Just got home from work and seen the score smile.gif about time too, although good old carlo still made his usual changes rolleyes.gif . At least he had the sense to field Gila and Oli together...

I cannot believe the slating Gila is getting? although he doesn't score he always seems to give 110%. At least he doesn't dawdle around with the ball like Seedorf! at the moment Gila is suffering a real lack of confidence and should be playing the full 90 mins. Sometimes forwards seem to go through lean spells then they return prolific - only time will tell devilsmiley.gif

The problem isn't really with us fielding him; the problem is that he is costing us the game .. This game, I'm glade we won .. But other games, he has to score !

This is getting really serious !!! The more he takes the pitch (..the more he gains confidence .. ?! ) the more he is costing us the game, IMO.

It was a pretty good game by us, we missed so many chances that if we scored at least half of them the result would be something like 0-3. I really liked Simic, he keeps impressing me, and Janku was very good too. Great goal that was. We controled the match, had so many occasions while Chievo only had that double miss with Tiribochi and Semioli. But in overall, this was a very good match by us in attendance of the derby. As for the Gila case, I have to agree with han. He looked sharp tonight, worked a lot and if he would have been a little more careful he might have scored that damn goal. But if we're talking about wasted goals, then I think you should go and blame Kakà and Borriello too, as they missed clear goal occasions aswell. As I said, if Gila keeps playing like this, he has my total support. Now let's go and get the merda! FORZA MILAN!

Well, you were talking about tonight's performance in the first place. But I gotta give you that 6 months is a lot of time, and Gila's case is getting frustrating week by week, as he said by himself. But the point is Gila has been unlucky in many occasions, we can't deny this fact. I don't wanna justify him by saying this, but the fect is hitting bars on and off isn't something that happens to everybody. Gila is a striker, he needs to score, that's his job. I've always said this, and I will keep saying it. But another fact is Gila plays for the team, he sacrifices himself for the team, and that conditions his play. You know, I also have a friend of mine like you, he actually hates Gila, keeps blaming him all the time. I try to explain him the case, but he won't just listen. All I wanna say is Gila is not some type of Inzaghi or Crespo anymore. He might have been at Parma, but now he is a different player. He plays for the team, sacrifices himself, makes 1-2's with Oli or Ricky to put them in front of the goal, thing he did perfectly tonight. He's a bit inprecise, yes, but still I think he's a Milan class player. We'll just have to wait and the goals will come. If not, the others will score. Sure thing is Gila will keep woring for the team, and that's very important.

I have said all these thinsg myself too... He used to be a favorite of mine and to be honest he still is... But I can't lie to myself anymore... I'm not saying that he is done... he should be shot and put in a coffin... But after seeing him strugle badly in the Cl last year... I said to myself... That's just temorery... He will come back and he will start scoring in no time... But he did the exact opposite... And he still hasn't scored one single goal... Even in Serie A... You are saying that he sacrifices for the team... But what is his sacrifice worth when him not scoring is costing us game after game... To the point where we have to rely on our midfield or sometimes defense to create something... I'm sure you wanna say that Inzaghi misses a lot too... But just look how much he helped us last year in the CL and this year in the peliminary round... He contributed by scoring important goals... Not just by fighting on the field... Because that's what strikers do... It's Gattuso's job to fight for the team and sacrifice himself... You know what I'm saying??

Yeah, I know what you're saying, and you're right. Pippo helped us a lot last year, he was our saviour. Gila needs to score, I said it above. But I also said he plays for the team. By that I don't mean he fights like Rinho or Brocchi. They are the engine of our midfield, especially Rinho where you can find him anywhere on the pitch. But Gila has a different job. He has to play outside the box now, cause he has to combine with the midfielders and the other forward. He links our midfield with our attack, but he also makes part of this attack. Now, he's been doing this job very good so far, but, he has not scored since a long while, and that's what he has to improve. From my point of view, Gila only makes 1/2 of his job. He has to start scoring, and that's just a matter of time I guess. He's been very close to the goal in the last matches, that's a good signal I would say.

Yeah I agree

Everyones all about Forza Gila, but he hasn't earned anything so far. Our defenders are out scoring him.

A poor run of form? He didn't score in the CL last season and this season. 8 games now in scudetto and no goal. he did score 16 last which is good but most were when we were winning 3-0 against weak teams.

If it wasn't for the 3 teams with negative points, Chievo would be in the relegation zone right now.

I don't see a 1-0 win to the weakest team in serie A as really that great of a truimph
Its not even about winning its about potential with me. And this team is at 30% of what it could be doing.

I tend to blame the management for not being aggressive with acquiring new players. They could have traded Scheva for Drogba. They could have done many things in the past 2 transfer windows.

Its just so hard to watch especially because last season our offense was unstoppable.
Our defense had its patches and Dida had his days, but overall we were solid all around.

What the hell does that supposed to mean?? Gila hasn't scored for Milan in over 8 months or something... I mean not at least one moment of magic... If Kaka missed a lot of chances today, and he is not even a striker, he will score in another game... Quality will shine through no matter what... And I'm afraid Gila lacks quality... He has had his chances...
*

Gila definately doesn't lack quality, and about the Kaka issue, since when does Kaka miss chances like that, it's not just the Gila mentality, it's the whole team, Kaka had an open goal chance also and waisted it.

This is not about Milan... this is about Gila... And all the people that can't admit he is no Milan class... I like him... But he should play for Fiorentina or Roma... Not Milan... Just because he is a hard worker doesn't mean he is a class player... Suazo scores a lot of goals for Cagilari... But that doesn't make him Milan class... Same with Gila... He scored a lot for Parma and now people think he is class.. while clearly.. he is not...
*

When a striker typically scores around 24 goals per season then I would sy he is Milan quality not Fiorentina and Roma.

And what do you actually call Milan class?? Gila has all the class in the world, class doesn't mean just scoring goals by tap ins, it means class on and off the pitch, keeping a cool head and performing for the team, all qualities Gila has.

Do you see him going around whining to the press when Carlo doesn't play him, like Zlatan and Adriano, NOO!!

That is class

QUOTE (mishie @ Oct 25 2006, 08:47 PM)
where were these comments last season? he is class no doubt but like i said you could have a ibra lots of class no work rate! as long as he keeps trying and working for the team he gets my support until that happens i won't complain about him
*

Ibra has no class, since when does a player who spits at other players and grab them by the neck has class, he has all the talent in the world at his feet yes but he is definately classless.

It's just a matter of what you define by the word class, and for me, class is more then just scoring goals or doing fancy tricks.

And obviously, you didn't see all the great plays he created with his passes to Kaka and Oli. If you are going to criticise him you should look at the whole picture not the bad miss, which by the way was his only bad miss, he looked sharp throughout the whole match. If we are going to slay anyone for bad misses it should be Kaka and Boriello. Kaka the most, I can't count the number of time he was through on goal alone with the keeper and missed.

How exactly is it costing us the game?? Defenders doing idiotic mistakes cost you games, one bad miss while we are leading doesn't cost you a match. The other games when he was playing next to Pippo I don't count because he wasn't even getting the chances, let alone waste them.

Glad you don't just look at the situation as black and white. ONE bad miss and he is being slaughtered by everyone on here. But we forget to look at the positives of how he, Oli and Kaka where linking up with eachother, they where making spaces, clever runs and opening Chievo's defence wide open.

That wasn't as a form of attack on you, I said that in regards to your positive post about the game, it was a bit of a jab taken at you because you have been very negative lately.

But I definately agree with you about the transfers thing, I'v said this a million times during the summer, that if the management don't gradually rebuild the team starting this past summer, then a complete over haul will have to happen next summer or the one after that. Read my post in the transfers section it was in reply to something you posted where I completely agreed with you and pointed out all that would have to be changed come next season.
I_Rossoneri
If I seem negative it's because of what I see. We all know Pippo and Gila don't gel yet carlo persists in playing them together. We chase a lead and carlo swaps Janku for Maldini rolleyes.gif Seedorf just seems to let the game pass him by rather than stamp his authority on it. And Galliani either signs crappy freebies or takes an eternity to sign players who actually want to play for Milan(Gila, Kaka etc). So like I say, if I seem negative that is the reason why.

Spot on.
Jack Sparrow
Actually I think the reason Carlo swapped Janku for Paolo was width. Coz if you saw the match u woulda seen the way Palermo packed the centre of the field(in their half). It's conceivable Carletto thought this would be the only way he could get a goal in namely putting in a fullback.

Also keep in mind, Paolo came on and never really looked like playing an orthodox LB position. He was more of an advanced wingback, and he did make some great crosses, which on that night Janku was not able to do as well as we know he can. Don't forget Paolo did get that shot on goal.

We also can't neglect the fact that as coach for a large club like Milan, you cannot afford to go for broke, like say a smaller club can. If you're 1-0 down in a league match, besides equalizing, you also have the responsiblity of making sure the lead doesn't increase, coz things could make it worse.

The reason we lost came down to 2 silly defensive lapses. One of which was by the best defender in the team and the planet(?). Also don't forget you can say Carletto shoulda introduced more forwards...say who again?

Boriello? Oli came in within a gap of 10 minutes, coz at that point of time the style of play Milan was adopting(when Paolo was brought in) was to crowd the box...and you don't need too much of a footballing IQ to know that when u crowd the box 2 box strikers is what u need.

Now seeing that his midfield was on that day, just so pitifully ineffective(please keep in mind that Carlo must be just as hampered by the lack of ability shown by Seedorf, coz Seedorf is a very central part of that offense, Kaka alone is not good enough), he brought on Oli immediately removing that crowded box strategy.

So essentially he made a new game plan and then he changed it seeing it wasn't going too well, all in the space of 10-15 minutes.

Ergo, Carletto isn't slow, he isn't stupid. You don't win a scudetto and a CL by being that way.(the WC maybe tongue.gif) He is immensely hampered by a lack of form in his star players and a lack of quality in his reserves. He is just too classy to crib about that in public and instead says the team will work hard with what they've got.

In other words, he's being positive and trying to be as harmonious as possible. What's stopping him from washing his hands off the matter and saying, 'Galliani screwed me!'. He knows nobody can raise a counter point, yet he doesn't do that.

If we did erase that point deficit and get through to the CL group stages it was coz of him and his rotation policy. If there is one thing you can blame on Carlo, it is that he is conservative(don't say too much so, if you think a little bit harder, you'll see why!), what would u rather have, a kamikaze??

Would you rather win big and lose a few or win small and not lose much at all. Don't forget Carlo doesn't have an option, he has to take option B, coz of the position Carlo finds himself in. With a weak bench, an aging team and a points deficit, you cannot have ur players exhaust themselves going all out to score big, unfortunately this season we might have to resign ourselves to grinding victories, coz sometimes the points are more important than aesthetics. I know it's a lousy kind of football, but I'll forgive Milan this one season, if we can get a good finish.

Carlo has my vote for this season and the next. Unless Milan get out-thought regularly and not out-played as we have been recently I cannot put full blame on Carlo. Also all those of you who are still not aware, this isn't like the EPL where managers decide their transfers. Carlo is given whoever by Galliani and Braida, and he has to make-do. At the bes t he can make a request. We know for a fact that his (one) request was thrown out the window. So carletto is doing the best he can, and I will back him up. Coz for once, I don't think I can do a better job tongue.gif

Arsene Wenger couldn't do a better job...why coz Arsene builds a team into a great one, here team building is not upto the coach. The coach trains, the coach makes tactics, the coach does not choose his players.

Lastly on the Gila issue, I reserve judgement on him. I refuse to accept that he is classless. But I have to admit there's a limit to how long a striker can go without scoring. Lack of form can be an excuse only for so long. He's not had too many years of brilliant scoring in him to be forgiven an entire lousy season. I know his situation is not entirely similar to Adriano simply coz Adriano is a bit of a whiner, but there are similarities. Inter has treated Adriano rather shabbily, but it's not all unwarranted. He's had exactly the same complaints as Gila. We can't let Gila's better personality and team spirit cloud our judgement for too long.

And I have to be honest...I'd rather have a less-than-Gila striker as a regular whom I know I can rely upon for 15-20 goals every season, than having to wait with bated breath for Gila to reach his 20+ potential.

So what do I have to say about Gila? His position is shaky, very shaky, but the ground has not fallen beneath his feet. I guess he's our Lampard for this season. I don't think I can give him more than a month to shape up and start scoring, else I hate to say we'll have to find a replacement. We just don't have the luxury of enough players in form to carry one star player who is out of sorts. Man U can do it with Rooney, Chelsea with Lampard, Inter with Adriano , we've got j@ckshit if Gila is out.

I'm sorry guys but this season we need the points just too godaaamn bad to put loyalty and hard work over effectiveness in fact over all else. I won't disapprove of the contract extension, there's not much else the management can do as a confidence booster, the ball I'm afraid is at Gila's feet, his play to make.

For what it's worth, Forza Gila

Great post, Jack cool.gif

I just thought I'd bring up a couple of points though. I agree that Paolo was further forward than Janku, but why bring one of our better players off? Janku was having a decent game and is young enough to be able to attack and defend. Also that is not the first time carlo has made a like for like sub when we are looking for a win. Secondly, Seedorf was having a stinker and really should have been subbed for Oli a lot earlier; Oli isn't going to be able to do a lot in 14 mins. People slate Gila for not scoring yet Seedorf has had some awful games and always seems to be picked. It's about tims Seedorf actually started to dominate games like Ricky does, I mean it's not as if he's not capable of doing it!
You also say that carlo being a manager of a big club means he's not able to go 'kamikaze' but I don't see why not? I mean if we're 2-0 down with 20 or so mins to go whats wrong with going all guns blazing? It's better to go out fighting than with a wimper wink.gif

I won't go any further as I have to go out!

I told you, we needed width, If serginho had been fit, I have no suspicion Carletto would have brought him on instead of Paolo. We don't have a genuine winger or a left mid besides Janku remember?

And I think Janku had to be subbed, he was probably dead beat(he did look relieved to be going out). Seedorf was on for a simple reason.

Take the Anderlecht match, Seedorf was average until he set up that assist for Kaka. When ur 2-0 down with less than 20 mins to go, you stick with the guy whom you know is in form, just playing lazy and is capable of moments of brilliance. You take the bloke off when ur leading, and think he is useless to the offense.

And we did go Kamikaze in the last 20 mins, but then it literally was Palermo with a 10-0-0 formation and then there's really nothing to be done.

Too many players outta form implies, no tactics will work.

I agree with all of what you said, when I mean negative it's of how you refer to the team, it's ok to criticise, I do it, but I just don't like to see bashing, even though the player/coach recieving it probably deserves it, I just don't like it.

But I definately agree with you on the Carlo issue, with some of the like for like subs he does, but it's not all the time, most of the time he usually has a reason for doing it. This is why I think we are missing Serginho the most (sry dst but I had to say it, cause it's the truth) He normally would have taken off Gila or Pippo (since both where not playing that well or getting in eachother's way) put on Oli in, taken off either Pirlo and Seedorf and put on Serginho as a midfielder to add width and pace.

But again this all falls back on the management issue and them not providing Carlo with enough quality players on the bench. For example someone like Foggia should have never been loaned out this season, especially to Lazio who have given us hell to sell us a 30 year old RB
