QUOTE (William405 @ Jul 21 2023, 10:11 PM) Thanks for the corrections! I agree with your points here. It's not really fair to compare this midfield to the one two years ago. I would prefer you compare it with last year's midfield where Tonali was great, but there wasn't much stability nearby him. However, for sure, I didn't really factor in Bennacer's injury here, which is a huge point. It does raise the need for a new DM. We certainly do have the budget to go for it. And since all areas are pretty much covered, seems like the obvious next signing. Let's see!
I hope we sell Messias. I think he has market value, he isn't a terrible player by any means, just not Milan level.
How would you rate the Mercato? Do you think we have a better squad in general? Do you think we're more competitive for the Scudetto? For me, a DM and a back up LB and we're done in terms of incomings. That would make it a 10/10 mercato for me. Yes, we sacrificed Tonali. But we improved the attack significantly and most importantly our squad as a whole is going to be much much stroner. Last season as soon as we lost a single player from the starting 11, we were done. I think all the signings we've brought in will have fixed that. A promising back up for Theo for me is a must as well. Someone who has upside and can take over from Theo in the future would be the most ideal rather than a stop gap. Re the midfield, yes, comparing to last season, I won't say it's better, but it's not worse either. Tonali had some bad stretches of games as well last season, he was just as atrocious as the others during that bad stretch in January and February. Quality wise, I woud say we're on par or slightly better than last season. But my main worry is that we've lost so much of the physicality we had there. Starting with Kessie and now Tonali. Honestly, I would just try to get Frank back from Barca on loan + option. He'd be the best solution for us, not to mention instantly make us favorites for the title as he would complete our squad and provide the balance we lack atm QUOTE (X-Offender @ Jul 21 2023, 11:38 PM) A DM is definitely coming as well. Musah has been heavily linked but he's mostly played as CM/RM for Valencia.
But what a day it was today. Firstly Okafor out of the blue, then Chukuwueze almost a done deal. We are bringing so much needed depth and quality to this team, Pioli has no more excuses. Musah is box-to-box as well from what I can tell based on the vids I've seen of him. Plus, I've read and listened to a few podcasts where Americans spoke about him, and the main point they all made about him is that he's still very raw, which is understandable considering he's only 20. But we cannot count on him as our sole DM, when he's not even a pure one. Aside from the DM issue. Totally agree with you. A very good mercato so far. Pioli better deliver, I think this post Paolo management will be ruthless with the axe

Considering how efficient we've been with signing players, I hope we're just as efficient with selling
Let's not haggle over 1 or 2m for Messias and Origi. We need them all gone ASAP.
All are on bloated wages and they're bloating the squad as well.
Be ruthless with them and make it clear they have no place in the squad.
I don't feel good about doing the same to Rebic, because he's given us some great moments over the years but he's been checked out for a while now and he needs to go as well.
Ballo Toure Gabbia Caldara (my god, he's still a milan player, thank you William for reminding me...) Origi Rebic Messias
Should all be moved on
Hopefully we can make 20m - 25m off of them

Just jumping back in, I forgot to mention one player in my last post for the outgoings
We really have to consider CDK here. I fail to see where he will find any space and his value is just going to keep bottoming out
Any decent offer around 20m we should jump on it
Usually in such cases I would say give him more time. But I think we all saw last season that he is just not cut out to be a Milan player. So soft, weak, slow, indecisive. Just not good enough. Doesn't even put in effort like Brahim did, who might have gotten knocked over countless times but he always got back up and ran his @ss off. I can't even say that about Charles
If we can sell him for around 20m+ that would put our net spend back in the black, even after revamping the midfield and attack. We really need to try shopping him around the PL and make it clear to him that there won't be much space. He's too young to waste another season sitting

Either loan him out or give him another chance. Regardless, he weighs 28m as it stands right now in our books. No inferior offers will ever be accepted to avoid a loss.

No inferior offers will ever be accepted to avoid a loss. He'll get even less time next season as things stand and he does not strike me as the type of player to be motivated my even more competition And I dismiss him this quickly because I saw enough last season and the longer we keep him, the more his value will plummet

QUOTE (William405 @ Jul 22 2023, 06:24 PM) We should really get Kessie!! He's available on loan and he only would cost 15 million! We should bite the bullet and sign him back. Right?? Will give us back the balance we've missed since he's been gone If the rumors are true and Juve are going for him we should jump on that ASAP

QUOTE (X-Offender @ Jul 22 2023, 10:37 PM) I think you're all forgetting something. Kessie earns 6.5m at Barca. Juve have no problem paying him that amount, but no way we're ever going to do so.
And to be honest, I've never been a fan of Kessie. So for me is a big no. He gave us balance and the ability to play how Pioli wanted. Last season was a major drop off for us in part (a major one imo) due to him If not him then we have to find someone similar. Yes the salary is steep, but Juve aren't going to pay that either. It will probably be split between Barca and the club he's loaned at
