QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 25 2012, 01:25 AM) I wasn't talking about individual tackles, I was talking about the whole unit. I thought we were very impressive, probably the best defensive display so far. Impressive? England played like a scared little nation, Gerrard started to have seizures after 60 minutes or so, and your teams only goal during extra time was to survive it. The defense was quite okay, but not impressive. You defended with 10 people! And Italy didn't play that boring after all. If anything, they played "unitalian", tried to win a game by scoring and not by preventing their opponents from scoring. That was England.

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 25 2012, 01:36 AM) England missed 2 sitters also, doesn't mean we were particular good or deserved the goals or anything. No, you obviously didn't deserve to win because England just stopped playing constructive. Italy took over, won the midfield battle and dominated. In no way I'd say Italy was defensively strong. Both England and Italy were defensively unstable, and it is a true wonder that no one scored.

QUOTE (KillerMax @ Jun 23 2012, 11:50 PM) Casillas is the best GK in the World. Buffon lost his confidence at some point and has never returned to his legendary form. On the other hand, Casillas has only gained in that department. Great to still be able to watch such amazing goalkeeping. Sorry but I had to quote this and say "WTF, man". You said you don't watch Real Madrid games anymore because you can't stand that team. well here's the news: Casillas has had his fair share of bad form too, mainly 2-3 years ago when he'd occasionally make mistakes, concede bad goals, etc. just like Buffon at some points. Bottom line is both are legends - the two great GKs of this generation. being off form sometimes doesn't matter when you can return to being unreal again and again and that's what Buffon's done so far in this tournament.

I thought England's defense was too passive and overall mediocre. Only the back four played well and thankfully for England because everyone else was compromising team defense. Individually, England had the back four in a great day defensively but overall they played poor defense in my view. QUOTE (LaPalma @ Jun 25 2012, 12:43 PM) Impressive? I watch Real highlights here and there and have seen Spain occasionally. It always impresses me how many chances he saves. Mistakes happen. ALL players make mistakes. Everything else you say, I agree with. As for Buffon, I just see him coming out of his shell now. The man himself has publicly acknowledged his personal problems on different occasions and also has been his own biggest critic in the media. IMO he has been right. But don't you for one second think that I'm not happy to see him climb back to the top. *** Anyways, for some reason, it is obvious to me that Germany will beat Italy. Now there is news that both Abate and De Rossi are out. Maybe Abate's absence can be remedied by another player one way or another. But De Rossi? Such a key figure. Also Germany have been so freakishly dominant. I would hate to see Italy lose so I'm just dreading this game from this minute.

This time I'm with you, it's clear the Germans are favorites to win. more rest days, more fresh player, better up front, etc etc. but "still" can't give up hope yet. it's Pazza Italia. Btw, just checked football Italia, it says Abate and De Rossi are doubts, but doesn't say they're out for certain. where did you read that?

hey there, how have you been? so what do you think about Thursday's semi-final? Kinda busy. New city (again), some work, some grown up stuff to do etc...I can tell you in detail via PM. The game, I think there's much more pressure on our team than in 2006. Back then, making it to the semis was a positive surprise. No one expected that. Now, it's completly different. For the last two years, media and fans only speculated about how we could beat Spain, and that Löws approach on that is completely different from everyone elses. Also, this is the best German NT since 1990. We have players like Reus, Götze, Schürrle, Klose, Mertesacker, Gündogan. And they're on the bench! Italy is good, and if we wouldn't play the past as well, I'm quite confident we should win. Löw has so many great options, but Italy is Italy and probably the only team Germany fears.

Oh, and hopefully this time the italian media won't come up with some silly pics to suspend one of our key players like in 06. I'm still convinced: With Frings, we would have won that game!
