QUOTE Kaka: We are calm Milan star Kaka believes the Rossoneri are in a perfect state of mind ahead of the Champions League Final with Liverpool.
The San Siro outfit will face the Reds at the Olympic Stadium in Athens two years after the dramatic night in Istanbul, in the eleventh decider for six-time European Champions Milan.
“Training went very well yesterday, we discussed some of the aspects which will be important in Wednesday’s match,†Kaka told Milan Channel.
“I see that the side is in good shape, we are calm and relaxed. We are aware of our own strength and of what we can do,†added the attacking midfielder.
“I believe Peter Crouch is one of their most dangerous players. He is very strong on high balls and is an opportunist when he is in the area.
“We will have to be very careful if he plays. If somebody else plays instead there will be other things to worry about.â€
The Brazilian insists that Milan’s desire to win the Final has slowly grown and believes that Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s role in the team’s impressive season in Europe has been vital.
“We slowly managed to gain confidence that we would reach another Final and the desire to win it has grown,†explained Kaka.
“Now we are here and we have a chance of winning, this is wonderful. Ancelotti is a special person, he knows how to manage the group, manage people, and this is very important in football.
“Milan have many stars in the squad, many great players and they need a Coach as good as him,†concluded the 25-year-old.
The Rossoneri will be hoping that Greece will continue its positive tradition, as that is where they won the 1994 Champions League Final against Barcelona with a stunning 4-0 win.

Herbert Fandel To Take Charge Of Athens Finale
The grand finale between AC Milan and Liverpool FC will be handled by 43-year-old German referee Herbert Fandel, a UEFA press release announced.
The UEFA Referees Committee today announced the referee for the final of the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League. The grand finale between AC Milan and Liverpool FC will be handled by 43-year-old German referee Herbert Fandel.
It will be the first time that he has handled a game in Athens, but he is no stranger to the two finalists. He has met AC Milan five times, dating back to a 2-0 home win in the UEFA Cup against Hapoel Tel Aviv on 21 March 2002.
He then handled three 1-0 UEFA Champions League victories – against Club Brugge KV in Belgium on 4 November 2003; against FC Shakhtar in Donetsk on 14 September 2004; and at home to Manchester United FC on 8 March 2005. This season, he was the referee of the 4-1 win against RSC Anderlecht at San Siro – which meant that he finally saw AC Milan concede a goal.
On the other hand, he has never seen Liverpool FC score a goal. He handled their 2-0 defeat in Valencia on 17 September 2002; the goalless draw away to Chelsea FC on 6 December 2005; and the 1-0 home defeat by FC Barcelona at Anfield in this season’s 1st Knock-Out Round on 6 March.
Herbert Fandel, born on 9 March 1964, started his refereeing career in 1979; made his Bundesliga debut in 1996; and became an international referee in 1998.
His debut was at the European Under-16 finals in Scotland that same year and, since then, he has been selected for the 1999 Meridian Cup in South Africa; the 2000 European Under-21 finals in Slovakia; the 2000 Olympic Games; and the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2005. He was the referee of last season’s UEFA Cup final in Eindhoven, where Sevilla FC beat Middlesbrough FC 4-0.
Herbert Fandel’s curriculum vitae includes 17 UEFA Champions League games and on his 69-match international track record there’s an Under-21 game between Italy and England on 27 May 2000 when Gennaro Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo (he scored the penalty that clinched a 2-0 win) were in action against Jamie Carragher.
His most recent UEFA Champions League match was also at an ‘Olympic Stadium’. He was at the Stadio Olimpico for the AS Roma v Manchester United FC fixture (2-1) in the first leg of the quarter-finals. His team on that night is the one he will lead out in Athens: Carsten Kadach, 43, and Volker Wezel, 41, are his Assistant Referees, while Florian Meyer will act as 4th Official. Carsten Kadach ran the line for Markus Merk in Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat by Chelsea FC in the first leg of the semi-finals.

QUOTE (zdrossoneri @ May 21 2007, 06:30 PM) by the way our starting lineup is very predicable, while their's not. that's a huge advantage for them, believe me or not. ^^^ I actually believe that a predictable lineup in some ways is advantageous. Playing the same set of players together on a regular basis allows for strong cohesion to develop. We've been able to develop some great cohesion between the defence and midfield in the latter stages of this season. I wouldn't be too concerned about the fact that our lineup is predictable. With regard to Liverpool's lineup, I wouldn't be surprised if Benitez took a risk and started with something along the lines of: -------------------Reina------------------------- -------Finnan-----Agger------Carragher------- Pennant-----Alonso-----Masch----------Kewell -------------------Gerrard----------------------- -------------Crouch-----Kuyt-------------------- The logic behind this would be to play both Pennant and Kewell to try to peg back our fullbacks (who are our major source of width in attack) and to play three in central midfield in order to reduce space in the middle of the pitch. The aim would be to force Kaka to go to wide areas to find the ball, thereby taking him away from where he is most dangerous. I'm not sure if this would work, but Benitez is an excellent tactician and I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this. We should avoid penalties at all costs given Liverpool's record in shootouts, and especially Reina's record of 7 saves out of 9 for Villareal (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) ) So I would really like to see us go out and really play to win...rather than play not to lose (like both teams did in the FA Cup final). I don't particularly want revenge for Istanbul, but just want to win to bury the bad memories of 2005. Realistically, the only way we could ever do that is to beat Liverpool in another Champions League final. We have, possibly through fate or destiny, incredibly been given that opportunity. Surely we won't fail? Hopefully la forza della destina will be with us!

QUOTE Pirlo eyes Reds revenge (Stupid Headline Warning!!)Andrea Pirlo is looking for Milan to claim revenge over Liverpool on Wednesday. (Stupidity goes on!!)Pirlo was part of the Milan team defeated by Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final two years ago in Istanbul. Now, as the two sides prepare to meet again, this time in Athens, Pirlo is determined to avoid a repeat performance. "That final remained in our minds for a long time," Pirlo stressed. "But in a few days' time we will have the opportunity to cancel out those memories. "We are prepared mentally and physically for this game. "This is a game that every player wants to experience. "This will be my third final and I personally don't feel any nerves ahead of the game." Pirlo is in confident mood going into the game, adding: "We are a great team and they will have to be on their guard not only because of me but because of the quality of the rest of my team-mates. "Likewise, we will have to be careful with Liverpool because they have great players too." skysports Please Pirlo, we need this more than anything! (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Milan squad and staff will be in Athens in about 3 hours (IT: 5PM)!! Damn this game is really getting close now. Keep seeing people with liverpool shirts while I'm wearing my pride and glory, and they keep giving me a wry smile. Usually I'm the one to fire shots but this time its different. Firstly 2005 its dead and buried, even though its hard to do, it is. They got very lucky with very questionable refereeing, they won and there name is forever in the book. For me its not about 2005, its about 2007 and it certainly is not about liverpool revenge its just simply about milan. The team was taunted and mocker most of the year. Now we have another chance to prove why we really are the best club in the world. In saying all this I have no idea what the result will be, just typing away now makes me feel nervous. On the positive got my away shirt from milanstore today. (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) So where will everybody be watching the game (excluding dst, living in athens wtf is that about (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) )..

QUOTE (Bluesummers @ May 20 2007, 09:35 PM) I have doubts that he has actually said that. I know he has great determination, but i highly doubt anyone would say that this late. I coach, and usually during important games the team usually find the love or begins falling apart. One of the two and i highly doubt were falling apart (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) This is the guy that said the he would eat the ref's card if he showed him the yellow in the World Cup semi because he would get suspended for the final. This is the guy that said that he would tie himself to the team bus if Lippi didn't take him with him because of injury. Rino is driven by imotion and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he actually said this. No one probably wants this more then Rino. Just 2 and a half days to go now before the moment of truth arrives. I won't make any predictions, I'm just really nervous and it's already starting to get to me. I'm just hoping for the best and that the team play their haerts out when the moment comes
