QUOTE (milanista1899 @ May 19 2007, 09:35 PM) Boo-hoo! every team has their problems, these are just excuses. No-one has had more problems than us but we're in the CL final & in the competition next season thanks to the right attitude and hard work, both of which were nowhere to be seen today. When was the last time we lost against them? must have been ages ago, because we're good and they are an average team, not the other way around! As I said before, the line-up before the game indicated of where Milan's minds really where. Udinese, as I previously said have a good team with good players, and obviously they got the better of our team who have been warming the bench for most of the season or are just youth players. And yes maybe they didn't look like they wanted to win the game as much as they should or maybe they wheren't trying hard enough, but really, I don't care, if resting the players will help us win on Wednesday then everyone will even forget that this game was played, let alone that we lost it. The fact that we made it as far as the CL final despite the problems we've had and the worst season we had in years just shows what this team is made of, one stupid game doesn't change that in my eyes. I'm not saying that I didn't want them to win, because no one like to lose and everyone likes to win, but if in the end the loss of this game was a samll price o pay in order for us to get #7, then I really don't care that we lost it. Simple as that really

QUOTE (han2503 @ May 19 2007, 10:34 PM) No way, just think 0f this, 3pts and MAYBE (because Lazio can still pip us to third place even if we had won it today) get to 3rd in the table. OR going out to the final with players ALL with fresh legs and a good mental state. For me it's a no brainer. I guess it's just a difference of oppinion (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) but I can't understand why you feel so strongly about how our B team performed in a game we didn't need to win Why do you keep asking me to choose between different scenarios? It's about the attitude not necessarily the weaker players. Would Mourinho have been happy to have lost a game like today? No, because he has the right attitude - he wants to win them all. I know it isn't always possible but at least they should have tried harder!

And Carlo must think like me since he chose to rest everyone that has ANY chance to play in Athens. A coach has to make a choice and Carlo made one. As for the Mourinho thing, A clever poster (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) here just said that Mourinho never took Chelsea to the CL final with his so called 'I want to win everything' mentality where as our simpleton coach took us to 3.

But not between one thing or the other but the secret 3rd option (that apparently only I could see) Maybe it's cos I think outside the box a bit. They went out in the semi-final 2yrs ago thanks to a none existent goal from Alonso, this year they went out on penalties. What has that got to do with his mentality? It's to do with bad luck. Ok, Valdano said that Benitez & Mourinho are the same, Benitez has been in 2 of the same finals as us and won 1 (so far)!

You don't NEED to take them to the Final to be called a winner. In his 3 years at Chelsea he has been knocked out by great team. 1st season: Liverpool (Eventual winner) in the semi-finals. 2nd season: Barcelona (Eventual winner) in the round of 16. 3rd season: Liverpool (Current finalists) in the semi-finals. His record is as good as Milan's in the last few years. He has done a superb job.

QUOTE (han2503 @ May 19 2007, 10:59 PM) Yep I understand the fact that you would expect the reserves to at least try abit harder to impress. That is something that I find irritating myself, but I still woudn't have played the starters just to get the 3 points. You telling me that if we win the CL, you would still find this loss irritating? Yeah I know. Thankyou (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/king.gif) I wouldn't have played all the starters myself, just a few who haven't played most games this season (no noobs) Yes. Especially if we don't get 3rd place!

Ok, Valdano said that Benitez & Mourinho are the same, Benitez has been in 2 of the same finals as us and won 1 (so far)! It's not about thinking outside the box. It's about what Carlo and the physicians at Milan Lab think is best. And if they think it would be best to rest the players that will play on Wednesday then that is what they will do. Bad luck or no bad luck he hasn't let them to the final, and that is what counts in the end. And I think it has to do with his mentality a lot, he didn't want to lose his precious home record and get the full points against Bolton and his players ended up running out of gas against Liverpool, because they have been pushed to the limit throughout the season. Chelsea have what it takes to beat Liverpool in normal time, but the fact some of the players seemed too tired to even run had an effect on them.

Especially if we don't get 3rd place! But if someone got injured in the game then what? would you really trust Brocchi instead of Ambro or Rino in the final just because we risked one of them because of 3 points against Udinese? Just think of this, if we win on Wednesday we will go through to the CL group stages without going through the qualifiers, that's as good as getting to first or second in the league. And in the end 3rd place and 4th are practically the same thing. And winning it today still wouldn't have assured us 3rd spot since Lazio will probably win tomorrow and get back ahead of us in the table

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ May 19 2007, 11:13 PM) If we picked our best 11 players, there's always the possiblity we could have lost just as comfortably. Then there's also the risk of injury. Not only that it would put them in a bad mentality going into the game, I wouldn't risk that for 3 points. The result meant nothing to me, the fact that 'Sandro scored in his last ever game at the San Siro was better than the win. As I said above, I wouldn't have played our BEST 11 either, just a few (3 or 4 maybe) that didn't need as much rest as others (or that won't start/will be on the bench in Athens). But not so many primavera either.
