Milan have refused to speculate on when Alessandro Nesta will be back in action after he went under the knife on Monday.

The Italian international could be sidelined for something close to three months or even longer, but the club are making no predictions at this moment in time.

“Alessandro Nesta underwent shoulder surgery at the Madonnina clinic in Milan this morning,” read an official statement.

“The club will evaluate his recovery time over the next few days.”

The former Lazio symbol has been struggling with fitness for some time after damaging ligaments in his left shoulder.

Meanwhile, teammate Serginho will undergo a hernia operation on Tuesday which may bring his career to an end.

The Brazilian could be ruled out for the season and it is not yet known whether the veteran will be handed a new deal.

The loss of Nesta and Serginho could now see the Italian giants make a move in the January transfer market.

Although they have been associated with a striker, Vice-President Adriano Galliani today admitted a new stopper may arrive after Christmas.

“It is not true that we are after a forward,” he stated. “We are evaluating whether we will need a new face to deal with the absence of Serginho and Nesta.

“Their loss may see us turn to a defender.”

It is unclear at this stage who they could target, especially if they are after a player who would be eligible for the Champions League.

Serginho could be out for the whole season (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Noooo !!!!!!!! His career had ended !!! I cant think it !!!!

Now that he isn't on the field, his place is deffinately missed; plus w/ the players that are out there, I don't think any would be able to match his speed+crossing abilities, above all his experience and precision !!! Damn I miss him ! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Speed yeah, crossing abilities... rearely experienced them... he usually had 5 bad and 1 good cross... but yeah we miss his pace. It would be a pity if he'd have to go out like this! (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Really ? I have yet to see him create asmuch chances as Sergio ..

I really miss this guy, he was our entire left flank !!! Interesting to find out who they will bring in to replace him

No way, our left flank was always our best weapon, thanks to Seedorf plus Sergi, Janku or even Khala, and when I look the those 3 guys, I think, and that's just my opinion, that Janku is the best in both attack and defense! And the fact that he is much more accurate than Sergi or Khala is so obvious (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Janku and Sergio are very different, Janku has better crossing ability and they are more precise then Sergio's. While Sergio had speed he can command that flank with his pace, plus he has the ability to easily beet at least 2 players while going on his mazy runs down the flank.

imo Sergio was more influential for us, and we are definately missing him more then some thought we would.

I would go for a fast Brazilian to replace him, defencive abilities or not we need that sort of player to give us width because of the formation we play

This is very sad , cause nesta will be out at least for 3 months, and sergio, perhaps can end his career aftr this, marek is a good player , but if you want to have a good efective winger, it should be fast, and sergio.. damm he was fast.
