MILANELLO - Alessandro Nesta touched on various topics during this afternoon’s press conference at Milanello.

HIS RETURN
‘I hope to return soon, maybe even by Sunday. I am working hard to get in an acceptable physical condition. As soon as the coach sees me doing well then he will put me in. I’ve been experiencing problems for a year now, since Messina before the return leg with Barcelona. Perhaps I played a lot or wasn't doing well enough when I returned. I really don’t know, but the fact is that I have had a lot of problems. Now my objective is return to the pitch, but above all else to return in top condition.’

HIS CONTRACT
‘Handing out contracts to injured players wouldn’t be a good bet for the club and their investment. I want to play and from the club’s side they want to see what kind of condition I am in. I am totally confident. I have already made it clear to Milan that I want to return and finish my career here. I don’t know how many years I’ll be able to play for, but I want to play here for as long as I can. When I am doing well, then we will sit and talk about a contract. Rome is my home, but there are no premises for my return. Milan have given me a lot and I want to end my career here. If I leave it mean I am not doing well, but I am confident that this won’t be the case. I have had six operations. I understand the situation but I will overcome even this. After every operation I have gotten back to where I should be, both mentally and physically. I must return to playing because I really miss football. I miss the splendid nights at the San Siro.’

THE TEAM
‘Perhaps we had a bit more polish in other years, but this year started like it did. We rushed back from vacation and underwent an inadequate preparation that has followed us up until today. However, this is certainly not the fault of the coaches because they have did everything they could. Now, I must regain my physical condition. I have a strong desire to play. I want to make my contribution to the team. The defence are doing really well. I saw every game and Bonera is having a great season.’

VARIOUS TOPICS
‘I spoke with Azzurri national coach Roberto Donadoni before going to Miami. I think that I can continue to play for the Italy national team, but we’ll see how things go at a physical level. We must evaluate things day by day. As for Sunday’s game, if the coach thinks that I can give a hand then he will put me on the bench. I am trying to become a bit quicker because I couldn't run any sprints in Miami. Inter are the team of the moment, but Juventus aren’t here this season. We’ll see what happens next year when we all start from the same place. When we are in good form, the exact same Milan of today can hold its own against anyone.’
