QUOTE (acid911 @ Aug 9 2014, 02:38 PM) Not pleased though, should have gone with Perin. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) Future proofing. Genoa connection. Better keeper too. Then again, there is some reason for joy here, we rarely pay attention to the goalkeeper position during transfer windows. We needed a new one five years back, like, in 2009. Perin isn't a better keeper than Diego Lopez, he's got a looooooong way before he can reach that level imo. He's all about potential atm, that's his only plus over Lopez who's already 32 (turns 33 in November)

QUOTE (Danny @ Aug 9 2014, 03:30 PM) Lopez is a weird signing. He's been keeping goal for Madrid for 2 seasons but it's always been controversial with it being over Casillas.
He has one sodding cap for Spain, and wasn't even part of Madrid's CL win.
He's a good age, and I guess being Real Madrid's first choice (controversially) makes him not the worst keeper around, but it's just a strange situation altogether. It was controversial because Casillas is the golden child over there, but if you strip away the politics of it all, it was always the right call. There's a reason as to why TWO world class coaches chose him over Casillas

QUOTE (Danny @ Aug 9 2014, 03:41 PM) Ok, then why has he only one cap to Casillas' 8078? Good question. One that I can't answer. Both Valdes and him were better last season imo, yet Casillas was still the starter for Spain in the WC and probably made the most goalkeeping errors in the tournament with only just 3 games played.

Some more good news
@Milanello - Abate, De Jong and Mexes are set for contract renewal talks in the upcoming weeks. Mexes will most likely have to spread his current annual salary over two years, while Abate and De Jong could get a slight salary increase.
