Spalletti wary of Milan

Roma boss Luciano Spalletti is showing Milan great respect ahead of their clash on Saturday – despite already defeating them twice so far this season.

The Giallorossi won the first League meeting between the pair this term and then knocked them out of the Coppa Italia.

But the tactician, whose second-placed side are keen to defend their nine-point lead of rivals Lazio in the table, is aware that both teams are ready to give battle.

“I don’t think there is the risk that we might underestimate Milan,” noted the former Udinese and Sampdoria boss on Friday.

“They will be motivated by the fact that we have defeated them a few times this year and we know this will make them even more dangerous.”

Both teams go into the game with next week’s Champions League on their minds, but Spalletti insists that neither of the outfits – who could meet in the semi-finals of the competition – will snub their Serie A commitments.

“We are both determined to do well in the championship, even if we are the only Italian clubs left in the Champions League,” continued the 4-2-3-1 man.

“We will have to play to win as this also helps to create a winning mentality. A draw must only be the consequence of a failed victory.”

Roma will host Manchester United on Wednesday in the first leg of their European tie at a sold out Olimpico, but many supporters were left without tickets despite camping out overnight.

“I’m disappointed for those who won’t be at the arena,” he noted. “But this fact proves that we have been doing well this term and must motivate us even more.

“Our followers have shown their affection towards us and they are a very important factor for the team.”
