Messi is so undervalued then. according to wikipedia, Ronaldo's is €1 billion. (IMG:

Silly money for both. I'm not even going to entertain the nonsense of a billion for a footballer.

We're not talking about fantasy buyout clauses no club would meet though, we're talking about realistic transfer fees. Ronaldo cost Madrid £80 million so £50 million for Silva is pretty high.
Entirely true, but Ronaldo's cost was because of his importance to Utd and Madrid had the wealth. Silva is similarly crucial to us, and the world's most expensive defender, after all these years, remains Utd's Ferdinand. £30M - so in the modern crazy market, where insane prices are put in contracts, it's not hard to believe that £30M would be broken by some distance for a Barca or City or whoever to secure a defender as good and valuable as Silva.

EDIT: but as Jack said, selling Silva wouldn't necessarily mean a stronger team as we saw with Kaka and Sheva. I just got carried away a bit, we must not sell Silva at any price!
There are no circumstances under which selling Silva will strengthen us, because automatically our defence will weaken massively. The money doesn't matter - the only way we can even break even by selling Silva is by gaining Kompany. They're probably the best 2 around. And obviously we're not signing Kompany. So, selling Silva is a lose lose situation, despite a potentially huge price tag.

Kolarov is my dream LB signing. not the best in the world, but would do the trick for us. I'm fed up with the mediocrity of our fullbacks.
They're bland as hell. Kolarov would be a great signing on top of Montolivo. We badly need top class in the team.
