Gattuso wins for Ronaldinho

Gennaro Gattuso wore the captain’s armband against Empoli and explains just how crucial that victory was for Milan - and Ronaldinho.

“It was tough. We knew that someone had to make a sacrifice for the side and this time it was me,” he said after the 3-1 win.

That result propelled the Rossoneri into fifth place, just one point shy of Palermo, although the Sicilians have played an extra game.

“We are not making calculations. We know full well how important it is for the club and for us to reach the Champions League next season. That is an imperative to bring in some star names and keep hold of the ones we have.”

The reference is most likely aimed at Ronaldinho, who has repeatedly been named as Milan’s main transfer target for this summer.

Carlo Ancelotti rested several players for this Empoli game ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final with Bayern Munich.

“It’s tiring to play three matches in one week, but the important thing was to win. Fourth place is everything for us.”

With Paolo Maldini in the stands, Gattuso wore the captain’s armband and he put in a Man of the Match performance.

“I didn’t even feel the armband, because this is the only way I know how to play. My main strength is determination – I always give everything I’ve got.”

You said that Don Silvio hadn't spent much money to which I showed you that he had spent at least €150m since 2002 which would equate to €30m a year - a lot of money in anyone's book. I also explained that the Don will help a new manager out(like in '02 with carlo), but when he doesn't back a manager he won't spend his cash(unless the fans riot like they did for Gila (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ). So what are you looking for ? an applause ?? Why because you figured out that a football club spends big when it appoints a new coach ?! Give me a break, if Milan changes coaches, Silvio will still buy whoever he sees fit and will tell the coach that it's my way or the highway. So, even if Carlo stays, there won't be a change in the clubs transfer targets .. i.e. Maldini and Costacurta will retire this season, and considering Carlo is staying, they will be replaced. And no, not by novice defenders from the primavera.

The problem is, you don't quit understand that 30M and 20M are no where close to what some other clubs pay to get players. Chelsea bought Essian for close to 40M and Shevchenko for 45M Drogba 36M, Madrid bought Zidane for close to 70M and Beckham close to 50M Diarra anyone ??... (Just to make the long list short, those clubs can outbid anyone on the market, that is why Milan needed confirmation that they will be the only club R10 would sign for)

But u know what 30M is a lot in anyones book, but that book excludes Billionaires, cuz they see Millions, how anyone sees thousands .. and noones see hundreds .. and hundreds see everyone (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Therefore, Carlo's appointment saw Carlo deal with the squad he already has (that the club brings in), Carlo requested a couple of players like Inzaghi, but the bulk of players are what the club gave him .. Didn't he want Emerson ?? The club gave him Broochi.

A new coach would ease Silvio into spending more ?? He still is gonna acquire R10 u know, whether the new coach wants him or not, or even if Carlo continues .. As for Buffon, well IF Juventus agree to sell him, that is the ONLY way he would come to us.

150M (approx) Silvio spent during Carlo's reign ? Okay, now explain to me Abramovic, Perez, Moratti, etc .. Hell Moratti hasn't won anything notable (except recently) and he spent Millions like coins as if he was playing the slot machine. The coach doesn't set the standards, well he might at Villareal or Newcatle, but not at a top team.

And even if ur right about the 17M difference to the 26M ... it wasn't even the point of the argument.

Point to take into consideration : Appointing a new coach doesn't mean more $$$ will be spent, even with the current coach. If the board likes him, they will continue to maintain the team the way they would, even if they appoint a new one. vis versa it all works that way. The club wont consider any of our views, they have a pretty professional view on how they like to deal with their team. It is one thing to dislike Carlo, but it is another to claim that Silvio will break the bank with a new coach.
