Okay. First weekend of games is over. Hard to really see what a team's about after one week, but it gives you an idea.
United - Played against a poor team at home (with 10 men for 20 minutes) and failed to win. Suffering Arsenalitis, trying to score the perfect goal too often.
Chelsea - I always wondered whether their superb defensive record was because of Cech or Terry. Today answered it, Terry. Awful defensively against a poor team. Malouda looks a top signing - Champions.
Liverpool - Started off with 3 points for a change, only team of the top 4 to play away, only team of the top 4 to play a decent side. Still won. Not enough for Champions though.
Arsenal - A dubious penalty and a last minute winner means nothing when you play average for 90 minutes. Arsenal fans should be pleased with the result, not the performance. van Persie will have to carry them all year long.
Spurs - Tipped as the team to break into the top 4. Didn't even look like a top 10 team. Berbatov was very poor, missing alot of defenders though. 4th/5th finish still very likely.
Man City - Sven's teams have always been very hard to beat. All his new signings performed very well, expect Man City to be hard to beat, they'll draw too many to get into Europe though.
Villa - Losing to a team that made the CL Final, which was then improved by £40m isn't anything to be ashamed of. Will have to put it behind them quickly, big game against Newcastle next week.
Newcastle - Great result, Martins looked superb.. But it was against a very weak Bolton team. They'll improve alot on last year, top 10 for sure, fight for Europe.
Everton - Beat Wigan at home as expected, nothing more. West Ham - Lost at home to Man City. Tipped as high flyers this season, no chance. Bolton - UEFA Cup may get in the way of the Premiership, struggle for top 10. Blackburn - Good win at Boro, Santa Cruz looks a nice signing - Top 10 is realistic. Portsmouth - Broke their transfer record 3 times this summer. Hard to beat, will be close to the top 10, not quite though. Boro - Always finish low/mid table, they could be in big trouble this year, they're just plain awful. Reading - Teams that fly high in their first season often struggle or get relegated the next - Exactly what will happen. Sunderland - Superb win on opening day. Spurs were poor for their standards, wouldn't get carried away. Fulham - Unlucky not to get anything from Arsenal, can't see them being in much of a relgeation battle. Birmingham - High expectations, average team, crap keeper. Won't be relegated, won't be far off though. Wigan - Expected to lose at Everton, struggled to stay up last year, no decent signings - Relegated. Derby - We're average in the Championship, fluked through the play-offs, made no big signings and got a draw opening day. May break the record for lowest total points in EPL history.

Just think Chelsea need to improve A LOT to be Champs, specially in that flat 4-4-2 and that Liverpool squad is enough to be Champ - they've a better one than United last year. Arsenal and Liverpool do not play in mid-week due to CL 3rd PRE. United visit Pompey and Chelsea's Reading stadium on Wednesday.

I already see Man U relenquishing their crown to Chelsea on the first few opening weeks imo.
Because that's how the EPL is being won these days. If the team doesn't steam roll through the league in the first couple of weeks then there is no way to catch up.
Like Chelsea last season they lost it during the Christmas period. Man U will screw it up this season and if they don't pick up pace they might just lose it as early as the first 2 months

QUOTE Rooney fractures foot in opener(IMG: http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/44054000/jpg/_44054226_rooney_pain203.jpg) Rooney seems certain to miss England's Euro 2008 qualifiers in September England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hairline fracture of his left foot. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...utd/6943283.stm I don't like ManUtd and love when they lose. But I hope Rooney gets well soon. He had a nice pre-season and everybody is expecting a top-season from him. United next fixtures: 15/8 : Pompey (A) 19/8 : City (A) 26/8 : Spurs (H) 01/9 : Sunderland (H) 15/9 : Everton (A) 23/9 : Chelsea (H)
