Italian teams have a good record against German teams in recent history.
Milan 5-2 on aggregate over Bayern last season. Italy 4-1 Germany in pre-World Cup friendly last year. Italy 2-0 Germany in World Cup semi final.
Not sure if that is the result of better technique, tactics or the incredibly strong pressing game that Italian teams usually employ. It's probably a comination of the three. Sure, Bayern beat Inter in CL this season but Inter barely have any Italian players so that hardy counts!
These CL knockout ties are always so tight, and away goals very often prove to be decisive. So I would be happy with a 1-0 win. 2-1 would also be a good result but we'd still have a lot of work to do in the second leg due to the away goal. 0-0 is a neutral result and I think would make the second leg a 50-50 proposition.
I think Carlo will go for the 1-0, so wouldn't be surprised if he starts with only one man up front (Inzaghi or Gila) with Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Ambrosini and Kaka in midfield. He can then take off one of the mids to put another striker on if we are in control of the play. In saying that, Bayern will be without Van Bommel and Kahn so part of me would really like to see us try to kill off the tie in the first leg by being very aggressive. But Carlo has proved to be quite a cautious tactician and I think the risk of conceding an away goal will be in the back of his mind.
I can't wait to watch the match. It's been a tough season but we're still alive in Europe and hopefully we can advance to the semis and beyond. Good luck guys!

Very true (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I do think Milan has a chance of advancing and going to Athens is the priority. But I don't think Carlo will play with one striker, I think two from the start; the game against Inter, in the first half of the season is an example to take into consideration. Though the team is getting better with one up front, we'll see how it goes. But I'm rooting for a 4-3-1-2 (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/king.gif)

I would like to see this team against Bayern even though I'm pretty sure it will be the 4-4-1-1 formation
Oddo--Bonera--Nesta--Janku -------------Pirlo--------------- -----Rino----------Seedorf---- ------------Kaka--------------- --------Pippo---Gila-----------
But if we do go for the 4-4-1-1 then I would like to see something like this
Oddo--Bonera--Nesta--Janku Seedorf---Rino--Pirlo--Sergio -------------------Kaka--------- -------Pippo/Oli/Gila-----------

QUOTE (Rossoneri7 @ Apr 1 2007, 03:38 PM) Depending on Pippo's fitness, Carlo will play both formations on Tuesday; the question is which will he start with. I would say the 4-3-1-2 and end it with the 4-4-1-1. Cuz we will be at the San Siro, will have our full squad ready. While Bayern have Kahn and Van Bommel out. A friend (Bayern fan) told me yesterday, that Bayern's midfield is cr@p without Van Bommel and he is happy with Hargreaves playing, if he is content about Hargreaves, then Milan has nothing to worry about (IMG: http://cyrus.medialayer.net/~m1ke/milanfan.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/devil.gif) But it is them who have to worry That's good to hear. Still don't understand what all the hype about Hargreaves is. Not a very good play, decent, but not so good
