Dunno. If he was that bad, City wouldn't have paid €23 million to sign him, and he wouldn't be a regular in the Dutch NT. I think he'll do fine with us.

City paid 20m Euros for Roque Santa Cruz, over 30m Euros for Adebayor. Don't think using price there is a great case.

Not that the Dutch NT performance was that great, but they did play De Jong and not Strootman

It looks like City initially offered De Jong to Inter in a swap with Maicon, but the nerazzurri declined. [Sky]

If I am not mistaken, Inter dropped their interest in De Jong about the time the Cassano / Pazzini swap was made. I wonder if that is a coincidence.

QUOTE (han2503 @ Aug 29 2012, 05:23 PM) *
The argument about whether those contracts should have been renewed has nothing to do with FFP. We all know that Galliani put sentimentality first when it suited him and handing those contracts was self-indulgent more then anything else.

Like I said, the players had shown a clear decline during that season and everyone could see how they were already struggling, hence the terrible domestic performance of that season (barely go the 4th spot if you need reminding). Those players only put in great performances in an astounding total of about 5 games that season, and even then, without Kaka performing to super human standards, we wouldn't have won that CL.

It's not about hindsight. but looking at what's in front of you and accepting that certain players no longer deserved the contracts they got

I am sorry, but you missed my point entirely. In any case, I am done arguing about this, it feels rather pointless to me.

Maybe that's an edge we got from the swap. But even if...it stays a bad deal.

NT? Didn't you guys watch the Euros? De Jong really didn't do any good for Holland.

None of the players did any good for Holland...

I think he's a decent player and we absolutely need a DM so we can't afford to be too picky it being the last 2 days of the transfer window and all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I'm curious about Kaka though. We all know he's leaving Real 100%, I just don't believe that it's really a closed door

I think he only wants Milan. Why would he move to United, as some media suggest? If we sign Kaka as well as Krkić, I think we can call it a solid last minute save.

Kaka, Krkic and De Jong would make it decent. Kaka alone wouldn't save us, as more than anything else we need some defensive stability.

One thing I managed to miss - how are Krkić and De Jong with injuries so far?

I wondering if Bojan has some fitness issues. By my count he's only played a full game in the league 27 times in his career. That's a pretty low number for someone who's been around 5 years.

Bojan has chosen shirt #22, so it's bye-bye to Kaká for definite.

Not many, but I don't think the number will/is decisive. It may be just another "diplomatic" trick.
