Yeah I see where you're coming from. But I guess my definition of metronome is different. Makalele, Sergio Busquets etc. are cut from the same cloth.
But I would place Pirlo, Xavi, Xabi Alonso etc. in the metronome/regista position.
In the sense all attacks are launched from their end. All the passes are targeted to reach them. It was a brand new position when it first came out, but gradually we see it phasing out due to the new tactics of high pressing.
We are going to see more of Montella's system which is a midfield without genuine reference point and mezallas being critical.
