Hodgson says United players have to perform for their England place and can't just expect to be in the squad. I'm hoping this is aimed mostly at Carrick and Cleverley who are both awful and add absolutely nothing to the team.

Can't imagine that'd leave Rooney behind either way. Who else would get in? Young?

Rooney's mostly performed well. Young, Carrick, Cleverley and Jones have been awful though and shouldn't be going to the WC even with our injuries.

I'd probably say Rooney is the only United player that deserves it based on this season.

Kaká and Robinho out of the World Cup. Sounds about right.

List:

GKs
Julio Cesar (Toronto), Jefferson (Botafogo), Victor (Atletico-MG).

DEFENDERS
Thiago Silva (Psg), David Luiz (Chelsea), Dani Alves (Barcellona), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Dante (Bayern Monaco), Maicon (Roma), Maxwell (Psg), Henrique (Napoli).

MIDFIELDERS
Willian (Chelsea), Ramires (Chelsea), Fernandinho (Manchester City), Oscar (Chelsea), Hernanes (Inter), Luiz Gustavo (Wolfsburg), Paulinho (Tottenham).

FORWARDS
Neymar (Barcellona), Hulk (Zenit), Bernard (Shakhtar), Jo (Atletico-MG), Fred (Fluminense)

Weakest Brazil line-up ever? Possibly. They have no great striker to begin with. Defense is not bad, midfield is so-so.

Ouch. That's a pretty bad squad. Defensively and in the middle of midfield they're fine. Otherwise they have, what, Willian and Neymar? Easily the worst Brazil WC squad in my lifetime.

Worst indeed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) And there were times when they could have sent two teams to the World Cup. From 1998 to 2002 and even 2006, one could have carved out two quality playing XI from Brazil.

Lucas Moura got left out? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

That team isn't anything special compared to Brazil's of old though for sure.

And yet he picks Jo....

Kaka has been playing well this season, there was a drop off but I think he'd have deserved it. Robinho has barely played all season so yeah, that's fair

As a Brazilian, I don't think the squad is bad at all.

I'm sure you guys think fellas like Luis Gustavo or Paulinho are bad, but they have been huge for us. Who else would you call up anyways?

Germany:

Goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer, Roman Weidenfeller and Ron-Robert Zieler.

Defenders: Durm, Boateng, Grosskreutz, Höwedes, Hummels, Jansen, Lahm, Mertesacker, Mustafi, Schmelzer.

Midfielders: L Bender, Draxler, Goetze, Goretzka, Hahn, Khedira, Kroos, Meyer, Mueller, Ozil, Schweinsteiger.

Strikers: Klose, Podolski, Reus, Scheurrle, Volland.

Both Brazil and Germany with fairly underwhelming squads. Players are picked for a reason, obviously, but Durm, Jansen, Mustafi, Goretzka, Hahn, Meyer, Volland? Schurrle and Podolski haven't had good seasons either but get in.

This is going to be a crap World Cup I think.

They're just filler. This is a World Cup, there are what, six games in total? Even 13-14 players would be enough.

I think Germany have a formidable midfield, arguable the best in the world. They lack a quality striker, but maybe Klose will once again get into WC mode and score a shitload of goals. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Gomez. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) I hope just Germany goes out in the group stages, without scoring a goal.

Gomez has barely played this season and has been in very poor form.

I know, but still. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I'd always prefer him than the old hag that went in just because he is chums with their coach. Injuries, form, all things considered, Gomez for me will always be a better player and offer more than Klose. It might be futile, but I'm still hopeful of Portugal tearing Germany a new one in the group stage match.
