Looking at purely quantatively, based on money spent by Maladni and Massara they spent total of 224M. Below is the list with what I think the rating of the transfer out of 10

Rade Krunic from?Empoli?? ?8.6m-"(6)
Theo Hernandez from Real Madrid ? ?22.8m-"(10)
Rafael Leao from Lille ? ?29.5m-"(10)
Ismael Bennacer from Empoli ? ?17.2m-"(10)
Ante Rebic from Eintracht Frankfurt ? ?7m-"(6)
Zlatan Ibrahimovic ? Free agent-"(8)
Alexis Saelemakers from Anderlecht ? ?10m-"(6)
Asmir Begovic from Bournemouth ? Loan-"(0)
Simon Kjaer from Sevilla ? ?3.6m-"(10)
Pierre Kalulu from Lyon ? ?1m-"(8)
Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid ? loan-"(6)
Sandro Tonali from Brescia ? ?19.5m-"(10)
Ciprian Tatarusanu from Lyon ? ?1m-"(6)
Jens Petter Hauge from Bodo/Glimt ? ?4.8m-"(6)
Soualiho Me?t? from?Torino?? loan-"(0)
Diogo Dalot from Man Utd ? loan-"(4)
Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea ? ?31m-"(10)
Mario Mandzukic ? Free transfer-"(0)
Mike Maignan from Lille ? ?15.4m-"(10)
Alessandro Florenzi from?Roma?? ?2.7m-"(6)
Olivier Giroud from Chelsea ? ?3m-"(8)
Fod? Ballo Tour? from Monaco ? ?5.4m-"(2)
Pietro Pellegri from Monaco ? loan-"(0)
Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea ? loan-"(0)
Antonio Mirante ? Free transfer-"(4)
Junior Messias from Crotone-"(6)
Marko Lazetic from Red Star ? ?4.5m-"(4)
Yacine Adli from Bordeaux ? ?10m-"(2)
Divock Origi ? Free transfer-"(0)
Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge ? ?32m-"(4)
Malick Thiaw ? Loan with option to buy from Schalke 04-"(10)
Aster Vranckx ? Loan with option to buy from Wolfsburg-"(2)
Sergino Dest ? Loan with option to buy from Barcelona-"(0)
Devis Vasquez from Guaran? ? ?470k-"(0)

That averages out to 5.2 out of 10 for me for transfers in Budget instability (especially in the last market has been a major problem). But then we need to factor out the fact that we lost 2 players (am ignoring hakan) Kessie and Donna for free because could not negotiate contracts. At a minimum these two sales could have potentially bought 70 to 90 million.

Yes the timing and way this happened should have been different. But I believe there was a huge gap between owners and Maldini. And we need to keep one thing in mind as well. We failed to achieve our minimal objective this season that is 4th position. Thanks to Juve, we have been lucky. But unfortunately it will be another long summer now as we will just be building on the new Moneyball strategy. Lets hope for the best, but I think it will be very difficult for us. At least we don't have any major contract negotiations to go through this summer.

To be quite honest, I consider Hernandez the only true Maldini pick. Leao was a player Boban insisted on, many others came with Moncada and his scouting.

Of course Milan is Maldini and Maldini is Milan and this is were the owners made a big gamble with the fans.

But other then this huge sign of disrespect and misunderstanding of how great clubs function, I am not sure losing Maldini is that big of a loss. I agree that Pioli should have got the axe instead, but it was always (for me) between the two of them; one simply had to go.

From a business perspective Milan has been doing a bad job for years. Losing players like Donnarumma, Kessie, Suso or Hakan for nothing/with no capital gain is surely not a great reference. Not being able to sell players at the right time and for the right price (Castillejo, Rebić, Alexis) or keeping them even though they are clearly not good enough (Tatarusanu, Ballo-Toure) just adds up to the problem.

It is clear that Milan is going to concentrate on building a stadium. This is very important for our financial and commercial success. Han mentions Invescorp, but the reality is we do not know nearly enough and we also cannot that easily predict what kind of owners they would have been. Yes, the American way is not the right path; but building a feasible sporting and business enterprise is the (only true) strategy - unless you have a Arabian/Asian buyer who is going to invest crazy sums.

I don't really think that's how it works. Good signings like Theo, Tomori, Maignan, Bennacer, Tonali, Leao etc. far overweigh bad signings like Ballo-Toure, Origi, Messias etc. You cannot weigh them equally, because the contribution in positive of those good signings has been far more important than the contribution in negative of the rest.

It doesn't matter who chose who. This Milan was built around Maldini as technical director. He was the key management man, and a lot of the success we have achieved has to be attributed to him. I think that goes without saying.

Anyway, as far as this mercato goes, considering the names that are being thrown around, I'd go:

Ndicka - free agent
Tielemans - free agent
Milinkovic-Savic - 30m
Kamada - free agent
Chukwueze - 20m
Thuram - free agent

Very doable.

Yes, there have been serious errors made and last summer was abhorrent to say the least, but Paolo has basically been working with both hands tied behind his back. The last time a decent transfer budget was allocated was when Leonardo was here, last summer was basically ruined by the needless back and forth with their contracts.

The Kessie and Donna, heck even Hakan contract situations were also egregious. We got away with the Donna one but not the others. Not to mention we lost about 120m worth of players there.. But once again, this is not because Paolo was stingy with the offers. He has a salary cap he must adhere to. This is why American ownership is bad for football. If you want to apply a salary cap, fine. But expect to lose players in the process. The mistakes were made by letting all 3 of them run them down. All should have been moved on earlier when it was clear they were going to be a problem. That's where I lay the blame with Polo and Massara.

Pioli should have gone either way. It is clear that that he has dug himself into a hole that he cannot get out of. He's out of ideas and the team has grown stagnant.

Tielemans off to Villa
Thuram wants a higher salary than what we gave to Leao according to Di Marzio, so not gonna happen

I honestly think the media is blowing smoke up our @sses right now and throwing around names that are more up Moncada's alley

Let's see. But if those names you listed were truly our targets, we already lost 3 of them, so that's already a sh!t start

One good thing from this is some of the previous links have died. Like Loftus-Cheek for example. He's have been money down the drain.

Didn't deserve to lose. City were sh*t. Inter were incredibly unlucky. Lukaku's miss in the end reminded me of Sheva's miss in 2005.

I was all the way in for Inter this time. They were the better side yesterday. Also, even though Inter is our rival, I will never ever find myself on the side of clubs like City.
