QUOTE (Jack Sparrow @ Dec 11 2008, 05:08 PM) Coz the next Baresi would cost mucho Dinero compared to Thiago Silva. It's the thing with European players. Just recollect, how much we got Pato for and how much Rooney was purchased from Everton. It's not about losing identity. It's about business sense.
That being said, I still want our team to put out at least 6 italian players every time, which sadly doesn't seem to be happening. That's a tricky comparison Jack. Rooney was the star of the Euro 2004 when he was for sale. And he was also a proven player in one the major European leagues. No offense! The brazilian Serie A is a fine league but it can't be compared to the big four in Europe. Pato was practically no one we we bought him. Plus the 20 million we payed for Pato aren't are bargain either. And you shouldn't forget all the other Brazilian youngsters who came to Europe for crazy fees. Robinho, Ronaldo or Anderson when he came from Porto to ManU.

Well Pato did do excellently in the Club World Cup, when Internacional beat Barca I think. That was when the Pato legend truly began. Man U was a bad comparison though. They always overpay for their players. Just look at the crazy money paid for Tevez. And now they sit him on the bench... (IMG: style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) Perhaps the correct way to put it would be that, established European players are always more expensive than the relatively unknown Brazillian counterparts. But then again, I also feel that a young European player would cost more than a young South American. Coz while a club like say Napoli could say no to 10 million Euros for a young defender, I doubt if a club in Brazil like say Fluminense could...

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Dec 11 2008, 05:56 PM) Agreed. I don't just want us to play 6 Italian players every game, I think it should be a rule that we have to. It would force teams to make sure they work on bringing their own players through, and I'm sure we'd see alot less of other teams just snatching promising youngsters from other clubs. I totally agree. This is just getting worse and worse.

QUOTE (Habitant @ Dec 11 2008, 06:39 PM) all i know is dessenas current play is much better than emo's, and he was sold for 4m E to samp...
we could have easily snatched him for a similar fee and his wages arent as high as emerson's.
another instance when we could have picked up local talent and for cheap. He's not ready for Milan yet. Needs to continue in the same vein for the rest of the season, and then do it again next season before he's even considered.

Not Milan related but an interesting rumor: Mediaset is reporting that Scolari is on his way out of Chelsea and that Abramovich will replace him with Roberto Mancini.
