QUOTE (Porty @ Jul 27 2007, 02:45 PM) Portsmouth just won the Asia Trophy in penalties vs. Liverpool. Fernando Torres and Benayoun missed. David James was the man of the match. He was brilliant. Liverpool totally dominated Pompey, Torres got 45 min. Muntari was good too on Pompey side. Nice match. Too bad the 0-0. Scousers thinking: "SELL TORRES. GET FOWLER. At least he knows how to score a fecking penalty!" At first I thought this guy looks awful but he got into it and was far better than Kuyt in the second half not like that's too hard though. He didn't even know he was playing until Harry Redknapp the Pompey boss told Benitez that he did actually have international clearance for the game! Sissoko, I never realised how good he was!

Fernando Torres is top-quality. Not much to say... Totti missed 5 or 6 penalties and dozen of sitters this year. Same with Ibrahimovic who even missed one in the UEFA XI vs. ManUtd in Old Trafford (hit the bar (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ). Kaka' too. Not to talk about Baggio... It's funny usually the best players in the team miss. All Torres need is patience. Time to get settle... it's the first time he goes to a club outside of Madrid and he's still 23. The quality is not the question. Sissoko? He was OK but Mascherano is world-class. Way better. Although Sissoko could be in the first 11 in 80% of the European teams. The problem is that with Alonso, Leiva, Mascherano and even Gerrard (although he's going to be on the right) it's difficult to play. PS: Benitez is worried about his goatee. Not about Torres international clearance. Yeah although Leiva won't/shouldn't get a look in yet in all honesty, he's nothing to the others at the moment anyway, watching him earlier reminded me of the days of Igor Biscan (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I think Gerrard will be in the centre now, Benitez will use Benayoun, Pennant, Kewell and Babel out wide so Gerrard has to play in the centre now, surely! He looks so stupid with it, he reminds me of Brandon Flowers out of The Killers I mean why it just really doesn't suit them but nevermind!

He looks so stupid with it, he reminds me of Brandon Flowers out of The Killers I mean why it just really doesn't suit them but nevermind! Leiva is quality too. Milan and ManUtd were after him too. Too young though. [Biscan? THE LEGEND! (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ] The problem in Liverpool is that they would need a 'Cristiano Ronaldo' on the right and a 'Arjen Robben' on the left to put Gerrard in the middle. They've Mascherano and Alonso for the center. 2 world-class players. Plus Sissoko, plus Leiva in long-term. Liverpool is, IMHO, the club with better center-midfield in Europe if you look at the number of players they've for that position and their quality. If it was in Italy or Portugal... I've no doubt Benitez would use the 4-4-2 diamond. But in England it's difficult. Playing with no wingers...

QUOTE Aston Villa have signed University of North Carolina defender Eric Lichaj. The 18-year-old, who was in his second year of study, has moved to England after impressing Villa manager Martin O'Neill while performing for the United States Under 17 and Under 20 sides. Lichaj has put pen-to-paper on a professional two-year contract, but will initially train with Villa's Academy squad. The defender is currently side-lined with a broken foot, but he becomes Villa's first signing from across the Atlantic since American businessman Randy Lerner bought the club in 2006. "Eric has signed a two-year deal with options," Lichaj's agent Steve Kelly told Yanks Abroad. "He will initially be playing in the reserves, but his goal is to some day play for the first-team. "He was injured before he signed, but they saw his talent before that. He won't be playing until at least September." Sky Sports I've never heard of him myself. Tennie/Warchant or anybody else from the States know about him?
