We're going to have one week of rest so no excuses at all for this one... I think we will taste victory again... 1-2 Kaka, Janku.

Hmm...I agree with bigmac's astute analysis except all those 8 goals go in against us. Self goals u see.....since we're such a lousy team who didn't deserve to play in the CL last season at all. And Gila was obviously bribed by Juve to act as a handicap to us. *Let's see if I can take this reverse jinx to a whole new level from last season. Forgive me Nova...for I know not what I do (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) *

Sure. This one we'll win. 2-1 for us would be my prediction. And let's put Gilardino up front from the first minute,..

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Sep 23 2007, 11:56 PM) Which I think shows Gila has been made a bit of a scape goat this season. Pippo hasn't scored a league goal for us yet, and only had 2 in some 20 games last year. He's even more unproductive than Gila in the league. And still he's above Gila on the picking order and that's tell you something about Gila (And again Pippo is 34 and Gila should be in his prime). The last thing you can say about Gila that he's not getting enough playing time. He played way more than Pippo in the league not only this season, but last season as well. (and please don't make me to compre between them again link). Who would your pick to score between them if you life depends on it? You'll pick Gila only if you are suicidal (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Sep 24 2007, 12:16 AM) If you say so, no point in getting into it, the fact are that Gila's Milan record is better than Pippo's, and that's that. Strikers usually hit their prime in their very late 20s anyways. Pippo in Milan 84 goals in 193 games Pippo's first two seasons in Milan 46 goals in 77 games Gila so far in Milan 35 goals in 96 gamesNow, please explain how 35 goals in 96 games is better than 46 goals in 77 games? (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) And even if they were better, it's only stats and for the numerous time, don't tell the whole story in this case. You can't base things only on stats. No, usually in the mid 20s.

Last year's Palermo-Milan fixture was a 0-0 draw. (Kaka missed a penalty).
Let's hope we can do better this year. It'll be a challenging match - Palermo has a good attack.

People, for obvious reason, love to forget the european stats. C'mon Kurt. On the one hand you have 25 y,o striker with mentall problems who never scores in big games, is zero in europe and seems lost on the field. On the other hand you have 34 y.o striker who's best years are behind him but still scores in big games and always determined. The sad thing that even now, at 34, Pippo is picked before Gila. If they were in the same age there wouldn't be a question at all. And even statistically Pippo is a lot better. You have to let you eyes to judge.

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Sep 24 2007, 02:23 AM) If you're going on ability, then it has to be Gila. I believe it was Yohan Cruyff that said Pippo is an awful player, he's just always in the right place, so you can't talk about ability. Gila just needs games! By the way, be happy you've got Gila and not someone like Tevez, he's only scored 1 goal in 8 fixed games! Abillity to score goals and not to let the pressure get to you!! Do you watch Milan in Serie A ? He got/get more than enough. In other big team he'd have been sold long time ago. Tevez is a forward, SS and not box striker. And I bet, still, would score more than Gila.

QUOTE (kurtsimonw @ Sep 24 2007, 02:42 AM) I know Gila's had his chances, but you can't just get rid of him after a bad year. Sheva had one hell of a bad year, but we kept him! P.S. Gila hasn't had a bad year yet in my view. 2 full seasons, 2 seasons where his league goals has reached double figures. This has to stop anyways, we both know we aren't going to change each others mind on this, it's the way we are. (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Both Gila's years has been bad, cuz it's not only goals!! Why do you think people critisize him, fans booing him and we have been discussing it since he came. Is it by accident 90% of people here think that he's a flop? If he's so good why Carlo don't pick him for important games or he didn't checked his stats? I think, because you don't see most of the Serie A games, you can understand the level of frustration Gila causes to the fans. Sold him? He can stay as a sub because he's sure not milane first 11 quality. But because he wants firs team footbal he will be sold in the summer IMO. Sheva had one bad year after 3 good years and before another good 3.

(IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) It's not about changing his mind or changing ur mind ... Misha is used to strikers who deliver for Milan, as I am, as several others. Sure u can be sentimental and lean back on stats that say he scored 17gls in his first season for us. But what is 17 gls a season for a team like Milan ?! We might as well should have kept JDT or Comandini for that average. They both did better than Gilardino, till the day they left the club. But u see here we are down classing Gila to strikers like JDT and Comandini, when he was bought for the sole purpose of being a first team player. It really is a shame that he hasn't lived up to the hype/expectations, that is all .. Ohh well, it happened before Gigi Lentini anyone (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Well, he does have 30 goals in 56 starts (Including this season) I just don't see it as that bad.
Admittedly I don't see every Serie A game, but I still see highlights of them!
And to be honest, he's the highest scoring player for Milan over the last two years, so, you can't really complain when nobody else in the team is doing better. Why doesn't Carlo pick him if he isn't good enough? Well, like you said, he's played more games in the league than Pippo this season, so obviously Carlo also thinks he's better, right? If he was so bad, they'd have sold him by now.
It's always going to be the same though. We all defend/critisize certain players. To me, defending Dida is mind blowing, he isn't good enough for most teams on Serie A in my view, but obviously some people rate him and have their reasons.

Again u can be sentimental and lean on stats, no one is saying otherwise ... But do stats really tell u the whole story ?!
In the last two yrs ?! To tell you the truth, everyday that passes by I dislike him even more .. Well he is supposed to score, he had the weight of the team on his shoulders to deliver the goods for us. But u see, after players like MVB, Oliver Bierhoff, JPP, Savićević, etc these are players who can carry the weight of the team ...
U have to watch a game to actually know what we are talking about Kurt ... Cuz stats are good, but they don't actually show you the BIG picture. I mean, if Gila was that good, how come Inzaghi played 85mins of the final in Athena ?! How come a 34 yr old Inzaghi is being cheered upon when a 25 yr old Gila is being booed at ?! Well, the people that go to the games know better IMO and since we have tv, we can all see what the problem is. Sorry Kurt, but he really isn't Milan quality ..

About Dida .. it's ur call ... I don't think it is appropriate to mix the two up. It isn't about bashing one player then you can bash the next (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) It really isn't ... When Dida makes a mistake we concede a goal, when Gila makes a mistake he doesn't score ... Do u agree with this for a fair analogy ?! If you do, then I guess over the past 5 years Dida has helped Milan win several trophies. While Gila in his 2 yrs here, he hasn't helped the team win anything really, he is just here to add up the numbers. Sure Dida isn't the same Dida, sure he has been making these silly mistakes, but when the going gets tough and the crucial games come in to play ... Dida never fails Milan, that is why to me he is one of Milan's stars .. p.s. The discussion wasn't about Dida, but I hope u get what I mean by this ...

So now I'm being accused of not watching games, I've missed 1 this season, and seen extended highlights of it, so I do know what I'm seeing. (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) It's the same with you and Dida though, he's already cost us goals thus far, he puts so much pressure on the outfield players to produce it's bordering on unfair. And people are also on his back, but you seem to defend him through all these mistakes. Gila, in my opinion, was bought as a partenr for Sheva, a number 2 striker. Sheva left and we haven't really attempted to replace him (Oli? Please.) so now Gila is a number 2 guy playing as a top forward, that's not what he was bought for! P.S. The reason I use stats is because they are fact. An arguement will NEVER be settled on how you think they play, because that is an opinion, and opinions will sometimes not agree. Anyways, I give up on this, opinions are opinions. This will never be settled.

No I am not accusing u, u just said that u don't get to watch the games, so I assumed (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) And highlights, well I don't think highlights show you what a full 90mins could show u. Highlights show u the best of chances that Gila had, but in the 90mins you would see 20 chances missed by Gila and 1 chance almost on target. USE stats, I am not saying otherwise ... What I am saying is that Gila isn't Milan quality. There is nothing wrong with that IMO, so Milan made a mistake on him, better luck next time. Gila was bought as a 2striker (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Gila played as a lone striker at Parma .. That is how he thrived at Parma. At Milan, even with the help of Kaka' (which IMO any striker would thrive under) he just didn't meet expectations. Sure he scored this much and that much, but bottom line is he didn't reach expectations. QUOTE Sure Dida isn't the same Dida, sure he has been making these silly mistakes, but when the going gets tough and the crucial games come in to play ... Dida never fails Milan I did say he wasn't the same, but like the rest of the Milan squad ... He does show up when the going gets tough (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/king.gif)

I love how this post: QUOTE (mishie @ Sep 23 2007, 04:47 PM) perhaps chaps this discussion should be in the Gila thread, and we can get back to the Palermo game..cheers (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) And this post: QUOTE (Tennie @ Sep 23 2007, 07:13 PM) Guys? This is the Palermo match thread, not the 'does gila have value' thread. Can we please go out for a drink and talk about the game? My fish doll will buy the first round. (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) were completely ignored. If you want to discuss Gila, do it in its appropriate place. Not in this thread. Back on topic, I have a feeling Ancelotti is gonna want to play Gila and Pippo together, which I think is even worst than playing with three defensive mids. Gourcuff+Seedorf+Kaka must be at least considered by Ancelotti. Why wouldn't he try it? It's not like we could do worse.

I just hope the defense is on their A game. The Miccoli-Amauri partnership can be scarily good if they combine well.

QUOTE C4 preview
Serie A Week 5 - 26/9/07 (19.30 UK) Stadio Barbera Milan will want to get their Scudetto bid back on track as they face Palermo at the traditionally hostile Stadio Renzo Barbera in Week 5. On Saturday the Rossoneri were stopped in their own home by Parma and the Sicilians will be hoping to cause them even more problems.
The European champions have always struggled to run out of the Barbera with all three points and have won only one of their last three games played in Sicily. It ended 0-0 last term.
Milan have had a poor start to the season after collecting only six points in four games. On the other hand, Palermo are in good shape, but need to raise their level even further if they want to live up to their European ambition.
On Wednesday night, Carlo Ancelotti may decide to line up his best XI after resting several key men against Parma. Former Crociati defender Daniele Bonera will be replaced by Kakha Kaladze. Cristian Brocchi will return to the bench, with Gennaro Gattuso back in the midfield.
Ancelotti will also have to decide whether to play Alberto Gilardino or Filippo Inzaghi up front as Ronaldo is still out injured. Both strikers are not at their best. Gila hasn’t yet found the net this season, while Inzaghi has been impressing only in the Champions League.
Palermo boss Stefano Colantuono is preparing his men for one of the most important clashes of the season. The former Atalanta Coach was satisfied with Sunday’s victory over Cagliari, although Palermo didn’t impress.
Sant’Elia match winner Cristian Zaccardo should be used on the left as Marco Pisano and Ciro Capuano are injured. Mark Bresciano looks set to take the right-wing role, while Fabio Caserta should be preferred to Bosko Jankovic on the opposite flank. The attacking duo will be formed by Fabrizio Miccoli and Amauri, with Edison Cavani eagerly awaiting his moment on the bench.
Keep an eye on: Fabrizio Miccoli (Palermo) – The Rossoneri are one of Miccoli’s favourite rivals as he regularly finds the net against them. This will be another occasion to throw water over the Devil…
Last season: Palermo 0-0 Milan
Form guide: Palermo (- L W D W) Milan (- W D D D) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Palermo (probable): Fontana; Diana, Rinaudo, Barzagli, Zaccardo; Bresciano, Migliaccio, Simplicio, Caserta; Amauri, Miccoli
Milan (probable): Dida; Oddo, Nesta, Kaladze, Jankulovski; Gattuso, Pirlo, Ambrosini; Kaka, Seedorf; F Inzaghi

QUOTE Fontana Praises Prestigious Milan
Palermo goalkeeper Alberto Fontana has offered a glowing tribute of Palermo’s next opponents Milan and disagrees with those who believe that Milan only concentrate on the Champions League. The European champions travel to Sicily on Wednesday evening having drawn three consecutive games in Serie A. Carlo Ancelotti has a history of resting and rotating first-team players before European ties and this has led to accusations that the Rossoneri are not interested in trying to win the Scudetto.
Before Milan’s recent 2-1 Champions League victory over Benfica, Ancelotti rested Kaka, Andrea Pirlo, Massimo Oddo and Filippo Inzaghi in the preceding league match against Siena. However Fontana does not go along with this theory.
"I disagree that they are not interested in the league,†said Fontana. “We will be playing against a strong and prestigious team. They will come to the Stadio Barbera to win, and they more than have the potential to do so.â€
The 40-year-old Fontana is now in his 20th year as a professional. The shot-stopper began his career at hometown club Cesena in 1987 and made over 100 appearances before moving on to the likes of Bari, Atalanta, Napoli, Inter and Chievo. In 2006 he moved to the Stadio Renzo Barbera. Words from an ex-interista,..

QUOTE Carletto orders three points Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti has issued a rallying cry to his faltering Rossoneri side ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Palermo. “Time to get back to winning.â€
The European champions shone in the first game of their Champions League defence against Benfica, but have looked far less convincing in the League.
While Week 2’s draw with Fiorentina was seen as acceptable, sharing the points with Siena and Parma has caused murmerings of discontent at the San Siro.
A Wednedsay evening clash at Palermo’s Stadio Renzo Barbera certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted, but Ancelotti thinks that will play in his side’s favour.
“This is a great chance to start winning again,†he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “It will be a tough game, but we want to climb the table.
“There are no fatigue problems, we are raring to get started. You will see a very different Milan side as the players are aware of where they need to make improvements.
With Ronaldo injured and Alberto Giardino struggling for form and fitness, the goal scoring burden may fall to Pippo Inzaghi.
“I don’t care who scores the goals whether it’s strikers or defenders as long as we find the net. In my opinion, our problems aren’t up front. We need to control the game better and create more chances.
“Alberto should relax because the goals will come whereas Inzaghi starts prolifically and then eases off.
"Gila deserves our faith as he was our top scorer last season.â€
Inzaghi is set to start as a lone striker against Palermo with Gilardino starting on the bench.

Oh dear? [Milan keeper Dida could skip the game with Palermo. He's hurt his shoulder - not the one already operated on - and the Milan medical staff has been busy. If Dida doesn't play, Kalac will be in goal for Milan.] In preallarme, quindi, Zeljco Kalac. link

QUOTE (pKillerMax @ Sep 25 2007, 03:37 PM) I'd go with: -----------------Dida------------------------- --Oddo----Nesta--Bonera----Jankulovski-- -----------------Pirlo-------------------------- -----Gattuso------------Gourcuff------------ ----------------Seedorf----------------------- ------------------------Kaka------------------ ---------------Pippo--------------------------- There could be some great link up between Seedorf, Gourcuff and Kaka. But I wouldn't mind going with Carletto's formation since this is a pretty difficult away game and Ambro can prove decisive. I'd go with this one too, but I'm sure Carlo will play Ambro isntead of Yoann

Can't belive he didn't give the chance for yoann to play.
I hope he atleast takes either Kaka or Seedorf off BEFORE the 80 minute mark and replaces either one of them with Yoann

Well we all seem to be very positive...somebody pm me tomorrow if I ought to look at the match thread or not. Need to turn in early...and I don't waste my time at work looking through pages of finger pointing. dst trying giving your armchair-coach contest one more go...maybe it'll work (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

QUOTE (BMWTaylor @ Sep 27 2007, 02:05 AM) QUOTE (J. Sparrow) So what are the odds we'll be too 'tired' after the previous match and don't win again? Don't be surprised if Bresciano wipes the floor with us tonight. The Australian Threat! They'll win for my b/day.. touch wood. Hopefully yohan gets at least half an hour of game time, unbelievable how he isn't getting an opportunity.
