Germany resting Muller, Gomez and Podolski. Just a tad disrespectful.

Actually, it wasn't resting. There was a lot of pressure on Löw to play Reus and Schürrle by the media since Müller wasn't that impressive thouout the first phase.

My own personal positive being that Lahm yet again costs Germany a goal.

Why would that be positive at all? Why that hate towards him?
I don't think both goals go on him, but you did forget to mention he scored, did you (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

The first one? That was Lahm. He was way out of position, let his guy in to put an an easy cross for a tap in.

Both were at fault. Lahm - out of position, Boateng lost Samaras.

About England vs Italy - a bit stupid argument imo. It's a 50-50 game, no result will be a surprise. Doesn't really matter which team played slightly better/worse in the group stage, KO stage is a different animal.

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Jun 22 2012, 10:45 PM) *
Based on what?

France: Had 1 shot pretty much and scored. Defended well, but created nothing all game and defended for 89 minutes.

Sweden: Solid first half, great last 20 minutes. First 25 minutes of the 2nd half was a disaster, we didn't touch the ball and conceeded 2 bad goals.

Ukraine: We had 3 chances all game, Ukraine completely dominated the first half.

I'd say we've been solid defensively for the most part, but I'd hardly say we've been encouraging and I usually try to find positives in the team, I just don't see it.

Part of me just thinks you're saying this so that when Italy win you can bring out "Even though England were the better team and favourites they choke as always, blah, blah.."

I think you're nit picking based on certain events in those particular games. Overall it was a solid showing from England. And so what if your team uses defence as their bases? It's obviously worked so far, just like it's worked for sides in the past were their teams clearly weren't favourites.

The defensive aspect of the game is what make me think England have the upper hand. Simply because Italy have been shaky in that respect, while goals aren't free flowing either.

Oh yes, and I'm saying Italy aren't the favourites so when they lose or win I'll have an excuse either way... It really doesn't matter to me. I think both team will have a huge mountain to climb come that semi final. I'm calling it how I see it based on the group stages. And I maintain that England had the better showings of the two.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) If we are being realistic it's 'reverse psychology'. If anyone says we could win it's 'arrogance'...

How did you work that one out? I'm presuming you didn't watch the England games and just looked at how many points we got and based your assumption on that. Italy did well against Spain (the current WC & Euro champions and arguably the best international side going) and were unlucky really not to win, Croatia are stern opposition as proven in recent Euro's, and they brushed aside Ireland after a fairly slow start.

On the other hand we played a rather out of sorts France side, who again haven't impressed this year. We got fortunate against Sweden with a deflection, to bring us back into it. Sure we did well to come back after being 2-1 down, but this is with all due respect Sweden, not a team like the Italians. Then we struggled big-time against a Ukranian side that lacked the star-man whom caused so much damage to the Swedes in the first game and one that this dysfunctional France side made look particularly ordinary.

Therefore, from what 'we' have seen, England are favourites? Riiigggghhhtt. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) +1

When I say arrogance I'm mostly talking about your press. The things I've read this week... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/puke.gif) inducing.

I watched all the games England played and all the games Italy played. And maybe yes, Italy had the harder opponents, but you can't overlook what England did in those group games. You guys didn't even think England would make it out of the group a few weeks ago! And now it's because your opponents weren't up to par?

It will be an even game, as I've said, but atm, I see England as having a slight edge, thus me labelling them as the favourites, ot by much but still favourites.

I dislike the overhype he gets honestly.

As a right back he's generally fine defensively and is outstanding going forward on both flanks. But as a left back he is caught out way too much. His odd great goal seems to cover over that though. His game vs Turkey in Euro 2008 was an awful display.. he scored and got MotM (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

England - 15/8
Draw - 21/10
Italy - 17/10

So Italy are the favourites.

As for our media, I've not even really noticed it to be honest. They seem to be all negative because their boy Dirty Harry didn't get the job so they dislike Roy.

To be honest that was because I expected more of France in the group stage who were clearly out of sorts again with internal bust-ups, and I still believe we were very fortunate to get out of our last game with a win, it certainly wasn't at a canter. I can't predict how well or how badly teams will play in a tournament you have to judge them almost on prior knowledge.

Though, as mentioned before getting out of the group was the big task, and we've done that so it's a great achievement.

Yep, or it's that 'reverse psychology' thing again.

Me neither (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

I think I read somewhere say Rooney thinks we can win the Euro's which I'd expect any player from any nation to do now. I mean Zoff said Italy are the favourites for Euro '12 too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Agree with everything you said han.. England have worked more as a team and even in their "unattractive/ defensive" approach to games they have shown a certain solidarity and perseverance that pulled them to the top of the group. At the end of the day, they won their f@cking group 3 points clear didn't they?

Italy have definitely shown signs of life, but in no way have shown the same consistency in their overall play as England. And that is enough to say England have been the better team so far between the two.

Tomorrow's game is very unpredictable for me to decide the outcome, but I see England as the better team thus far.

BTW, anyone else notice how much Prandelli's inexperience is showing on the big stage? He is pulling through, but man does he have a lot to learn.

Casillas is the best GK in the World. Buffon lost his confidence at some point and has never returned to his legendary form. On the other hand, Casillas has only gained in that department. Great to still be able to watch such amazing goalkeeping.

So far a best of Benzema - dives, fouls, sky-high shots (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

What a boring game.
