QUOTE (dst @ Feb 11 2007, 12:20 PM)
They did that (spend big) on purpose. Now look, they also bought Marcelo, a young Brazilian LB and they bought him for little... is anyone going to buy his shirt right now?? Not many...

On the other hand Higuain and Gago were bought as saviors, Real had already advertised them some months ago so people knew them... they're big sellers. They will have that money back by the end of the season...

I don't think they will sell that many shirts.

dst .. It isn't about who buys the promising youth player first or who brings in that rare talent .. It's about where and when will you use that player.

Clearly Madrid were looking after their best interest and bought these players, but what influence will they have on the team as a whole .. Cuz when u talk about Madrid or Milan .. You talk about teams that are fully equipt to mount a challenge on the highest of levels.

Maybe at Arsenal or PSV, such players can evolve into something big .. But to buy them at the ridiculous price and apply them directly to the first team, in their first season isn't exactly a smart move .. Cuz, they lack alot in terms of experience and understanding within the team .. Look at RVN, he was a hit !!! A 30 yr old, but worth every penny .. He kicked it off right from the first minute .. reyes, after his time at Arsenal has showed a HUGE improvment since his time at Sevilla

Higuain ? Gago ? Marcelo ? Robinho ? WHO ?!?! Sure they have showed potential, but arent ready to play for Milan, let alone Madrid.

Madrid had Zidane, R9, Figo, R. Carlos, Makelele, etc .. They were all experienced players who brought new idea's to Madrid's game .. Can these youngsters do the same ? I doubt it, cuz they have no room to develop.

Milan on the other hand is doing things the right way, they buy 1 youngster/season or transfer .. And integrate that player to the team in a way that doesn't distract the team's flow or play .. But u get my point .. Bringing in half a dozen youngsters and asking them to top La Liga and CL is far fetched to me. I don't care how much potential they show, they still lack a lot. Madrid should seriouslly drop them to their second tier team or loan them out ..

what are you trying to say Rossoneri7!?? I said they're both clearly financial moves... nothing to do with the game itself.

Well think about it this way dst. Would you want to buy a jersey of a player who's either
a. Underperforming
b. Not good enough
c. Not getting enough play time

Of course, there'll be an initial fan flurry to buy jerseys, but if these guys don't hit it off soon, it's gonna come down. Now that's financial.

I don't need to discuss the career hara-kiri these boys have committed. Except for Seedorf and Makalele(both experienced and fortunate to get good managers) I don't remember anybody whom Madrid offloaded and has managed to resurrect his career.

Getafe is one of those small teams that in their stadium can beat anyone. No matter if it's Valencia, Real, Barcelona or Chelsea.

Do you know Getafe was founded by a group of Real Madrid fans? (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

By Real Madrid fans huh? Musta been the last of the sensible ones.

Anybody think the old heirarchy of footballing supremacy is on it's way to being replaced.

You know Real, Liverpool, Milan((IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) ) , et al. Making way for the Sevillas, the Arsenals etc.

Naah..I think this is just one wierd year. Probably the global warming.

what are you talking about?? All I'm saying is that both Higuain and Gago are, above all money-related signings. Madrid's directors only care about money and they are managing the club amazingly well... that club is a healthy company, it's been enough for their board for some 6-7 years now. Titles are welcomed but not their objective, no matter what they say!!

HT. Barça 0-0 Racing, Racing missed a PK (Valdes stopped it) (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Barça are playing a decent match, though they're not excellent they made some great combos!
