Personally I don't believe that Berlo could be convinced into doing something that he's opposed to. But like you I don't know what happened, but if it's wasn't after Istanbul, then he had plenty of opportunites to fire Carlo after that but he hasn't.
His words in difficult times don't show that but he has claimed quite a few times in the past that he does not think he knows better than those that run the club and that they have to cool him down because he is impulsive. He has also said that Galliani, Baresi, Maldini, van Basten, Inzaghi and Kaka who he has had several talks with have convinced him over the years to change his decision about three different coaches. I'm sure one of those was Ancelotti at that particular time.
