Quite natural when you're talking about the 3rd and the 6th in the League. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I talk about a team that has a reserved place for every season's CL quarter-finals and one that hasn't played in that competition since the 2003/2004 season and hasn't had a respectable campaign in it since time immemorial...

Enough discussion guys. We lost and there is no point crying over it. Being optimistic is one thing but being realistic is another. Milan had no chance of winning this derby. Inter > milan. They are a much stronger team than us and have shown it all season long. We can say wow we made it to the QF of CL, but comparing Valencia to celtic is a different story. Sure we beat celtic and inter lost to valencia but if it was opposite we would have gotten *****. We lost two them twice this season and it hurts alot, however we shouldn't care one bit about it. We lost, so what? Who cares if they have beaten us and let them talk all they want. If milan get to 4th place thats all i care about. Inter can get 100 points for all i care. Beating bayern will be a mission impossible in our current state and in order to have a chance against them we must out smart them tactically and on the pitch with smart passes and setup plays. Our goal against inter was not even set up, ronaldo scored out of brilliance. Defenitaly we need to recap and figure out a way to produce higher quality chances to our sh!tty forewards excluding ronaldo. Silvio better use the summer market to his advantage or expect a repeat next year.

Also about Oddo i think he is a great player, but we gotta cut him and maldini some slack. They are extremely tired and it was Oddo's first Milan derby. These derbys have alot of emotional strain on the players. He is a great RB and i think he is a very suitable RB for milan. I think he played great against celtic and did his part in todays game.

@Bluesummers ... U r very wrong about the CL .. It is a different competition and it is Milans ! Celtic and Valencia have different charecteristics. I mean Bayern beat Inter in the San Siro this season, while last night Bayern got a draw from Bremen. And Bremen are a similar side to Valencia, so u never know in the CL it is down to the best tactician and Carlo almost always has the upper hand in the knock out stages.

If Milan pass Bayern, they will reach the final. The problem is, Carlo has to prepare the right team to face Bayern in April.

on paper we inter are a lot better, especially when we play with one striker but anything can happen in football. In the end we did have a lead and had our def played half decent we would have won.

Do you honestly believe that? If we advance, we will face either Roma or ManU, who are both in better form than we are right now.

well that's right now... then we'll have Nesta and Sergio back plus CL is a different story.. it really could come down to luck and determination to win those matches.

I hate losing to Inter as much as anyone here but let's consider a few things:

1) Inter are, it pains me to say, by far the best domestic team in Europe at the moment. A narrow loss to them is not the end of the world.

2) This is our first loss in how many games? I think it is about 15 league matches. We have had a run of good results, including late winners against Siena and Sampdoria. Losing is a part of football. It's how you recover from it that counts. We need to forget about the derby and get the points against Atalanta.

3) The result was not the humiliation that some have claimed. 3-0 or 4-1 in the last derby would have been a humiliation, but thankfully we didn't give in and fought back hard. 6-0 is a humiliation!

4) We got lucky with Lucarelli scoring an injury time equaliser against Empoli. That might prove to be critical in the final wash up for fourth place.

5) If at the start of the week you had to choose between Milan advancing past Celtic to make the CL quarters and losing the derby, or getting knocked out of the CL and beating Inter, what would you have chosen? I probably would have chosen the former (although winning both would have been preferable!). So it has not been the worst week ever!

It's always disappointing to lose after being up at half time, and Gattuso could almost have sealed it if he managed to take his chance. But we outpossessed them (according to the stats on Soccernet it was 54% to 46%) and created enough opportunities to win it, so it is not all doom and gloom. I'm not trying to paper over the cracks, we desperately need to improve our squad- particularly in regards to the defence and attack. But let's not give up on 4th place yet. Lazio and Empoli are playing each other next week and all of our rivals for 4th still need to play Inter, so plenty of opportunities for us to make up ground.

Our squad might not be that great but they are what we have for the remainder of the season. Let's get beyond our boys and support them to the end.

MILAN NEVER GIVES UP!

QUOTE (Portugal @ Mar 11 2007, 05:59 PM)
Oddo - 5.5 - He tried.
Bonera - 1 - Good to play vs. Siena. Not again quality strikers.
Maldini - 1 - I'm ashamed of his match. He should really retire. We miss Nesta so much.
Jankulovki - 1 - Lost many balls.
*

Just for the record and because many people read these forums without having watched the matches:

Oddo was crap. He was much worse than a 5.5. He was Figo's b!tch throughout the whole match.

Bonera did only make one bad clearence near the beginning of the game. That was his only mistake, other than that, he was excellent!

Of course we miss Nesta. But please calm down. If you can't control your anger then don't post after losing a game. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) You said "Ibra did anything he wanted to Maldini"... well if you watch the game again (I just did) you will see that Maldini only lost him once when Ibra set up Cruz's goal. And it was down the flank! That was Janku's fault for not being in his position! You can't expect from Paolo to catch Ibra down the flank, in fact only Alves can maybe stop him there! Now I'd be the first one to say Maldini must retire, as I've been saying for Costacurta for 5 years now, cause I wouldn't want to see him scrap his image. And to tell you the truth, I DO want Maldini to retire but yesterday's game is certainly NOT the reason for it!! Cause if Maldini should retire for losing sight of Ibra once then the whole Inter squad must be executed for the countless times they were left staring at him!

Jankulovski and Ambrosini were our worst players by far. Janku is responsible for both goals we conceded and for handing Crespo a perfectly clear chance in the first half.

I'm more upset than angry, that's why I haven't posted before.

I got a few things wrong before the start of this game: the fact we played the xmas tree (I didn't think we would but Portugal was right) it didn't occur to me that we'd be tired after Celtic (how dumb was that?) and basically that we lost. Had a really strong feeling we'd win. Losing or drawing weren't even an option in my mind. And for the most part - when we really needed a good performance/win, more often than not we got it!

Maybe we should sign him then (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) is he a RB or LB?

I don't think there were any worst players, we played bad collectively!

I don't know if he should or not because on one hand he's not doing us any favours to hold on, we need to move on and prepare a defense without him. On the other hand the contribution he gives to the team on & off the pitch is immense, if he retires he won't be involved anymore. It's a never ending question because of his fitness levels/his knee.

I think Did...a poo was as much to blame for the 1st goal as our defense. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) I hope he only extended to get us some extra pocket money but it's not likely. We NEED Buffon as no.1! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/king.gif) The trio sound like they're up for making it happen but Ancelotti said it's not gonna happen. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

Daniel Alves is the best RB in the world. He's a Sevilla player. You sure you don't know him?? It's said that Milan as well as Chelski and Barcelona are interested in signing him... If there's a duel for him then we probably won't sign him. We'll either get Zambrotta or... nothing!

Contrariwise, I think we had a good game collectively but payed the price for individual mistakes. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

Maldini is always on my mind. My thought concerning his retirement is kinda delusive... I can't come up with where I want him to be next season but at the moment I think his departure would be best for both sides... (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (Not that if he stays it'll be a bad thing but maybe it's best if he goes...)

It was clearly the defence's mistake for me. Maybe Buffon could have taken a better deflection (not sure about that either) but I don't blame Dida for it.
