Thanks Captain! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif)

I mean, he surely is among the top 5 or 10 best defenders. but THE best? that's pushing it.

He has been consistently amazing this season. I don't think he lacks anything compared to all the other top CB's at the moment so calling him the best is not crazy, he's as good as anyone else at least.

I think it's a fair enough question, zeddie, and Fishdoll won't bite you for answering. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Of the centerbacks currently playing in major leagues around the world, who else would you put in the top 5?

Well, even if I name one, that'd mean he's one of the best not "the best" - which was my point. like dst said, he's at least as good as anyone else. IMO there are a few who are as good as anyone else too. so these few defenders who are as good as each other form that top x.

Terry and Puyol (judging them based on their performance over the past 12 months) are the two I'm sure I'd put in my top 5 list.

I think he's still can improve a little. in the past few games, there have been a few moments where the Nesta of 2007 Athens final would have done better. he's so damn near his top form but not there yet.

Fair enough.(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I disagree on Terry - personally I think he's overrated - but we're all welcome to our opinions.

Fishdoll rather likes Puyol.

I never much liked Terry either but there came a point where I had to admit he's a very solid defender.

He certainly can improve, he still has not scored a hat-trick. No really, I agree.

So will we see him with a facemask?

If we do, will fishdoll have to suffer a bigger or smaller squeal?

I think he's 3rd behind Terry and Puyol personally. But that's nothing to be ashamed of. If he keeps this up for the rest of the season then it'll surely be a 1a/1b/1c type scenario, there will be nothing between them.

If the Nesta of today is good, I wonder what he was like at Lazio. Can't imagine it.

Who's better, then?

puyol, vidic, ferdinand, terry, chiellini, lucio, samuel, carragher and etc are all in the top.

Nesta is quality but Puyol is better currently.

What?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Of that lot Terry is probably the only one who's worth mentioning, because of his tenaciousness, and drive. Don't even get me started on Carragher. Chiellini...maybe we'll see.

Puyol is better, because his team is performing better? Because that reasoning cannot apply when you're comparing two players in isolation, and deciding who's skills are better. Nesta is easily the most skilled CB of his generation.
