo: 6.5 - Again made some amazing runs down the flanks, he helps us open up play amazingly well on the right, the only reason I didn't give him a seven is because he made 2 bad clearances that could have cost us.

Nesta: 9 - What is there to say about Allessandro? king.gif king.gif Rock solid.

Kaladze: 7 - You are made to look good when the guy playing next to you is Nesta, but he was solid, he did let Kanoute get the better of him on arial balls a couple of times though. And someone should tell him to stop watching tapes of Baresi, sometimes he attempts outrages passes from dangerous places that never work rolleyes.gif

Janku: 7.5 - Did good in defence and scored our winner, he didn't do much on the flanks but he was pretty occupied because of Alves and Navas so it was still a very good performance from him.

Ambro: 7.5 - As always, solid and reliable, won a lot of balls.

Pirlo: 9.5 - A tear came to my eye watching him play today, it was like seeing the Pirlo of 02/03 03/04 back in front of me after him being absent for so long. That floated through ball to Janku and the backheal to Rino before Pippo's goal where simply genius inspired. My MOM

Rino: 7 - Was very quite in the first half but came alive in the second, too bad he got injured.

Kaka: 6.5 - Made some good runs and passes but other then that he had a pretty quite night.

Seedorf: 6.5 - Same as Kaka.

Pipp: 7 - As Corla said he is an immortal. biggrin.gif

Subs:

Emerson: 6 - Didn't have much to do but managed to win a couple of balls and make some nice passes. He is a different option to Rino, he might not have as much grit and passion, but he is clever, strong, and has more technical ability then Rino, he will come out handy for us this season.

Gila: N/A

Brocchi: N/A

Great game ragazzi!! WHAT A GOAL!!
Pirlo is surely the best midfielder for vision, crossing, free kicks and most of all technique.
Jankulovski wanted to make up for his error on giving sevilla the corner that they scored... tongue.gif
Kaka' - what an I say!!
Inzaghi - He kept going didnt he? A PROVEN striker, hopefully Pato is not only the next footballer with Kaka' like qualities, I want Pato to have the eye for goal like Inzaghi!

We played with great respect throughout and Im proud of our team smile.gif
When Kaka' scored i thought that he was being arrogant pointing to his name on the back of his shirt but then I realised he scored at the sevilla end and was pointing to puerta's, as an act of respect.
Kaka' is the not only the best player in the world, but is probably the most gentlemanlike player in the world. Unlike ronaldinho...
Grazie Ragazzi!!

What did Alves do? Little...

What did Navas do? Nothing...

He blocked two great players with little help... he had to defend a lot and even then he scored a goal out of nowhere. A defender does NOT have to do sliding tackles all the time to be good, if he's covering up his space and being a step ahead of the attacker, he's silent and he's equally effective! If you have the zest/will/time to watch the game again notice his play and you'll see what I'm talking about...

Jankulovski is very hard working. I really appreciate the focus and dedication he has brought with him ever since we signed him.

Seedorf's gesture of taking his shirt off and showing Puertas's name on it. PRICELESS!!!

These are the things that make me proud of being a Milan fan.

THIS SHOWS CLASS!!!

At the end ... after the victory picture with the trophy ... MALDINI gathering and shouting at his teamates (not a bad thing I just think he wanted to keep the celebration within the respect line) ... also PRICELESS!!!

Il Capitano is just Il Capitano in the field ... wether he plays or not ...

Who saw Emerson jumping on Kalac's back ..... I think he already feels confortable in AC Milan.

WHO SAW RONALDO ...... they tell me it was that skinny guy with an afro ... WAS THAT REALLY HIM?????? I can't wait to see him back.

My only worry is that I hope our team is able to rotate the players enough to give everybody some rest ..... the season is going to be loooooooong.

I honestly think this team is going to get even closer this season .... I can see Kaká taking them to church and praying with them. Il Cardinale Kaká!

Berlusconi: We are the best

President Silvio Berlusconi was beaming with pride after Milan became the most successful club side in the history of world football.

The 3-1 win over Sevilla earned them the European Super Cup last night – their 17th international trophy.

“We are satisfied with the victory. Now we are the most successful club in the world with more silverware than any other, overtaking Boca Juniors,” said the patron.

The Rossoneri will take on Boca Juniors for the Club World Cup – formerly known as the Intercontinental Cup – in Tokyo in December.

“I am also now the most successful President in the history of Milan. I am happy about that.”

However, the celebrations at the Stade Louis II in Monaco were muted following the death of Sevilla player Antonio Puerta earlier this week.

“The atmosphere within the squad and the locker room was very different. One could not sense that competitive fire that is usually present in a Final and it was evident in the first half on the field, too.”

Sevilla were leading 1-0 at the break, but Milan rediscovered their form in the second period, overturning the result with Pippo Inzaghi, Marek Jankulovski and Kaka.

“When a colleague dies it affects us all in this sport, especially the players,” added Berlusconi. “Of course we dedicate the trophy to Puerta.” king.gif
