QUOTE Milan's Adriano Galliani: I Want Old Players
As Milan look set to return to Europe’s top flight next season, the Rossoneri's chief administrator expressed his preference for ageing stars who have been around the block...
Many have criticised Milan’s transfer policy over recent years, as they continue to look like a retirement home for some of the world’s top players. However, it looks unlikely that the average age will decrease this summer, following recent comments by Adriano Galliani.
“To return to victory in the Champions League we need an expert side that isn’t too young. Here at Milan we like champions, regardless of their age,” stated the Milan vice-president.
With legendary captain Paolo Maldini set to retire over the summer, Galliani expressed his disappointment after failing to convince the no.3 to play on for yet another season.
“Paolo won’t change his mind, unfortunately," he sighed.
"He is still playing because he is the best central defender we have, I don’t know why he wants to stop. I have repeatedly tried to convince him to change his mind, but he has stood firm.”
Milan face Juventus at the San Siro on Sunday May 10. We need a side that isn't too young? agreed. but we need a side that isn't TOO OLD either. (IMG: http://www.pic4ever.com/images/argh.gif)

The title is stupid.
I agree with Zed. We need to find a balance.

Don't see anything about drogba and adebayor on mediaset.
I do see a note saying that Abramovich is prepared to buy out Shevchenko's contract and that he'll then be free to find another club (ie, he's not wanted back at Chelsea).

QUOTE (gal_kenny @ May 9 2009, 06:50 PM) There is some kind of interview about Adebayor or Drogba on sportmediaset.it....I really don't understand what it talks about cuz i don't understand Italian!!! I'm not too sure either, but I sure do hope its something alone the lines of: 'STAYING FAR AWAY FROM MILAN' (IMG: style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ May 10 2009, 04:45 AM) I'm going to disagree and say one thing. There seems to be a huge misconception that young = quick, old = slow. There is no relation between speed and age in my opinion, at least not during a football career. Maybe stamina was the right word not speed. some players are naturally slow(/fast) and that doesn't change much when they get older, but stamina DOES. it depends on each individual but usually when a footballer reaches his 30's, he starts to decline in that aspect. they can run as fast as ever but not for a whole game but 60-70 minutes (it depends on many things). now imagine having at least 7 of them in the XI... In that case I can see us welcoming Sheva with open arms... a former legend for free? no way Galliani's going to ignore that. after all he loves champions no matter how old or ineffective they are.

Old players...young players...what a philosophy. Wish Hegel would be here to contemplate.

I know Maldini is superman but we can't expect him to play season after season especially in massive Champions League games all we want is a solid cente half and a full back and then I'd be happy
