I'll be frank now: I think Italy hasen't had such a bad generation of players for a long time, and the Serie A coaches nowdays are even worse. Allegri may have won that award...but I don't think any of the current Serie A coaches has it in him tu pull off some important thing for his club. 10-15 years ago we had Trapattoni, Lippi, Ancelotti, Eriksson and Capello plus coaches like Scala, Zaccheroni or Terim all. Nowdays, it's who?

Two of the last three Italian NT coaches were appointed without ever winning any important trophy, not the UEFA Cup, not the domestic league, cup or supercup, nothing. That I think means much.

The problem is with how coaches now adays act.


Ancelotti and co. grew up in a generation where planning everything to the last dot was law. Coaches built practices like they built houses. Everything had a blue print and if things went wrong; your blue print wasn't developed carefully enough or you didn't account for things like injuries etc in your plans.


Now adays coaches act more and more on instinct and i'm no different. You'll see it soon in the trend of new coaches coming up. Instead of having the blue prints the majority would rather use instinct to guide a squad foreward during the season.


Instead of taking notes after a game and analyziing where your game needs to change; you'll start seeing more emortional responses like "they feel this and this need to change"


Its a problem and UEFA is doing a piss poor job of addressing it. The reason being is because the liscences, which were so hard to achieve before have become much easier.


Having a UEFA PRO 10-15 years ago meant you were something phenomenal. Now its a requirement to coach at the top leagues so alot of people have it.


UEFA A has become so easy to get its almost attend the course and pass. On average 90% of those who attend the course pass.



So you see how problems arise when you don't have a good enough filter system to filter the bad from the good.


Furthermore, the people who run UEFA are too stubborn to change the way they educate coaches so most of them don't even use what they learn.


1) Coaches are not supposed to use stop watch( go around neck) or whistles during any session. How many top level coaches do you see have that?

2) Coaches are supposed watch opponents, take notes during games and let the squad play. How many do you see out there with a notebook; furthemore how many do you see actually observe the game and analyze it? Most stand there shouting.




etc etc; i can sit here and make points all day till jack runs out of rum.

So instead what UEFA should be doing is finding ways of allowing the new trends of coaching into their educational system and adapting it. But no we have a bunch of stuck up, arrogant ex-managers who work at the FA's and think they have the ideal football and people should learn from them.



But the bottom line of why we have poor coaches is because the system is flawed. I am taking these courses and I will tell you already that half the sh*t i'm learning I will not use once. Why? Because its the year 2010 people work/think/communicate differently.

What worked 20/10/5 years ago may no longer work today.



PS: There is a reason why mourinho is successful; his methods are unique. He is what I would call the first successful manager who doesn't run his own practice sessions. That says something about him.
