If there's one thing Galliani has done right this summer, it's get rid of the dead weight we were carrying around

A problem he was responsible for.

I read somewhere that he cannot come back, the loan was mostly to help out Santos more than anything else as they will be taking care of all of his wages. I also read that there's an agreement for a small amount of cash (just over 1m) to make it permanent next summer

Yeah, but I didn't want to bring my Galliani negativity over to that post as well.

Alright, here's a question. If we were to sign Diego Lopez, Armero and Cerci, how would you consider our mercato?

Lopez
Alex
Armero
Menez
Cerci

Looks like another typical Galliani signing campaign. Free agents, old players and rejects.

If he was their best keeper then why do they want to get rid of him? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

This is a club who've gotten rid of Ozil and Robben when they had no better options in those positions. They're an odd team.

They're decent signings, but the position that needed the most strengthening (midfield) is once again ignored. So it's still a very average mercato

I'd give it a 5/10 and most of those marks I'm giving because of the sales rather than the acquisitions.

I think it would be a 7. I think all 5 improve the team, we didn't sell any important player. But it loses marks because we didn't sign the top quality that we needed.

Like mostly every one on here...

I think I would have to say the departures were pleasing thus far. Much dead weight has been released, and only few actually remain for the moment. Improvements can surely be made for many of the players still in the team, but I won't consider much of them 'dead weight' and that's another story.

The transfers in, were okay thus far, but much more can definitely be done.

Should the 3 you've listed (Lopez, Armero and Cerci) arrive as well, I think we would've added some much need depth to our squad, particularly a GK (which is long overdue), but still avoiding the midfield... which is still a huge area where attention is needed.

I'd really like to see both Muntari & Essien leave as well, but I don't necessarily see that happening anytime soon to be honest, and in reality their departure wouldn't necessarily strengthen our side per say, and we'd still need to improve the quality (& then the quantity) of the midfield at that point.

...

I'll prefer to give my overall assessment of the transfer window when it's all said and over & over with in September though.

I think the difference between you and most of us is acceptance. You have accepted the fact that we are a at best a mid-table team whereas most of us are struggling with that notion.

Football Italia says the link with Armero is held up coz of wages. He is on 1.3 million a year, and we've offered him 1.5 million. He apparently wants 3 million! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

He's not worth what we're offering, he's mid table quality at best and would be a back up for us.

I'd rather wait and try to go after Santon next summer

Give us 12m for Zapata and they can take him

Spanish press saying that we've agreed a deal with Barca to take Song on loan.

Probably means that we're about to sell De Jong to United if this happens...

There was no way we were ever keeping De Jong. Song isn't a bad replacement given where we are.

But it's pointless really, unless we're making good money for him, and Song will be free for this season if it's a loan.

We really need a good CM, everything else aside, I can't see us improving on last season if we don't sign a proper CM that will elevate our play

I highly doubt we'll sell De Jong.
