No, no Abate please. I don't see how this guy can contribute to Milan in any option. If you ask me, he's pure Cagliari/Chievo etc. material.

Antonini played bad, yes, but give him a slack. I think he was pushed in the match too fast. He's in fact our only LB option this season which puts not only much pressure on him but is very exhausting. He plays most of the matches and most of them till the end. So,..yes, he's bad, but no, he's no way weaker then Abate. Any half-good right winger or attacker can tear him into pieces.

But as a midfielder he can do fine, since we need lots of pace. No?Maybe even in my formation Ambrosini instead of Flamini.

Guys, Robinho was signed for the intent of using him as a back-up for Dinho and Pato in our 3-men attack. But, since we've switched to a playing style that involves three midfielders and a trequartista, Robinho becomes less necessary, unless he's used as a trequartista himself.

This season, we have to arrange with what we have (which is not bad, actually), but next season, when many contracts will expire, we have to invest a good amount on a pure AMC, and resolve our playing style problem once and for all: 4-3-1-2!

Personally I would like to see Milan play a 3-4-1-2 with abate and antonini running up and down the lanes prince/flamini & pirlo in the middle and dinho/robinho playing behind the 2 strikers.
But I wouldn't try that at an important game like Milan - Real Madrid.

Or you should try it vs Real so you have 5 defenders when no possession.

Pato - Zlatan
Pirlo
Antonini - Boateng - Gattuso - Abate
Thiago Silva - Nesta - Sokratis
Abbiati

This way Antonini and Abate can go over the flanks more often and their defensive liabilities are not a big problem anymore. Pirlo will do the playmaking, also he got some mates covering for him.

edit: I understand a 3-5-2 won't happen so change the on paper formation:

Pato - Zlatan
Pirlo
Boateng - Gattuso - Abate
Antonini - Thiago Silva - Nesta - Sokratis
Abbiati

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (edit II: Sokratis can be also Bonera, I could live with that)

True say. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) And to think I had high hopes for this guy, thinking that he can become the next great CB of Milan.

He's only 22, plenty of time to improve.

I was actually talking about Bonera, who is 29. And going in the wrong direction. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Sharing the same dressing room and training space with the likes of Maldini and Nesta should mean that a lot of their experience should rub on you, and frankly a player should improve his positional sense and game reading ability. I see little of that from him.

Part of that is probably because he has been horribly played out of position. I actually prefer him at CB. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) And our last two coaches have been playing him on the right side. That's horrible if you ask me!

Bonera's problem has been way too many injuries. I remember the period when he was fit, some years ago, playing alongside Maldini and doing great.

I don't think Bonera is worse at RB than he is CB nowadays. Obviously Bonera failed to reach his prospect (injuries surely didn't help). Hopefully Sokratis will have better luck, he is still young. So it makes sense to prefer him over Bonera, because you need to play to develop (surely along Nesta will help a lot), and can't say he's worse than Bonera at this point. Thankfully Allegri is playing Sokratis over Bonera few times now in central defense.

Probable line-ups:

Milan (4-3-1-2): Abbiati; Abate, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Zambrotta; Boateng, Pirlo, Gattuso; Robinho; Pato, Ibrahimovic.

Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Casillas; S.Ramos, Pepe, Carvalho, Marcelo; Xabi Alonso, Khedira; C.Ronaldo, Ozil, Di Maria; Higuain.

Ah, good times are here to stay! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headphone.gif) Well, at least Thiago Silva is back, hopefully at 100%.
