CONI verdicts expected

Friday 27 October, 2006 - FI - channel4.com

The CONI Court of Arbitration is expected to hand out its verdicts on Friday, as Juventus, Lazio, Fiorentina and Milan hope for a reduction to their penalties.

The four clubs were all punished by the Federal Court sporting tribunal on July 25 for their part in the summer Calciopoli scandal and decided to present their appeal to the CONI Arbitration Court, the highest grade of justice in Italian sports.

The clubs agreed to keep the dispute within the realm of sporting justice after receiving “signals of willingness” from sports officials to conclude the situation fairly.

The final decision should be revealed in the evening after the stock market closes, although a CONI spokesman confirmed to Reuters that there is no official information of when the verdicts will be handed out, meaning everything might be postponed to Monday.

Juventus were stripped of their last two Serie A titles, demoted to Serie B and had a 30-point penalty reduced to 17 after a first appeal. Fiorentina, Lazio and Milan escaped relegation to the lower League but were docked points in Serie A; 19 for Fiorentina, 11 for Lazio and eight for Milan.

While CONI insists nothing has been decided in advance, pundits have predicted that the Bianconeri and the Viola’s handicap could be softened by seven points, whereas Lazio could see their penalty reduced to -6.

Also, it seems unlikely that Milan will be granted more than a two or three-point discount. Reggina were also punished and started the campaign on -15, but the minnows’ case will be examined in November.

So... when this b/s is out? Should be in hours...

... or Monday?

Wouldn't it be ironic if we were given back four points and then we beat merda tomorrow... (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Considering our luck lately, I don't think that's very likely.

But it would be really funny if it happened. Inter would start sh!tting bricks with worry (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

That would be great but I don't even think he will play.

But if he really scored in this one, then that would be 2 wins for him, 1. his confidence would shoot right back up and secondly he would prove all the doubters wrong.

But I really don't care who scores, Dida could score for all I care, as long as we win this one. Because I know I have been more optimistic then most about this season, but if we lose this one, then we could kiss the scudetto goodbye

And 8 for Juventus.

Let's go on another trial. Now it's what? TAR? (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

yeah forgot. here an article:
CONI cuts Calciopoli penalties Friday 27 October, 2006

Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina have had their Calciopoli penalties reduced, but Milan remain with an eight-point handicap.

The Biancocelesti and Bianconeri had the biggest discount, as both have had eight points handed back to them after tonight’s verdict from the CONI Arbitration.

Fiorentina were hoping for a substantial discount on their original 19-point penalty, but it has merely been cut to –15.

Milan’s appeal failed, as their eight-point handicap will stand for the 2006-07 campaign.

This means that the current Serie A table now has Lazio level with Milan on seven points and Fiorentina on 0.

In Serie B, Juventus leapfrog up to 10 points and 11th place.

The clubs lodged their appeals in front of the commission on October 11 and 12, but a decision was only formally announced this evening.

The original Calciopoli trial had inflicted more severe handicaps on the sides, as Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio were demoted to Serie B with penalties of 30, 12 and seven points respectively. Milan stayed in the top flight with a 15-point penalty.

These verdicts were cut on appeal so that only Juve remained in the Second Division with a 17-point penalty. Fiorentina and Lazio returned to Serie A, starting from –19 and –11, while Milan went back into the Champions League through the preliminary round and began the campaign from –8 points.

This could well be the final act in the Calciopoli trial that has dragged on since the summer, amid wiretapping scandals, match-fixing allegations and claims of pressure put on referees to favour certain sides.

Yet there may be more on the horizon, as clubs still unhappy with their lot could in theory appeal to the TAR tribunal. As it is outside the jurisdiction of the sporting courts, this civil action would infuriate the Federation and might earn new penalties for the sides involved.

Trouble is, is that we will end up with a heavier punishment if we do that!

We'll just have to realise that there are far more dark and sinister forces controlling Serie A, and those forces are very close to home (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I still believe we can make it. And I think our board does too, but even if they didn't they would never admit the opposite by appealing again cause we all know we're going to get punished even harder !! Plus we also gotta qualify for the CL ...

Wheren't Lazio the most involved in all this second to Juve??

I don't care what they do anymore, if they want to redicule Italian football even more then it has already been during the summer then they should go ehead. These are just pethetic, and it's not just because of us not being reduced any of our points but the leniancy being given to the other clubs, especially Lazio and Juve. No, I dont think we should go to TAR. Plus i am sure that Milan wont go, as they do not plan to do anything this season. So lets just sit and wait for the games and points to come and pass by for 2006/2007. We will see what happens for 2007/2008.

I think it is better this way that they didn't reduce our punishment !

We are Milan !! We will make it back !!

We are a #1 team, we don't need courts or paper scudettos to attain a rich history of success !!!

What good is it to get the reduction, then get bashed at by others ?! NO .. I say we stay the way we are and if we make it 3rd .. At least we made it from -8 to get to 3rd place.

BTW ... MILAN WILL BE ONE OF THE TOP THREE TEAMS IN ITALY AT THE END OF THE SEASON !

good comments
they probably want inter to win the title
well they will go no where they will probably
crash out of the CL early and it is still early
in the season just look how we caught Juve
last season, i think we can still come 1st or 2nd
