Everyone here thinks they are both overpriced, I did, a few posts back I said about it. Bent is starting to prove himself though, when you look at Torres for £50m with one goal, Sheva wasn't as bad. But he's not English so I guess that is a blessing in disguise for him around the globe.

What are you trying to say with the last sentence? Are you actually comparing Torres/Sheva (I don't know who you refer to with ''he'') who were one of the best forwards of their times with this Bent dude? Or what do you mean?

it's not the players itself that are hyping themselves, but the loony media and commentators. I cannot believe how much the announcers got away with, especially in Real Madrid vs Tottenham, it was laughable.

There are plenty of world class English players like Lampard, Rooney, Ferdinand. But for some reason the 'decent' as opposed to outstanding players cost almost as much as the latter do.

Rooney cost Utd £25M or so - because he was a sensational talent. Now ordinary players are costing similar amounts.

It really does seem to be an English thing - is it due to the sheer amount of money in the English game?

I did have a reply, but changed it. I'm more than happy to debate with people if they're going to be sensible but comments like "Bent is the most overpriced player ever" and "are you actually compariing Torres with this Bent dude".. I'm not debating with that, at least show a little respect, both of you.

Bent over his career scores at a better rate than Torres (Bent ever 2.30 games, Torres ever 2.36). He's also had the misfortune of not getting to play for many high profiled clubs while Torres has played for 3 CL regulars. Then you're saying a guy who has had a few good years in Austria and Scotland is better than the man? Come on. Fair enough if you don't think he's one of the very best, but to basically laugh at people for trying to compare him to other top strikers is a bit over the top. £18m for Bent is not even close to being overpriced. His scoring record considering the teams he's played for us outstanding. He's the most prolific scorer in English football over the past 5 years, a list that includes the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Drogba, Berbatov, etc. I fail to see how he is overpriced with the transfers of Jones, Henderson, Suarez, Torres and Carroll. The media laughing at us looks rather silly now.

Talking of the media laughing at us. Ashley Young looks like he may be moving to Manchester United for £20m, despite only having a year left on his contract. And when we signed him supposedly we'd made one of the worst mistakes ever signing him for over £9m? 4 and a half years, 37 goals and 57 assists later, we've got great service from him and made over 100% profit. Never forget this goal, I was one of the lucky ones to be there.

You English people seem to like your role as "the guys everyone hates" pretty much, he? People all over the world highly rate English players like Lampard, Gerrard or Rooney. But of course Brazilian and Spanish players always seem a bit more fancy. Because Brazil is Copa Cabana, Samba football, Péle and all in all...more fascinating in a sunshiny way. Players from "northern" Europe (except the Netherlands of course) like England, Scotland, Germany or Belgium will always seem less admirable than their Latin counterparts. It's their fate.

Your view is completely clouded by 100% bias, which is fair enough. But you're also trying to use stats to show you're being completely honest and impartial. Which is not the case. I'm the same - I wouldn't be whoring Jelavic and other Rangers players in the way I do if they didn't play for Rangers.

This is simply not true. The stats comparing him to Torres were there because of something Chu-Lip said. As for me being biased? I have always been a big fan of Darren Bent, here's posts taken from this very forum.

His goalscoring ratio is similar at International level to that of Torres and Messi, what's your point? It's also fair to point out that only 6 of those were starts, the others were mainly late subsitute appearances where he's hardly going to make an impact.

And I think it's pretty common for players at poor sides to not get into the International side. Look at Gareth Barry, James Milner. Barry played for a poor Villa side and didn't break into the England team until we were regular top 6 - despite him actually playing better before that. Milner didn't get a look in at Newcastle, wasn't until he moved to Villa he made the team. Players like SWP who couldn't even get in the Chelsea team play, then when they move away and play more regular football they get dropped. It's the way of International football, now at Villa Bent plays regularly for England and scores regularly.

I'm sorry but this is hilarious.

Andy Murray outright says anti-English stuff and as a result, me and Ash dislike the man. You say our posts are bordering on xenophobic. You criticise Bent for no reason and when I mention it's because you're Scottish you say I'm being unreasonable and making it about xenophobia? Come on man, don't be a hypocrite. You're way smarter than this.

I meant to pick up on something you said earlier anyways. You felt Jelavic would get into the Villa side over Bent. Bent is proven to be one of the best scorers in the EPL (the best in recent years) and Jelavic has yet to even play in a top league. You apparently dismiss this and criticise Bent's 3 in 10 for England. Yet seem to ignore the fact that Jelavic has actually scored less goals in more games for his country. Just seems a strange arguement to me.
