At least our draws have goals in them. Think of what the Barca fans must have gone through, the last couple of weeks. (IMG:

And poor Inter....they really need Zlatan maybe even more than we need Kaka.
Ok dst so to talk of your formation issue...good question...but imo Carlo fielded the best 11 that was available to him.
Gila's waiting for Christmas ergo he put on the best striker available to him. We know Gila and Pippo are hopeless together, they can't even pull defenders off since they're running in the same areas.
But imo (you'll have to realize I'm at a handicap here, since what I know of the match is from what little non-inflammatory posts I could read...have I mentioned how pissed off I'am about that (IMG:
http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ) the turning point here was when Pirlo was marked down. The X-Mas tree is really a deadwood if Pirlo is ineffective. Last season we suffered the effects of his bad form, and this match coz he was marked down.
The problem with the 4-3-2-1 is since Kaka plays virtually as a second forward, it means unless service comes in from the deep mid-field(which in this case was not forthcoming) he's not gonna get the ball enough to give us that added thrust. When we played the diamond he was usually close enough to the action to drop back, making life easier for Pirlo.
So perhaps Seedorf and Ambro were required to combine and combine constructively(without Pirlo's influence) forcing Parma to counter that added threat. But then since we were playing with Brocchi, I guess Ambro was also too bothered playing DM to really do something constructive. But then he got the shot off right?? Actually this kind of scenario would have been ideal for Ballack(since we're talking about him)
If we'd played
Oddo----Bonera----Nesta----Janku
---------------Max--------------------
---------Pirlo--------Ballack----------
----------------Seedorf----------------
---------------------------Kaka--------
--------------Pippo/Gila---------------
Things would be different, we'd have Ballack performing his Leverkusen role. A holding mid who likes to go forward. Marking Pirlo down leaves Ballack wide open. At the same time you don't sacrifice on defence cover as you would if you'd play say a Gourcuff. Gourcuff can sub in for any of Pirlo/Ballack/Seedorf...depending on the tide of the match.
Right...so Chapter 1 dealt with how to make the X-Mas tree work when Pirlo is marked down, and the opposing team is looking to break Milan's plays rather than make one of their own.
So what am I saying. Sell/loan Brocchi, buy Ballack. Emerson can do anything and everything Brocchi does. Ballack takes place in the above formation. Would also come cheaper than Ronaldinho.
So what could we have done since we were without Ballack and have to make-do??
When it looked like we were not making much happen in the second half, and (if Parma's coach is to believed and Reginaldo was set to exploit Janku's open end)....
Oddo----Bonera----Nesta----Kaladze
Cafu-----Max------Andy P----Janku
--------------Kaka--------------------
----------------------Pippo/Gila-------
Switch to the 4-4-1-1 .
Kaladze on for Seedorf
Cafu on for Brocchi (or Brocchi could have stayed on since he has played RM before).
Since our initial wingbacks, can now focus on just being fullbacks, we have a little less pressure on the defence. So if you wanted you could even take Max out and plug in Yoann, in an all out attack. But then prudence being the better part of valour, let's stick with this.
Ideally instead of Janku, it would have to be Sergio, for reasons I'll explain in just a second.
So now before you all say 'We don't play wingers'...I don't require them to.
These guys are meant to crowd the mid-field, meaning cutting Pirlo's space doesn't reduce his avenues of distribution. In fact instead of playing them as wide-men...I would rather have Cafu and Janku charge(and boy they do it well!!) towards the middle of the field from their ends, basically opening up an entire 180 deg. angle of short passes for Andy....and Claude Makalele could be marking Andy but couldn't stop a short pass from our maestro.
Now presuming that Janku or Cafu has the ball, both of them have the skill and the speed to take it up to Kaka. Kaka also has the brains to run into open space. This means now there are double the sources of ball possession (Marek and Cafu) open to Kaka as opposed to the previous one (Seedorf).
Also assuming that Cafu can't cross, he can still dribble like a Brazillian and dart in and out really cleverly. It would be good enough for him to drift wide and cut in.
Janku would I guess do better going wide than cutting in (though he can do it), his ability to cross(and since he's playing from mid-field, cross often) means if we needed, You can have Pippo, Kaka and Ambro stroll into the box for ur theoretical box overload strategy, either ball comes loose to Pirlo for a shot or a new play or to one of our boys in the box or it miraculously is won by the Parma players who start a counterattack only to find they're heading into the arms of 4 of Milan's finest, since our defence is exactly where it is meant to be (defending).
Why I wanted Sergio was coz he could do both. Cut in and dribble through to Kaka or run wide and cross in. Marek is not the dribbler Sergio is, though he might be a better crosses(marginally).
Well tat's my (a lot more than) 2 cents. I'd be very surprised if you guys understood all of what I meant to do. So feel free to ask questions.
