This Cardinale chap just nudged Milan into an ?unknown?.

I would not be surprised when the key players ask for a transfer. As this guy just unwinded all the good work put in to build this core, as if Maldini and Massara formed the glue that kept this core intact.

Every summer we do something stupid like this. Theo, Mike and Leao have already reacted negatively to this. Last year so much time was wasted with this takeover and then the new owners is not willing to spend as well. Its always one step forward and two backwards.

Ok, let's say I'm new to Milan - what tangible and proven benefits did Maldini bring to the club in his position, aside looking handsome in his director's chair.

Its more the intangible aspect here.

Maldini leaving in this manner would have devastating consequences for the team; such that Leao, Theo, Tonali and Maignan are reported to be shocked by this. Had Cardinale relieved Maldini by mutual consent, then we wouldnt be here talking about this. Its how he was fired that will have ripple effects.

Now granted Maldini did not bring something tangible; aside from putting together a Scudetto winning team and one that reached far and beyond our expectations in Europe.

How responsible was he for the product on the pitch? Surely that is based on the manager? And the product on the pitch wasn't the best. What we achieved was well above our means, including the Scudetto. How Inter are in the UCL final I will never know, they are the worst team since Monaco and maybe Spurs to get there.

I do agree that firing such a figurehead is dramatic and not great for morale. And yes, the four you mention are among our prize assets.

Here's an interesting read about the whole fiasco & how the relationship between Maldini & Cardinale seemed to have deteriorated.

Going by purely what I am seeing, Maldini was a fail. He needed to go - his reputation preceded him and he gets slack from fans for who he is, but Origi and CDK really were horrible signings. Him rating last season an 8/10 shows how deluded he is.

Legend on the pitch, less so off it, but if we're going to grow as a club and compete with the PSGs, Cities and Napolis, teams with money, we do have to go the moneyballs route.

So you are all stunned? But why? Haven't we all agreed that last summer we made almost every possible wrong decision? Did we not complain about squad depth and squad quality?

And reading that Maldini was ready to sack Pioli and hire Pirlo of all people is also a big minus.

Players will settle in fast, especially if the management keep Ibra in the team with some role. Giving Pioli more say in transfers and signings also makes sense.

But the way Cardinale treated Maldini is still irking and shows how little the Americans understand football culture and ways of a big club.

Maldini wanting to sack Pioli is pure BS. How can you believe that?

Last summer we didn't make every possible wrong decision. For a 50m budget Maldini achieved the maximum possible. It's not his fault that players like CDK and Origi didn't leave up to expectations, or that players like Adli and Vranckx were completely ignored by Pioli.

It's the ownership that is to be blamed here. They're the ones that provide the capital. Maldini has shown in these last 4-5 years that he's very capable at making mercato. He practically built a Scudetto winning team with scraps.

1 bad summer which was mired in BS created by the ownership should not be the barometer imo. Cardinale rubbed me the wrong way from day 1.

I said it then and I say it now. We got f@cked over in another takeover thanks to greedy ownership. Elliot ditched Investcorp because RedBird let them keep a small share and a board member. Just like Silvio chose Yong Hong f@cking Lee, a guy who is literally a ghost in China because he offered the most cash.

I wanted to take a few days before coming here an spamming you all with long winded posts because I thought me head was about to explode when news first started filtering in.

It is clear that the issue was about budget. Paolo has been vocal multiple times in the media about needing to take a step in quality. That can only happen if your budget is better than that of a mid-table side.

Yes, last summer was a failure, but that failure was first and foremost down to the ownership, not to Maldini and Massara. Our summer was literally ruined by the contract negotiations for them which they only signed at the 11th hour. American ownerships have no clue about how football teams are run. They think it's like their idiotic franchises in the NBA/NFL/MLB (sry for those who are fans) where you actually get rewarded for failure with not potential consequences of relegation. In football you have to spend if you want to be successful. Especially if you invested in a tam outside the EPL where TV money is sh!t.

Anyway, sorry for still making a long post. Just still so mad. At least we did not lose Moncada as well and it looks like they're going to give him a bigger role, which is something that at least gives me hope as the guy has a seriously good eye for talent.

What I found the most funny in all of this is that they apparently have full faith in Pioli. The guy that has clearly lost his way with this team and seems like has no more left to give. We lost to teams who are now relegated or are in relegation play-offs... Do not tell me that is down to a bad summer by Maldini

We had the worst month in the club's entire history!!

There are top coaches available this summer and they're going to keep Pioli...

I have an inkling that they're only keeping him so that if things start going south during the season they can have an easy scapegoat.
