Billy praises Carlo era
Newly retired Milan stopper Alessandro Costacurta has spoken of his admiration for Coach Carlo Ancelotti in an exclusive interview with Football Italia.
In a side including so many high-profile stars the defender nicknamed ‘Billy’ has rarely received his fair share of the plaudits, but he will be remembered fondly by teammates and fans alike.
The 41-year-old quit football following the Diavoli’s triumph in Athens and revealed that he believes the current side to be the best he played in.
“I’ve played in three different Rossoneri eras and really you have to look at the results and say that Ancelotti has the best, with three Champions League Finals in five years, including two victories,†he stated.
“Under Capello we also dominated Europe, but this Milan side is stronger as we’re playing against better opposition – 15 years ago there were fewer sides who could challenge.â€
After a lifetime spent on the pitch, Costacurta will take on a new role as Carletto’s assistant alongside Mauro Tassotti, but revealed that he would ideally become involved in the club’s transfer dealings.
“In 2001 I said we had to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic, nobody listened to me though and the same happened the year before with Luca Toni at Vicenza,†he moaned.
“Perhaps that’s why they asked me to become assistant Coach and not a director. I was hoping to start as something like a director of sport, but instead I’ll be on the bench.
