Nesta charmed in Athens

Friday 11 May, 2007 ::: channel4.com

Alessandro Nesta has had good fortune in Athens and hopes that lucky charm continues when Milan face Liverpool on May 23.

“These are the nights when history is made, so we must win,” he said of the Champions League Final.

“I have already been to Athens to play with Lazio. On that day, we got a victory…”

The former Biancocelesti defender beat Panionios Athens 4-0 on their way to the 1998-99 Cup Winners’ Cup.

Most famously, the Olympic Stadium – the same where they’ll take on Liverpool later this month – was the stage for Milan’s 4-0 demolition of favourites Barcelona in the Champions League Final.

With Paolo Maldini still a doubt to play on May 23, the return of Nesta after a long injury lay-off has been crucial.

“I came back at the right moment, I couldn’t have timed it better,” he told ‘Milan Channel.’

“The team was hitting its stride and so did I, that’s where the good results came from. The three-month rest did me a lot of good – as indeed it would have for anyone.”

There is speculation over Nesta’s future at the San Siro, but he insisted there was nothing to worry about.

“Yesterday I received a phone call from Adriano Galliani. Something is in motion now,” he smiled.

It has been reported that Milan’s stars will receive £136,000 each as a bonus if they win the Champions League this season.

Berlusconi promised 200.000 euros for each player if we win. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

I think it should all come out of Dida's wages too, for making the rest of the team have to work so much harder to cover for his mitakes. (IMG:http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I'd take the scarf. Maybe to 1 day look at him and say "Oh... that's the 2007 scarf - Athens Edition... where we won the 7th".

The one thing that got Liverpool going at half time in Istanbul was hearing their fans sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' during the break.

It scares me that they could come back again.

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks about English supporters, no other countries fans come close to them, they comfortably the best in the world.

Fact is, English fans do anything to get tickets, others don't. That's why Liverpool fans outnumbered Milan fans without question in Istanbul, we need them silenced early and do what Milan do best, keep the ball, and keep the game flowing at our tempo. Eventually Liverpool fans will start to lose hope, if things are going our away.

WE NEED TO SHUT THEM THE HELL UP!

At IStanbul, Milan did silence them all through the first half, and the 3nd half too.

But u got a point, english fans are more into the game than anyother fans ...

English fans can also be the most fickle, too.

Turn the supporters on them and the players will drop their heads, we just need to to shu up at half time. ¬_¬

Cmon kurt... if it was Chelsea for example, we'd outnumber them in Athens for sure.

Problem is that Liverpool is probably the most supported team in UK and one of the top worldwide.

Liverpool are a different case, yes. But the majority of English teams supporters would outnumber mainland European supporters.

There are a few cases such as Chelsea, Spurs and Middlesboro who have awful support and couldn't fill a box if they had to.

What about the London teams.

I know Arsenal is the #1 in the city (fanbase). But what about West Ham, Spurs, Chelsea, Fulham... what's the #2, #3... any stat/table?

I'd like to know.
