Milan’s old glories beat Brescia’s veterans 7-2 in a charity match organised for Stefano Borgonovo’s fight against Lou Gherig’s Disease.
This is the second friendly event in the space of a week, as Sampdoria and Genoa faced off at Marassi in another high-profile encounter.
Around 9,000 fans attended the Stadio Rigamonti to see players such as Leonardo, Daniele Massaro and Paolo Di Canio get back on to the field.
Milan won 7-2 thanks to Maurizio Ganz getting four goals, Massaro a brace and Di Canio one.
Brescia were on target with old favourites Dario Hubner and Chiodini.
Roberto Baggio, who had played for both Milan and Brescia in his career, was expected to take part but had to pull out.
Rossoneri Coach Carlo Ancelotti – a good friend and ex-teammate of Borgonovo’s – sat on the sidelines with him throughout.
Borgonovo is a 45-year-old former Milan, Fiorentina and Brescia star who has been struck down with Lou Gherig’s Disease, a degenerative motor neurone condition.
It is a disease that tends to affect former athletes and has already taken the life of ex-Genoa legend Gianluca Signorini.
Other players who took part in the charity match at the Rigamonti included Franco Baresi, Mauro Tassotti, Alessandro Costacurta, Roberto Donadoni, Demetrio Albertini, Ruud Gullit, Marcel Desailly, Luigi Di Biagio and Evaristo Beccalossi.
