QUOTE (Fillipo Simone @ Aug 29 2012, 04:04 PM) No, if taking De Jong means our DM situation will be solved with him for the next 3-4 years. This is not cherry picking players, I honestly think that Ambrosini can do this job much better. Ambro can barely hold it together for half a game these days. I'd personally prefer Diarra, but if De Jong is the only option than it's acceptable

QUOTE (han2503 @ Aug 29 2012, 04:47 PM) I'll quote this again in case you missed it
It's not abot hindsight. It was obvious that the majority of those players were no longer up to it. Putting in a majority of 5 really good performances throughout an entire season to win the CL did not mean that they should have been given the extension they were given, period! Easy to see this now, harder back then (Inter made similar mistakes a couple of years ago). Also, if you read the FFP entry in wikipedia, it will explain that that there was another key factor that resulted in a significant reduction in TV revenues. Bottom line, these situations are never black and white, there always are multiple factors involved.

QUOTE (Forza Milan! @ Aug 29 2012, 04:11 PM) Easy to see this now, harder back then (Inter made similar mistakes a couple of years ago). Also, if you read the FFP entry in wikipedia, it will explain that that there was another key factor that resulted in a significant reduction in TV revenues. Bottom line, these situations are never black and white, there always are multiple factors involved. The argument about whether those contracts should have been renewed has nothing to do with FFP. We all know that Galliani put sentimentality first when it suited him and handing those contracts was self-indulgent more then anything else. Like I said, the players had shown a clear decline during that season and everyone could see how they were already struggling, hence the terrible domestic performance of that season (barely go the 4th spot if you need reminding). Those players only put in great performances in an astounding total of about 5 games that season, and even then, without Kaka performing to super human standards, we wouldn't have won that CL. It's not about hindsight. but looking at what's in front of you and accepting that certain players no longer deserved the contracts they got

I don't think so. And even if this is a transitional period - why don't we sign someone younger like Strootman? Surely his prize tag isn't that higher, is it?

I think De Jong might be good for us in Serie A. I believe he can play well at a slower pace while the speed of the game in the EPL makes him look worse than he is and clumsier.

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Aug 29 2012, 08:29 PM) (IMG: style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I'd maybe consider it if they offered us 9m to take him. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) this thought just came to my mind, do you think this could happen in a real managerial meeting? I mean... one team naming the price for a player and the manager from the buying team just not being able hold a laugh. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

If anyone can achieve this...it's Cassano (IMG: style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) QUOTE (Zed.D @ Aug 29 2012, 07:40 PM) Maybe because we have more than enough inexperienced kids already? at least De Jong has a bit of experience, and moreover, we know what we're getting with him. Strootman may be a talent but there's no guarantee he'll be a hit or the next Van Bommel for us. he's only played a couple of years in the Dutch league, I don't get why everyone is so obsessed with him. Yep, we're getting a pretty bad player. But you are alright, Strootman, just like Eriksen and Ganso before, are metaphors. What I don't get is why we don't buy a young and perspective DM around which we can build. With AM's and strikers it's hard, because in this insane world they're even in their teen-age expensive. But to buy a talented DM - usually doesn't take that much money.

IMO it's harder to find young prospects in positions like DM, CB, etc. I don't know, it's easier with strikers, if they show promise, there's a good chance of success, they're also more marketable. suitors are always there. but with DMs, you need time to tell whether they're the real deal or not. I think that's why we're going for an established player and NO, I disagree that De Jong is pretty bad.
