And you believe wiki?  (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

It was actually 28 starts and 3 sub appearances.

And who cares about age or whatever? You are decided a flop or not on your price. They both came at a very similar price and ha a very similar first season, so..

Anyways, some people on here see what they want to see I suppose. Pato is amazing, Milan are the number 1 club in the World, clearly.
*

I believe acmilan.com - Alberto Gilardino (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

And Kurt, accept most of Gila's goals in his first season came when Milan were leading by two or three goals. they were not really crucial.. Pato has scored the first goal(s) against Fiorentina, Genoa, Torino, Empoli and Catania...

(Had you witnessed Ronaldo at his best, you wouldnt even draw such a comparison)

Milan's midfield was in blistering form !  In Serie A, Pirlo and Gattuso were brilliant as well as they were in the CL.
*

Ronaldo at his best? Why does that even matter, he wasn't playing for Milan at his best. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Er, no they weren't. They kept using the excuse that they had no break - because of the World Cup - as the reason why they were playing poorly.

QUOTE (Rossoneri7 @ Apr 26 2008, 05:55 PM)
Ok well, tell me ... How many goals did Gilardino score that were decisive ? How many games did it take Gilardino to score his first goal for Milan ? and how long did it take for Gilardino to score in the CL ?
*

He has scored decisive goals, people like to forget them though. He's even scored decisive goals this season. People tend to forget our two 1-0 wins in which he was the only scorer. But of course, the only goals people care about when it comes to Gila are important goals against the big teams. So unless he scores the winner against Juve, Inter, Roma or Fiorentina, no-one cares.

Scoring in the CL? Some point in his 2nd season with us, like Pato will do?

I'd like to ask you something. R7, who do you blame for this poor season?

Gosh. It's been a while since you two had a fight.

I feel like I should get out my popcorn. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/96.gif)

As for Gilardino, he's a good player but I just don't think Milan is the right fit for him. I think it'd be best for him and for Milan if he were to go to another club next year (my unrealistic hope being a trade with Fiorentina for Montolivo).

What on earth are you talking about?

Your logic doesn't make sense. So you're saying if somebody doesn't remember every goal a player has scored, who it was against and at what point in the game it was scored - they can't say whether the player is good or not? No ... My point is very clear. I asked you whether you remembered the first season and you said yes. So I assumed you actually did.

Well the highlight of the first season was how Gilardino turned out to be a complete flop.

The season after that worse and now this season, he isn't even worth mentioning.

He didn't meet the expectations of the San Siro crowd and his career at Milan has been a complete failure.

You wanna agree with that ok, you don't its also ok. Just don't say that we criticize for no reason, when the reason is so evident and so clear, but you don't wish to comprehend it.

I hear alot of people hear how Pato's half season, and Ronaldo's half season in their debut seasons were amazing. Yet Gila scored more goals than these 2 combined. And as a striker myself, I know that I'd rather score more goals than have more good performances.

But I don't think we'll ever agree on this. Just like we'll never agree on Dida, Galliani and a few other things.

Are you aware that this season Gila has scored 7 goals in 29 apps and Pato has scored 8 goals in 15 apps?

PATO -> 8 goals in 15 apps
GILA -> 7 goals in 29 apps

Problem is, there's no way we can compare our 2005-06 season with the last two seasons [in Serie A]. we were clearly a stronger team then and finished second in the league. all these bad results in the league started from 2006-07.

@kurt: Now this might make you go 'Et tu brute...' but they do have a point. So do you. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Look guys....Gilardino is not the reason our season has sucked. Our season has sucked due to a combination of:

1. 2 seasons of accumulated fatigue in aging/tiring legs
2. Fullbacks who like to think Milan is some episode of Friends where they can make guest appearances on and off.
3. A transfer policy dictated by an over emphasis on the balance books, which meant the team had no depth.
4. The lack of a true player in the hole a fantasista or a mobile striker who can play in closed spaces.

But yes...Gilardino was bought in as the hope of the decade. I'd say Liverpool's anticipation of Torres pales in comparison. Esp because he's Italian and though we love Kaka...Milan have always loved their Italian players a little more. (And admittedly, the love has been returned (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) )

Gilardino is not able to play in the system that suits the other 10 players in the first eleven the best. Namely as a target man in the box, who can pull defenders off and hold them. Granted that's not his position, but then it's really difficult to change your whole formation to suit him.

The problem with Gila is he does a bit of everything. He's good in the box, but unfortunately, he can't compare to Pippo. He can hold and dribble and shoot a bit, but he's not Sheva. Theoretically he should have been that missing link, but he isn't.

Perhaps the pressure of playing in a club, where any performance below 8 on 10 is grounds for criticism is a bit heavy for him. Let's not forget, his previous two seasons of unquestioned brilliance at Parma were when the team were battling relegation, and he was praised for standing tall among the ruins. Maybe he's that kind of player who needs to be praised all the time. And a big club doesn't do that. Or at least the press doesn't do that to a player in a big club.

Imo..Milan have done their duty, they've tried to make life easier, and tried to give him loads of playing time...but it doesn't work. Yes...it's obvious it's the system that doesn't suit Gila....but it's more sensible to change the player to suit the system than change the whole system to suit a player.

Lastly the easiest thing to do would be to put yourself in the position of a defender for any team.

Having seen Milan play over the three seasons....now if you're a defender for an opposing team, who in the squad would you rather have play against you. Gilardino or Pato?

Gilardino whom you know is going to be hanging around in the box like he's stoned, and can be taken down or Pato who is going to zip around pulling tricks left and right to confuse you, while in the back of your mind, you know there's Inzaghi somewhere around, and Kaka is lurking just outside the penalty area?

Of course I'll tell you what could change things...

The knowledge that while Gila is in the box and you can mark him down, the fact that Ronaldo is just as adept at getting in the box that unlike Kaka, he loves tight spaces. So now where do you go my lovely?

Or when you see Kaka and R10 charging at you like the old medieval knights leaving your poor holding mid for dead, and knowing that there's a bloke in there to add to the already excruciating pain in your butt.

So yes, there are scenarios where Gila could do great, but in his current form/state of mind, you could even play Darren Bent. He's just not the kind of player whom you can place your faith on to win you the match. Not like Kaka or Sheva or even Pippo. Gila you put on the field, and hope against hope only impossible chances go his way, coz he'll f@ck up the easy ones.
