I was pissed at the result too, but tell me it's not easier to take a defeat like this in a pre-season friendly than in a CL quarter final. I think playing against one of the world's top 3 strongest teams with our crappy, crippled team was a mistake in the first place and Gllainai is at fault before anyone else. he better do his own business which was supposed to be adding a few good players to the team (I'm not gonna say "champions" even though that's what he said). and his angry interview isn't going to help the team in any way, it'll only put extra pressure on them and Allegri. another mistake from Baldy.

A friendly, in Italy I can understand.

This is a 60,000 packed stadium in NEW YORK. Definitely having US media coverage, lots of money but some place the football market has not been able to break.

And Real Madrid vs. AC Milan is never 'just a light' training match. That's why you face Olympia and all those other clubs, so Allegri can try out all the various tactics they want.

This is mostly to sell high-level European competition to the US audience and losing 5-1 does not do that.

Villa beat Inter 3-0 in a pre-season friendly, it happens and specifically it happens to Italian sides. It's generally a match fitness thing. EPL and La Liga start mid-August if I remember rightly, so they're reaching peak fitness weeks before Italian clubs.

Real has a world class side, from the starters down to their bench players. We don't even have half of the starting 11 that could be called world class FFS. We simply cannot compete with them.

I imagine if we didn't make changes and picked up injuries as a result Galliani would be labelling Max careless, etc.

We could have, if we had proceeded to keep putting in our weaker players on.

NOBODY is denying that if 23 players of Madrid stacked up, the 23 players of Milan are 3 levels below.

But the first XI is still IMO only about 30% worse than theirs. Provided we play smart.

But its' not the end of the world, and it would be stupid to blame Max.

We just need to move on, and work on the transfer market. Scudetto challenge is paramount otherwise we risk undoing all we've done.

It's not the scoreline Galliani is pissed off, it's the attitude from the coach. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) Agree with your bit about that this was no ordinary 'friendly' match. No offense intended, but labeling it as inconsequential is pretty laughable - just ask the fans around the world who wait years and years, and then travel and spend money to watch the show.

And like I said, this kind of a showing does not reflect good on us. Neither the 5-1 drubbing, nor the 9 subs that were made, or Cassano's walk in the park attitude, it just gives the wrong message to our sponsors. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) They'll just decrease the amount they pay us next time, or cut off ties altogether. Hence Galliani's anger.

Cassano's lack of fitness has been shocking to me. I gave him far too much credit in the beginning.
